Well, the CDC just announced that fully vaccinated people no longer have to wear masks or maintain social distancing indoors or outdoors, so there does not seem to be ANY logical reason W&D can’t occur 😀

Perfect - now they just need to verify vaccinations!

That is assumingcompanies won't continue to enforce distancing and masking regardless of the CDC's stance. We have already announced all employees and customers will remain masked until Labor Day weekend and we will re-evaluate after that. We do enforce masking as well, no mask no service.

They would also need to establish a very strong participation waiver and possibly on-site rapid testing for the unvaccinated. There’s a lot of focus on the vaccine-hesitant, but we have to keep in mind that there are legitimate medical reasons why an individual should not or could not be vaccinated. A pathway needs to be kept open to allow those individuals to participate.

I don't think disney wants to go there. PTRR here is doing that (vaccinations or negative tests) and there are a lot of people blasting them for doing it (mainly people who don't read "or negative test").

I don't think disney wants to walk into that minefield.

...oh yes --- I don't think they will (I just wish they would, lol)

Interestingly, the race I’m running this weekend had to agree to require proof of vaccination or a recent negative test result for all out of state runners in order to obtain the necessary permits from the local government. I’m not sure how the in-state/out of state dynamic was settled on or why, but that’s where they landed.

Except that that's not allowed in Florida. Sorry to be Debbie Downer here lol!

Not allowed in Florida “yet”. I think they might change their tune if some of these cruise lines look like they’re going to follow through on their threats to leave the state if they can’t verify/require vaccination.

I’m wondering if rD is waiting on Biden to drop the national emergency concerning the pandemic before they resume in person races?

It seems to me like that would eliminate the need to require proof of vaccination and it would be the responsibility of the runner to protect themselves, much like getting a flu shot before running MW which is in the middle of flu season.

I think rD has to wait on disney. Until disney feels comfortable having big crowds in the park I don't think they'll let rD have big crowds for an in person race.

Did everyone see the news on the earnings call today? Looks like capacity is going to increase quickly, and the suggestion was pretty strong that the mask requirement is going to be modified/lifted (at least outdoors). I took all the news today to be a good sign for future runDisney races.

Definitely good news but IMO the things we need to watch for is return of M&G, Fireworks, and parades. If disney doesn't want people standing around watching a parade they are not going to want people to be standing around watching runners run through HS and Epcot (as one consideration).

Things are appear t moving a lot quicker then I expected which is very good but in terms of rundisney being able to return I'm watching for the things I listed above.

Not RD related A coworker and I were chatting on the subject of would WDW test meet and greets by making them ticketed (not an up charge more like FP style reservation only) like the cruse ships did for Anna & Elsa meetings and I believe some of the Asian parks were doing post covid

And everyone keeps forgetting about the airlines. Does Florida really want to lose international air traffic as well as the cruise industry?

I just got an email from a travel agent I registered with to get updates, saying Get ready for a runDisney announcement! I don't know if they know anything other than all of us but I'm super-stoked!

I hope the travel agent is going beyond speculation here, because I'm going to be cranky if we still don't hear anything in the next few weeks! I'm already spending far too much time checking various Disney news sites online for word on when RD returns! :surfweb:

That being said, I'm surprised at how fast the CDC's new "no more masks for the vaccinated" recommendation has been picked up. Universal just updated their policy, Hershey Park dropped their mask requirement entirely the same day, major retailers like Wal-Mart and Costco announced they're letting the vaccinated enter without masks, etc. People are definitely eager to return to normal.

i contactes mine and her contacts are negative. rumor is that resorts say they need at least a 12 month lead time for any large events... which seems really stupid to me. why would resorts need to really do. she feels the announcement will be virtual again... i hope she is wrong. she also mentioned her team is still furloughed... not sure if she meant her rundisney contacts. im praying for races..please God
