Everything is so expensive! (just a vent)

Gas prices are ridiculous. Have you seen the price of meat? Chicken? Groceries in general.

My final straw came this evening when we went to buy drywall and flooring for our basement renovation. Nope. Not happening. It is triple our budget🤬

So sad. And mad.
What makes me crazy are housing prices. I worry about affording a home of my own in the future.

It seems to be two fold right now. Companies making up losses from the pandemic, combined with wages that are stagnant and not rising at the same rate as inflation.

Unfortunately, gas prices always go up in the summer. Add to it more people traveling by car this summer due to the pandemic and it's a recipe for high demand & high costs. And while high, it's still not the highest it's been here before.

:guilty:

I feel so badly for our young people that don't own yet. It seems impossible right now.

But looking at the numbers, at least here, it isn't impossible. Houses sell with multiple offers above asking price within hours. One-third of all home sales here are CASH. The typical buyer is 30 years old.

My son and DIL put their house on the market at Noon Thursday. They had people make appointments to tour the house within 2 hours of listing, they had 50 people tour their house between Thursday and this Tuesday. They got 8 offers, all above asking price. The house is an entry level 1,050 square foot 3 bedroom 1 bath house built in 1952 on a major busy loud street.

I was shocked on my first trip to a brewery since March 2019. The cost of a pint went from $5 to $7 in 14 months. That is a 40% increase.

Tell me about it. Rental prices and houses for sale are super expensive right now. There’s waiting lists, multi-bids, and it’s like 2005/2006 all over again.
My daughter and her boyfriend just rented a house-they were “outbid” on the first three they wanted. This last one they were Asking 3850 and they ended up having to go up to 4200 a month to seal the deal!

The real estate market is crazy here. Over the last few months, over 1500 homes have sold at 100k over asking.

I've seen pretty darn good prices here.
Full price has gone up but sale prices haven't.
Chicken breast quarters 99c a pound
Chicken breast boneless skinless 1.49 a pound
Ribeye steak 7.99 a pound.
Pork. Not on sale this week. But that's why God invented freezers. I bet it will be on sale next week and probably chicken legs and thighs. I think next week is also T Bone week for 7.99.

Thankfully I'm not in the market for housing or building materials right now.
Gas always goes up in the summer, and it doesn't seem any higher here than it usually is. I'm expecting the middle of summer to get bad though, since more people are driving around this year. Hopefully next summer is more normal.
Groceries, seem to be pretty much normal here. I haven't noticed much for lingering supply issues (I can find cans of diet soda again!!!) and prices don't seem too out of whack. I just bought chicken yesterday for the same price (per lb) I have been paying for the last couple years.

I have a friend who is building a home right now and their cost have totally gone up unexpectedly. They just sold their old home and to save money they are living in a camper now instead if renting before they move in
