Fastpass return or replacement?

The issue was that having people in the FP lines like normal would cause the standby lines to extend even further out into walkways than they already were.

If they were filling the FP line like they use to, we wouldn't see lines snaking through the park. They are because everyone riding is in the standby line. While lines might be long, parks might feel crowded, there are certainly not more people going this year than in previous years- it just feels like more because they have nothing to do but be in line or be standing around. There is no reason for the lines to be extending into walkways based on the number of guests in the parks. They're extending because there's only one line to be in. FP lines ate up a lot of people because those lines moved much faster.

Does anyone happen to know how long the waits have to be at DLP in order for the standby queue system to be activated?

If the rumors from earlier in the week end up being true I am just trying to get an idea of what the free pass would mean from a wait standpoint.

As far as I can tell it happens on predicted wait times. On my last trip it was active on Thursday but not Friday. We didn't think Friday was busier than Thursday.
I don't think the system is activated during the day, they decide on forehand.

At the moment the predicted wait time with Standby is 65 minutes. However, these times are inflated, I have been told.

Idk how long they are in DLP but my main concern is from business perspective they need to be long enough for Disney to make case someone should buy lightning pass instead. They basically need to find balance of how long they should be for guests to be happy enough they still go to parks but unhappy enough to occasionally buy lightning pass. This is my biggest concern about paid fast pass, it essentially incentivizes Disney to keep standby line long even during slow times.

The strange thing is, they are testing the Standby Pass with the coaster that never had, and never will have, a Fastpass option. Crush Coaster always only had regular queue, plus single rider.
It is too slow loading / low capacity per hour to justify a FP.

I doubt they will start any new Fast Pass system on October 1st. We all know the limits and capabilities of Disney IT. If htey launch that day and there is a snafu, they don’t want to be dealing with that on the anniversary. I definitely think it’ll either be in place prior to that date or not at all for a while.
The system could be tested
We may think Disney's IT isn't up to the challenge irrelevant
Disney has to think they're up to it

At this point, whatever the result is I would really like an announcement of some kind. So many of us have trips coming up and I am finding it increasingly difficult to get excited. Normally by now I would be working on a preliminary schedule but I feel like it's futile right now. I have no idea how much time I will need to allocate to wait times, how many attractions we can feasibly do in a day, and whether or not I will need to focus on something other than rides because my two young kids won't be able to tolerate waiting for much longer than 30 minutes. We won't be there until spring, but I was convinced that there would be news by now and the absence of that is making me nervous.

Turn it around and satisfy your innerplanner dreams: now you get to make multiple plans! 😀
- Plan 1 no fp
- Plan 2 fp+
- Plan 3 mix / the unknown

No matter what Disney throws at you: you will be prepared!

This is actually the perfect solution LOL. I've been using Touring Plans to come up with a schedule if there's no fastness/fp alternative, so I've got a leg up on that already!

You know, I’m going to do this 🤣 Our 60 day mark is Sunday, time to take control of what I can take control of!

One more thing to add about DAS. Apologies because I know many of you are beyond tired of reading about it.

It’s my understanding that although DAS returns happen through the FP lane, the DAS program itself operates independently from FP+. As such, there is a good likelihood that the introduction of a new paid FP system will have no effect at all on how DAS functions, and what rules are attached to it.

EVERYBODY is disappointed that FP will probably cost $$ in the future. No one more so than many people with special needs who were able to effectively use it, instead of going through the hassle of DAS.

DAS is very important to the people who need it, and has little to no effect on those who don’t. Therefore, people’s personal judgments about others’ disabilities and who is “abusing” the system are not relevant to this discussion. They are uninformed at best, because no one knows what someone else is going through by just looking at them, and hurtful at worst. Disney makes their rules, and Disney polices them. Please leave those judgments to them, and just enjoy your time in the parks.

It bothers me to no end about how people abuse the disability system. People who consider themselves or their children disabled with ADHD, obesity etc drive me nuts. My father is an amputee and he has never ever abused these systems. Many times he will even avoid using services that are offered because he doesn't absolutely need them. It drives me crazy when I see overweight people in scooters. As I child I was diagnosed with ADHD and apparently it was pretty bad. I remember my dad telling me that this was no excuse for being rude, disrespectful or inpatient. We would go places and if I was being any of the above we would go straight back home. No yelling, no screaming. Just these are the rules and if I wanted to enjoy these activities I needed to learn to adapt. Eventually I learned. I became a huge reader and dragged my books (Harry Potter!)everywhere we went and learned to keep myself occupied. When we finally went to Disney I was 9 years old and we waited in line 2 hours to see Mickey. We could have used the DAS line, we could have at that time even skipped the whole queue but I learned so much in those lines.
I have sympathy for people with disabilities that are self imposed through laziness (obesity) or overly protective parents that victimize their children.
On the other hand I have complete respect for parents with severely autistic/cebebral palsy etc children who are doing their best and using the trip to help these kids grow. But let's not kid ourselves into thinking that these are the majority at Disney.
(I also get many many requests each year to write "disability" letters for people's Disney trips...)

How people got into the Fastpass line is between them and the Cast Member who let them in.

It's no one else's business. Full stop.

with one in 10 kids now falling somewhere on the spectrum, I think it probable the DAS will be used more and more. I doubt many people take advantage, it's very difficult to discuss ones disability, or your Child, believe me. ESP. in person! also, people , like myself, with arthritis, are fine at first, but as the day wears on, standing in those long lines becomes very painful. Fibromyalgia flares up with tons of walking, and so do many other things not visible.
This said, I could use this pass every time we go, but don't. I think I will now due to lack of fast pass, two-three lines and I'm done and at the prices they charge now, I can't justify not going for the entire day.

I'm not sure why I got the dislikes. Basically I know people abuse the disability system because they ask me to help. (MD). I had a mom ask me to write a disability letter for her 6 year old overweight son because he "gets tired walking" and "gets cranky when he's hot and tired". Otherwise a very smart and healthy kid. I declined. She used the Disney disability system anyways. I know a mom that was bragging how her kid used an old aircast to get on all the rides. "these kids are so smart". 🤷‍♂️
The disability system is invaluable but it gets abused often.
Edit: I am not spreading misinformation about DAS. 1) I said people asked for letters not that they need them. 2)Das does help you avoid having to stand in lines. You still wait but not in line. Now let's get back to complaining about fast passes.

Agreeing with you, but also pointing out the bolded sentence is important to this. The missing restaurants, shows and other things to do also ate up people. I think you need both FP and other things for people to do in-between FP times to alleviate the long lines snaking through the parks/crowded feel.

I used to think the honor system worked, most of the time. No, watching covid going nuts again, I think I was wrong.

If you want to discuss DAS abuse, there is currently a topic in the DisABILITIES forum dedicated to that. These comments are completely off topic here and risk getting the thread closed.

For anyone who wants to know how Disney’s DAS really works (including that Disney will not consider at so-called “disability letters,” and that mobility-only issues like using a scooter or wheelchair, or being in a cast, do not qualify someone for DAS) please look here:

Please, let’s stop spreading misinformation and get back to the topic of FP return or replacement. Thanks!

The biggest reason I think a change is happening, besides the litany of rumors, is that they haven't brought back FP+. There is no reason that if they intended to bring it back, that they wouldn't have yet. At least not one that I can think of.

Now as to why they haven't announced what is coming in its place, I'm not sure. My only guess is that there is one or two major decisions they haven't made yet and are still analyzing. They are great at pricing so that can't be it. Only decisions they may be analyzing might be how many "free" ones and to whom to give them to. Or else they are just waiting on releasing the info with the release of whatever the new AP system will be. We may get those announcements together.
