Do you keep cash at home?

Spin-off of the thread about Disney machines being down yesterday. Got me thinking.

Since Covid hit and we went into lockdown last year and shortage of supplies then, we decided to actually get a small safe and keep some cash at home. I never would have worried before, but with all the hacking going on nowadays and uncertainty in the world, we figure it might be a good idea and now keep some. I just have to make myself not spend it on fun things.😉. Only kidding! It is for emergencies only.

Do you keep cash at home?

Not a penny we just don’t use cash at all

We don’t either really. I very rarely carry it but the way the world is, my luck the banking system will crash on a day I need money. Also….we did have an ice storm several years ago where the power was out and there were a couple places here that could only take cash. Since then it has been in the back of mind.

I keep money in a safe at home when I'm saving for a Disney trip because I'm not allowed to have more than a certain amount in the bank due to SSI rules. Other than that, I use cash exclusively in the real world except for online shopping, then I use the debit card associated with the bank account. I'm probably a dinosaur in that regard.

Yes, there is (was) about $1000 in cash in a decorative box in the upstairs storage room the last time I checked.

I should go see if DH “borrowed” any recently.

There are also some Euros and Canadian and Hong Kong dollars in there. Cuban currency as a souvenir. UK pounds too.

Just remembered some Portuguese patacas from Macau.

I'm retired now, and on a limited income. While I have always preferred cash, in recent the months the uptick in places adding a 3% surcharge for the use of debit and credit cards or imposing $10 minimum charges on cards really is pushing me more to cash. I have been paying cash for gasoline probably for the last 30 years for the 10 cent a gallon discount.
And while my kids are grown, as parents know, those last minute as your child is heading out the door for school " I need $25 TODAY for. the skating party etc" situations may having cash on hand a necessity.

I have about $800 in cash at home. Whenever I sell something and people pay me with cash, I just stick it in there. Usually we will take some of it on vacation with us or I grab it if I need cash for something else. I actually don’t remember the last time I used my card at an ATM machine

I try and keep some cash in house as long as DH does Not know as he will spend it - I save it for cash only situations which arise frequently shockingly so

Yes yes and yes
We also have it in a safe
