Covid 2nd time after cruising?

We were on this cruise also and this is first I'm hearing of this. How disappointing that must have been. IIRC, Cartegena was the day before the transit, possibly too soon to show symptoms. Cozumel was 2 days before Cartegena and I was too afraid to take any excursions there just in case we'd get exposed and then have to miss watching the canal transit. We didn't even go to a beach.

We also sailed last August and November and never got covid until May when dh was exposed to a coworker. We are still in our 90 day recovery bubble of bliss. It's actually a great feeling to not live in fear of catching covid from someone nor do I fear giving it to someone.
It's a lot like the feeling of not needing to worry about using birth control while you're already pregnant.
You know you can catch another variant of covid within the 90 days, right? We know several people who have had multiple variants within a 90 day time period. I don’t think there is such a thing as a 90 day recovery bubble of bliss.

I knew you could get different variants but I didn't realize there were multiple variants circulating. Usually it's been kind of one at a time but I clearly haven't been keeping up on it all.

So then why does DCL allow people to provide a 90 day proof of recovery and make them exempt from testing? "Recovery" really shouldn't mean squat right now if many people are truly getting multiple variants within 90 days.

The exempt from testing is because you can still show a positive test within 90 days of contracting Covid. So while it CAN be a reinfection, it's nearly always a false positive.

I have been saying this for a while. You could have multiple variants of covid within 90 days, get a recovery letter from the first infection, not have to test to board and being another variant onto the ship. This is probably one of the reasons there is so much covid on the Disney ships right now.

We had omicron 2 a few weeks ago. Now omicron 4 and 5 are circulating. They are saying having omicron 2 provides no benefit in catching omicron 4 and 5. I could easily catch 4 or 5 and bring onto the fantasy in 2 weeks.

Only a PCR would show an old infection after recovery.
A rapid antigen test shows a current infection. The 90 day recovery exemption should be eliminated if they are using/accepting rapid antigen tests.

To go back to the original question...This is so subjective, but we sailed 6/25-6/30 and flew and none of us got sick at all. Not even a cold, which shocks me! I had Covid for Christmas, no one else caught it. We are all triple vaxxed.

On the cruise FB group we have quite a few who have tested positive, but not nearly as many as I expected.

We sailed twice since Covid started and neither time got sick, but both were at times when there was testing required at the port on embarkation day instead of 2 days before which just statistically is bound to miss a lot of cases.

I've had Covid on 5 separate occasions since March 2020. None cruise-related. Vaccinated/boosted as soon as I was eligible, and am now quad vaxxed. But I mention because, as others have pointed out having Covid once before, doesn't reduce the odds of getting it again. There are so many variants out there.

When I had it the beginning of May (after my end of April cruise) I was surprised my husband didn’t get it. Neither did my kids & grandkids who were all around me. I dont understand the 90 day exemption either. when my mild symptoms started, I tested negative, waited 48 hours while symptoms continued and tested negative again, waited another 48 hours and still coughing my head off and finally tested positive and started antiviral meds on day 5. So it was after 5 days of symptoms before I tested positive, so I would’ve passed the test and thought I had allergies or a cold. Everyone reacts differently. So infected people are getting negative results. my next cruise is September, I think we will have our masks handy that cruise. We really let our guard down.

Interesting, never thought of it. This way, but definitely could be 💯

We were on the Fantasy at the end of May with about 3,200 on board. There were 4 of us and no one got COVID. We did have on person with a cold but no COVID (multiple tests negative)

FWIW I have friends traveling in Europe right now, and their entire party came down with covid the same day. The husband tested negative almost a full week before his test today "lit up a vibrant red immediately" while everyone else was testing + within the first day or so of developing symptoms... of course in their case there isn't a reason we'd assume it was anything but. It did encourage us to buy extra tests to take with us so we can keep making sure more times than we might have otherwise.

I just returned home yesterday from 4 nights on Dream, and DH and I just tested positive! This is our first time with Covid. Fully vaccinated and boosted. We have a tele medicine appointment with our provider later this afternoon. Symptoms are cold like mostly, but different enough to decide to test.

I wore a mask onboard.

DH and I sailed on Dream in September last year, and in January on the Magic, and neither we nor our guests had any illnesses.

We’re currently on our fifth cruise since June 2021 (this time a non-DCL cruise, but with similar protocols) and finally caught it for the first time 6 nights into a 10-night cruise. We brought instant tests from home and were able to confirm we were positive before even calling down to the medical center. We’re vaccinated and double boosted (the most recent booster two weeks before the cruise), wore N95 masks at the airport, in hotels, and on excursions, but we did not mask on-board.

We sailed Oct and thanksgiving 2021 and both times wore masks and did other precautions and neither time did we get covid.

Sailing again in less than 48 hours and not so sure with BA.5 and what I know about it that I will be able to say the same. The risk is definitely higher right now (speaking as a licensed medical professional)

You made me feel better about changing my cruises from August to February TBH. I do have a autoimmune disease(lupus) it is mild compared to others no organ damage of stuff or stuff and don’t want to live in fear either plan on masks in February too, tbh but will enjoy cruising

A mix for us. Our kids had it before and only 1 got it after this July cruise. This was my first time getting it and hubby did not get it. We were all vaxxed, but I am the only one boosted. We did not mask up.
***we did stop on the turnpike for a break/gas on the way back from cruise and went in store, so it could have been caught there***. We cruised in November, masked up and did not get it.
