Stuck on the Skyliner

We got stuck on the Skyliner for almost 30 mins yesterday. It got to the point where they said we could use the emergency kit and I was freaking out. It was a horrible experience and we missed our early entry to Hollywood Studios.
Dose anyone if this happens regularly as I feel nervous going on it now or is it a rare occurrence.

It does not happen regularly. A stop that long is a rare occurrence. It does slow down often and even stops for a very short time (under 5 minutes) sometimes.

I'm sorry that happened to you. It would freak me out too.

Thank you, yes it was distressing. We were on there with four other people that we didn't know so that made it worse and more claustrophobic. We are staying at carribean beach so I'm going to have to use it a lot.

Stay hydrated and bring an extra water aboard.
Drinking water helps alleviate my claustrophobia a bit when I'm feeling triggered.
Good luck! :goodvibes

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. We didn't get offered anything to compensate for it so I assumed it might be a regular thing
It's a mode of transportation for Disney so compensation is going to be rare. It's been up and running for enough years of consistency. That said you're not alone in your experience and I know it was a concern for enough folks when it was being built. I'm sorry you experienced that. If it's not super busy you can also request your own cabin although I suspect getting to DHS for early entry will be unlikely to have that ability.

What was in the emergency kit?
White handkerchiefs to wave frantically, I've heard, and smelling salts.

It's rumored there was initially a Navy surplus inflatable life raft in case you're stuck over water. Apparently, people panicked and inflated it before exiting the gondola, so that was removed.

(Okay, OKAY! I'll shuddup before anybody takes me seriously...)

That's surprising. Their transportation breaking down caused you to miss out on early entry, a perk you paid for staying on site. To me that's worth two G+ anytime selections, since you would likely get on two rides with minimal wait during that time.

Yes, this has happened several times, sometimes for hours. It doesn't happen all the time, but it occasionally happens. I won't ride it on a hot afternoon for that reason.

They should have compensated you for the stress and lost time by giving you ride passes.

It's a bus on a string. Sometimes there are problems. I could certainly be wrong but I've never heard of compensation for a bus being late.
We were stuck on a monorail at the MK stop for 45 minutes. Made us late for our ADR at the Poly. It wasn't even a quirk. There was a Mickey Christmas party and they had kicked everyone out. They had to add another monorail. So nobody thought that there might be one needed ahead of time? Nobody on that train was offered any compensation.

The skyliner slows down at various rates and times for the sole reason to give people time to exit or enter cabins for various reasons.
There are notices posted, if you are afraid of heights, claustrophobic or are sensitive to motion, this experience may not be for you. I myself am afraid of heights. I make my wife climb the 14 foot ladder to change the light bulbs in the ceiling light fixtures at home. Lol
Most stops are not very long. Most stops are because someone is somewhere where they shouldn’t be and it’s a safety issue. It is a big hunk of unforgiving steel and it’s nothing to play around with. Like anything else, not used properly, you can get hurt. The operators have a tuff job, it’s a safety critical role and they are responsible for everyones safety.
On the rare occasion it does go down for extended amount of time, other than lightning which yes, nobody is left swinging in the storm, the cabins are evacuated, it is mechanical. There are over three miles of cable with a million sensors. There was one time in October of 2019 it went down for almost three hours. It hasn’t gone down for hours, other than weather since then. Well over 99 percent of all stops are for guest safety.
It’s one of the safest and fastest mode of transportation on property.
It is not for everyone. I’ve seen people flip out on a packed bus. My wife won’t get into an elevator with other people and will get out if someone tries to come in with her.
Im afraid of heights, you can jam me in mission space, you can spin me and flip me, just don’t take me up. Lol

There were some issues when that ride first opened, you can probably search for older threads discussing those problems. It is a mechanical device so things can go wrong regardless of who well it worked in the past. Due to the way the route was setup, if you get stuck over water there aren't many good options available.

When crossing Hourglass Lake, which is between AoA and Pop, off to the side you can see a special barge that can offload guests from the Skyliner if they’re stuck over the lake. And the emergency response folks do practice using that as well as performing rescues over land. I think there are some reports of both here on DISboards.
