I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

I'm annoyed at IHG. I was one of the ones who got the diamond elite status last year and just needed 10 nights to remain diamond for 2023. I had 9 already and then we spent a night at a Kimpton on New Year's eve specifically for that purpose. But apparently it credited in 2023, NOT 2022 even though that is the night we spent there. I know I shouldn't be upset because normally you have to stay like a billion nights to achieve diamond, but we would NOT have spent the money, etc. to stay on NYE had I known that! I am bumped down to Platinum which isn't bad, but Diamond got free breakfast which was at least $60 worth at Kimpton.

All that to say, we need 2 nights pre-cruise and 1 night post-cruise in Seattle in May. Typically I would stay with IHG but now I am open if anyone has a good suggestions, neither of us has been to Seattle before.
We stayed at the Motif in Seattle (Hyatt property) and had a good experience in June.

It never occurred to me to worry about it before, but do you have to be consistent with the “number of years in business” question or does it matter if the answer is not the same as on a prior application a few years ago?

I couldn't remember what I put last time. So, I said 2020 and $1500. The list of choices has also changed since I last did a business. So, my business has also changed slightly. I'm still in sales. I'm slowly selling all my old stuff.

I also only answer calls from numbers I recognize and my voicemail is not set up. No one has ever called me to get any info pending approval. That I know of.

Many of the businesses I tend to use all do text now.

Approval was instant.

DW is a teacher so we really only have a specific week in February to go. It looks like AA miles don't transfer to Avios so the AA Cards wouldn't help, it sounds like I'd be better off focusing on getting as many URs as possible?

With the $15K spend in 3 months I don't think I would open anything new until I hit the spend. How soon after I downgrade my CSP can I re-apply?
I believe most people wait a week. If I were getting ready to do this trip again in 2 years and starting from ground zero, here’s what I would do. I’d apply for a CIC before the offer ends on 3/21. It’s 90k for $6k spend in 3 months with 0% on purchases so you can float some expenses for up to 12 months if needed. I’d refer P2 for one as well. That would earn 212k URs with the two MSR, subs and referral. After those MSRs are met and 3 months have gone by, I’d go ahead and downgrade the CSP and then apply again after a week or so. Then refer P2 for one as well.

I may be misunderstanding or misremembering where you need to spend $15k. If you mean for a Hilton FN certificate on a Surpass, you would get one for holding an Aspire card. They do expire a year after deposit into your account. If you are going to go with the Hilton Rangali be sure to time having your points and FN certs in place about a year before booking. Amex will deposit them about 12 weeks after you make the spend or your card anniversary hits. You can also buy Hilton points at .005 cents per point which is not bad to use at some place like the Maldives for an overwater bungalow. In any case,

Just checked and had the same message…but a link I saved is working…maybe check back and see if you have an old link saved somewhere

Thanks for the idea. I sent Dh a link last week and was able to find it in our text. I applied through the link. No idea if it will work but it is still showing the elevated bonus so we’ll take it. I just found out he was approved by calling.
yay!

Thank you! This is helpful. We are in a similar circumstance.

DH got instant approval for CIU with my referral link. My link was for 20k and the CIU was for the 90k bonus. I heard it was reduced to 75k, but we still secured the 90k today.

What site does everyone use to monitor credit. We have been using credit sesame and I’m wondering if there is a better source we could refer to? Our scores are strong, but the one item that continues to appear is that we both need a better debt mix. We currently have just a mortgage and various revolving chase cards that we pay in full. We don’t really need or want another loan, so trying to figure out a way to get a better debt mix without taking out another loan? TIA

The Ink supports are back. 40k for the supporter now! But CIU/CIC SUB is down to 75k for $6000. In 2 player mode, this is 5k more compared to before (SUB plus support), but the support is taxable.
This is great, that helps my decision. DH just got another Ink and it's been 3 months since my last one so I was considering getting another before the elevated bonus expires. But it would have been a stretch to do that much spend so now I think we'll just wait until we're done with the current card.

If your scores are good why is your debt mix a concern?

I use credit karma but I don't pay any attention to what they say, I just use it for the two credit bureaus they use. The cards they suggest I apply for are trash and not at all in line with the types of cards on my cr or even with my high score.

I’m sooo… “forgetful” I guess is a better/nicer word 😅 I was waiting for DH’s new CIU to come in thinking, oh great, we can make all our Japan ticket purchases, like Disney tickets, JR Rail pass, Teamlab tickets, etc on it and easily that’s $1000 of spend. Oops, forgot about foreign transaction fees. Guess these are all going on the CSP instead 😭 Side note… we’re getting really excited, as we approach the 60 day mark!

You’re not alone. We’re headed to Costa Rica next week and I was looking for a new card with no foreign transaction fees. Darn it those Ink cards. We ended up with a USB Leverage card just because that’s what works for us at the moment.

I agree with afan, I wouldn’t worry too much about it If your scores anre high. Our mortgage has been paid off for decades, we have nothing but our credit cards on our credit report. I have an experian account that sends me random emails that say my score increased when my monthly card payments hit, and say it went down when I get a new card. Both are temporary fluctuations. I do look at our credit reports every now and then on the free annual credit report website

Credit Sesame just provides a trans union score and then grades for various components of the score. All other categories showed “A” except for Credit Mix, which said “C”, but it also said it accounted for only 10%. Then it was just trying to suggest new cards to apply for, so I was questioning if it was even legit? I guess I’ll try credit karma next time.

Credit Karma covers Equifax and Transunion. Experian you can get a free Experian account or the free monitoring from Chase, Discover, and Capital One all use Experian.
