Not a fun day today with SWA. 12:40 flight from ISP to LAS with layover in BWI cancelled and rebooked for 430 pm. That flight was delayed several more times making it impossible to make the connecting flight and they could not guarantee that they would hold the flight. We are rebooked for tomorrow morning, with 5 hour layover in Baltimore. Losing 1 day on our timeshare but SWA did give us $200 voucher each which you have to use before 3/10/2024.

My guess is weather related but just my guess. Did you happen to check via flight aware where your plane was supposed to be coming from (both the original flight and the 4:30pm flight)? I do that when I want to know potential reasons for delays.

We were told the original flight was from Baltimore. Not sure on the 2nd flight. They also said Orlando was having lots of issues today.

They did just have winter storm Ricardo for the northeast yesterday and SWA had a travel advisory out. Could have been operational issues there due to that. The Midwest has been getting rain, ice and snow today with that storm moving eastward. Not sure what could have been going on in Orlando but geez they sure don't need any more issues.

Fingers crossed tomorrow is better for you :flower3:

I have a flight from MEM with a 55 min layover at ATL then to MCO. It’s the last flight out that night. I purchased WGA fares with EBCI with the intention of upgrading my flight to BS using my SWA biz card credits. I just wonder on the last flight out of the night, would it be a sold out flight or do most people take the earlier ones and upgrading might not be available. Since it’s a short layover and with all the horror stories I read on here about being stuck in B & C boarding group, would I be better off changing to Anytime now for the better boarding position? Then I could still upgrade to BS if available at 24 hrs. We like to sit up front on the plane so we can get off quicker to get to our next flight. I don’t want to waste money upgrading to Anytime if I don’t have to, but I know more than that, I definitely don’t want to be in a bad boarding position. As of right now the WGA flights are $99 so I know it’s not sold out or even close yet. We have been flying exclusively SWA for the last 10+ years and have yet to have B boarding group, but it seems like those days might be gone with all the changes they’ve made.

Early Bird Check-in question...

Are there factors that contribute to your assigned position? Like how early you add EBC to your tickets? Or is it completely random?

We were disappointed in our recent EBC experiences. Assigned boarding group positions: B2-B5 and B17-B20.

It's based on status, the fare class and when it is purchased.

Status of A-List/A-list Preferred have the highest priority
Fare class Anytime Fares (which now include EBCI with the fare) are above WGA, WGA+ is above (I believe that's the assumption there) WGA

The earliest you purchase it the better chance you have at a lower Boarding position but it will also depend on the above factors too.

In addition to what @Mackenzie Click-Mickelson said, if you change to a different flight at any point, that becomes the date assigned for your EBCI.

Thank you!

Ah, interesting. Thank you!

Think of what you'd have had without EBCI. It doesn't guarantee an A, just removes some stress about checking in.
Golly, probably close to C!

Either buy up to BS now or don't mess with it. If you have EBCI now, you're about as high as your going to get now, if you buy up to anytime you're throwing away what you spent for EBCI to move up probably not all that many places. You're going from higher on the list of WGA with EBCI to the bottom of the list of Anytime.

You’re right! I just get nervous with short layovers after almost being left at MDW a couple years ago due to the first flight being delayed and they were not going to wait on us on the second leg. We were running as fast as we could through that airport and by the time we got there my daughter was crying and they were about to close the doors on us. That was also the last flight that night so kind of the same scenario this time too. I’ll just leave it as is and hope for the best. I just wonder how the top of the WGA EBCI list compares to the bottom of the Anytime list. I did purchase our tickets on release day as soon as they were available so I know I was one of the first ones. Does your boarding position change when they have a fare drop and you modify your tickets or only when you change flights? My fare has changed at least 4 times since I first booked, leaving us with $80 in travel funds each.

I think I'm giving up on flying to MCO on SW. By the time I pay for the flights and then EBCI (which may only give us B groups), I can pay for main cabin on Delta and choose our seats to guarantee we'll be together. Delta has also had better flight times lately.

I’m disappointed with our flight times too. We used to have a daily nonstop to MCO that left at 6:00 am. Now it’s at like 3:00 pm, which causes us to lose so much park time on that first day. So now we take the last flight out the night before, but then it’s not a direct flight. I wish they’d go back to how it used to be. I’ve never checked any other airlines, but I should if they might have better flight times like for you, especially if the cost is comparable

Reading the above stories I feel very fortunate that DCA still has several non-stops to/from MCO. Had a 6 AM Saturday morning flight a couple of weeks ago, checked in at 24 hours out, got A 37. Home on a 7:30 PM flight got A 54 checking in myself.

We usually fly out of BWI. Actually, I've never flown out of DCA. How is parking at the airport? Is it easy to maneuver? We're right between both airports.

I've been told the position does not change if you modify to the same flight, but will take on the new date if you change to a different flight.

I wish that was the case. I bought my SW tickets for October on Friday for $388, non-stop both ways. On Delta it would have been over $800 and required a connection in DTW, ATL or LGA.
