I know there’s been a lot of discussion about the only advantage to buying direct being the ability to stay at restricted resorts, and that all the other perks are a bit dubious and not worth it. I disagree, but do understand the reasoning. I think the return of APs is for some a game changer, and further argument that depending upon one’s frequency of visits, and length of stay, for some there are significant benefits to at the least owning a hybrid combination of direct and resale points.

This is my thought as well. I will have two smaller resale contracts and have a similar plan as @tom1944 but I'm not 100% committed to it yet.

I am a MK holder and live about an hour away from Disneyland, so I go there every month or so. I really would like to buy into VDH. Eventually the plan would be to sell off my resale contracts and just keep the direct, but we'll see how things go from here.

And, there is now a report from a sign up at VGF that DVD may have lowered minimum buy in for new buyers to 100 points...you won't qualify for membership extras unless you do 150...but you could have some direct points for staying at restricted resorts..

There are so many different situations that a lot of options of direct/resale, or combination can work!

I’d call and do it as soon as they open. When they opened a year and a half ago, I called to do it. The wait was long so a CM tried to tell me to just wait and do it at the window in December. I decline, told them I’d wait for my turn on the phone. Glad I did as we all know what happened!
Do you remember what time they started to offer them on the phone last time? We leave for Disney April 22 and I’m afraid if I don’t upgrade to AP on the 20th they will be gone by the time I get to Disney.

For example. If you are going in Oct 2023 and you've already booked using your 2023 Oct UY points, you have up to 30 days prior to cancel and still retain all the advantages of a full UY plus retain the ability to bank if necessary.
Remember that you can book that Oct 2023 using your Oct UY points 11 months prior. Even though your booking in 2022, you are actually using your Oct 2023 UY points which are valid as of Oct 1st 2023. This assumes you haven't borrowed those points into 2022 etc...
Ah that makes sense now! :thanks: so much!

Other than the financial difference, which gets lots of attention, any thoughts or observations on only direct/only resale/hybrid differences? I am not aware of any "functional" difference between the points?
When there was the 50% borrowing restriction there was an IT glitch which impacted mostly those w/ resale points - they had to call to borrow points, the CM I spoke with said it typically happened to resale owners after they’d already borrowed once. I haven’t had to borrow for awhile & haven’t seen recent reports about it, so it seems the glitch disappeared when they ended the borrowing restrictions.
When they rolled out the digital Y/N membership cards a lot of grandfathered resale Y members were given N, another tech glitch, mine was initially N, but is now correct.
I’m hybrid, the majority of my points are grandfathered blue/Y. I also own some direct. I have one 100 point AKV resale that is restricted & every time there’s some new tech rollout I wonder if there’ll be a glitch that disproportionately impacts resale owners.

And all of those combinations are what really makes this board so valuable. People really have a wealth of knowledge and perspective.

Hi! New member here. I have a direct contract at BWV from 1998. We haven’t used our points in a while and just returned from a stay at BLT. Absolutely loved it. I may have paid a bit too much per point but there didn’t seem to be much available for BLT in the point range I desired.

LOL I've been trying for about 5 weeks on 150-175 point SSR contracts. Maybe I'm on the wrong sites haha
One of the agents from the board sponsor was on a show talking about unrealistic offers. They said they were receiving a bunch of low offers and that those putting out those offers justified them because of other low offers getting accepted and how it was not the norm and are unicorn deals. Sounded like she calling out this thread lol.

I was definitely lowballing for my SSR contract. I was okay with my final price but was definitely trying to get the prices close to what I was seeing on the thread.
