Thanks. I felt like a giddy little school girl putting it together . So fun!Nice! Love your color palette and icon choices! . I love using the widget on my home screen so I can see the countdown for the soonest trip easily and just touch it to pull the rest all up quickly.
I know the 276 notification is going to drive some people insane when they see it. Haha.
I’m a newbie too and hoping I can book a 1 bedroom in October. I do have Harbor hotel reservations as a back up, but would be so awesome to stay at VDH. Also hope we newbies get a decent incentiveThere's probably a newbie DVC buyer thread here somewhere it, this is probably a generic DVC question but, since I'm looking to buy my first DVC at VDH I'm hoping I'm not out-of-line asking this here.
If I get what I want (an Oct YU, 2x50 pt contracts, Preferred View Studio) will I be guaranteed to get a Preferred View when I book at 11-months out? This is what prompted my question - "So a ~40% chance of a standard view at the 11 month mark."
Hey, swolphin is awesome. And it gets almost every perk of staying in property, which I never understood. Marriott must be paying Disney a pretty penny to be part of the bubbleI think we should ALL just be thankful we don't have to hear how both resorts are a waste of money, and you'd be better off renting points or getting a room at Swolphin...
No.Hey, swolphin is awesome.
Wait, isn’t our Swolphin the Harbor hotels?I think we should ALL just be thankful we don't have to hear how both resorts are a waste of money, and you'd be better off renting points or getting a room at Swolphin...
Massive! . Congratulations and welcome home! I’m glad I don’t runJust bought my massive 55 point contract today (already have 120 VGC). Now it’s time to prepare to compete with all the other runDisney folk for a reservation on race weekend! It’s my first ever runDisney event, so I really hope I can pair that with a stay at the new tower. I had no chance of booking VGC once I realized people were walking their reservations.
The theming is obviously nothing to write home about but you can’t deny the location. I almost rather stay there for Epcot/HS than at Riviera. And also for Shula’s of courseNo.
I’ll give you Shula’s, and that’s it.
Okay, I think I get it. You use the points chart to figure out what to buy for what you want. I'm a "nobody" who plans a year in advance (coming from Canada) and stays 3-5 days annually. So, If I want a preferred view studio at around 22 points/night, my 100 points should work. BUT, I don't buy A preferred studio. I just buy enough points to cover a preferred IF it's available, is that right? No guarantee but I’d bet money that you will always be able to get a Preferred View studio at 11 months out
Oh we are just referring to the unit we technically own based on our deeds. It has nothing to do with booking. I think you’re understanding it. You buy enough points that you can use to book your stay. When you get your points it’ll say something along the lines of “you own 100 points which is 0.1264% of 1D.” But you can use your points however you like.Okay, I think I get it. Why is it, though, that I see people specifying buying a 1D or 1F 1-bedroom? Are they just buying enough points to cover that particular accommodation type or, have they bought a guaranteed week (which guarantees their specified room type) or...?
Wisdom is that you should always buy a bit more to give yourself a buffer to adjust for changes in allocations over the years. With your flexibility to stay in a range of nights, this also would help. You could also do the borrow just a little every year mode and stay that 4th or 5th night and then every 3rd cycle drop the nights down to adjust back. There is lots of ways to use the points and make it workI just buy enough points to cover a preferred IF it's available, is that right?
I was also going to joke about not disparaging the Swolphin—I’ve cone to realize there are two types of WDW-goers and (before kids) I was very much on the “wake before dawn, throw on clothes and rush immediately to parks for extra magic hours, spend all day parking hoping (maaaaaaybe taking a nap if I had an early morning and late night and the parks were crowded or weather nasty), and then come back, rinse off, and crash immediately” end of the spectrum. If your goal is to be in your room as little as humanly possible, the Swolphin is a decent substitute for BCV and BWV— but if you care about doing anything at all beyond a shower and crashing, and actually enjoying the resort it does not compare—though it is still a very easy walk to all the charming dining options at both of the nearby DVC properties. The theming is obviously nothing to write home about but you can’t deny the location. Of course you can’t compare the Swolphin to Beach Club or Boardwalk. But given the price disparity and location, you can’t deny its appeal. Agree with everything else though.I was also going to joke about not disparaging the Swolphin—I’ve cone to realize there are two types of WDW-goers and (before kids) I was very much on the “wake before dawn, throw on clothes and rush immediately to parks for extra magic hours, spend all day parking hoping (maaaaaaybe taking a nap if I had an early morning and late night and the parks were crowded or weather nasty), and then come back, rinse off, and crash immediately” end of the spectrum. This perfectly sums up my feelings on the matter. Plus, I think they are two of the absolutely ugliest buildings I have ever seen, both inside and out. The rooms are somewhat small, and very pedestrian. As to cost, I'm a Bonvoy Platinum Elite, and Marriott is my preferred hotel chain for business travel, but I'd save my points and use them on a better hotel on a non-Disney vacation. The place isn't terrible, but relatively speaking it's just like settling for a scoop of vanilla in a cup, when there are 30 more flavors in the case plus a variety of cones, for just a few pennies more.I was also going to joke about not disparaging the Swolphin—I’ve cone to realize there are two types of WDW-goers and (before kids) I was very much on the “wake before dawn, throw on clothes and rush immediately to parks for extra magic hours, spend all day parking hoping (maaaaaaybe taking a nap if I had an early morning and late night and the parks were crowded or weather nasty), and then come back, rinse off, and crash immediately” end of the spectrum. Yes, I simply took the full charge amounts to my credit card statement when doing the cost per point calculation. My understanding was that this year's partial dues were included in the closing costs. Is that considering $22 off with magical beginnings or have you already factored in annual dues for the 2023 points that were sold?
