Any credit card strategy for purchasing add-on?

I am looking to add on at the Villas at Disneyland Hotel and was wondering if anyone can share their credit card strategy in terms of 0% APR first year or attractive sign-on bonus (I am considering the Chase Sapphire Preferred current 80K sign-on bonus) or whether DVC purchase is some sort of special category that can earn extra credit card points? TIA!

We opened up a southwest airlines card when they had a 100k companion pass-eligible points promo for purchases over 12k. Transferred to a 0% APR card. We had to pay a 3% balance transfer fee, but the value of the companion pass plus all the bonus points far exceeds the balance transfer fee we paid. We've gotten 8 round trip flights from the companion pass plus used all the points earned from the contract purchase for about 9 round trip flights to MCO from the northeast.

That's a lot of free trips! Unfortunately I rarely fly Southwest but interested in knowing if the 0% APR card was the Southwest card or another card you transferred to/from? Thanks!

It was a BoA card, nothing special just one of their no fee, 0% balance transfer cards. I believe it was 0% for purchases and transfers for 20 months? Forget exactly how long (paid it off already).

If you already have an existing Chase Card ie: Freedom Unlimited or Flex you can try to call Chase to see if you qualify for the pay over time 0 fees, 0 interest...could be as long as 18 months for larger purchases. The Chase Sapphires codes DVC purchases as travel so you can potentially earn 2x or 3x points if you charge the purchase there but they do not come with the 0% apr promos. Disney Visa is also another option but the 0% APR for DVC purchase is only for 6 months. You can potentially charge it there then balance transfer to another cc with 0% balance transfer promos.

One of the best choices right now is the Chase Ink Business Unlimited Card. If you or anyone you know already has an Ink card, you can generate a referral link and earn 40,000 points from the referral. The sign up bonus on the card is 75,000 points and it offers 0% APR on purchases for the first 12 months. It also gives you 1.5% back on purchases, and the spend required is $6,000. The card is fee-free, so that's great too. If you can get the referral bonus, the total points generated between spend, referral, and sign up bonus is 124,000. Those can be redeemed for cash ($1,240), or moved to another Chase Ultimate Rewards earning card (such as Sapphire preferred/reserve or Ink Preferred) and transferred to partners like Hyatt (or used to book travel through Chase). Paired with a sapphire reserve, those points could be worth as much as $1,860 since that card gives you a redemption rate of 1.5 cents per point when booked through Chase.

I coordinated opening six new cards - Ink Unlimited - with my family to buy our VDH contract. We easily generated over $8,000 in cash back (~$50 a point in cash back!) and if we use the points to book travel thru Chase's portal, could buy over $12,000 in travel. And, we won't have to pay for it for a year!

VDH codes as travel on Chase so you can get 3x points if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve or 2x for the preferred. They have a My Chase Plan where the first one is usually fee free and interest free so you can pay over up to 24mo.

I do have Chase Freedom Unlimited, so I will give them a call to see what they can offer me as I have a fairly high credit limit on that card and I worry any new card I open may not have a high initial credit limit for a big ticket item like DVC purchase. Do you know of any 0% balance transfer card/promo? I googled and most have between 3%-5% balance transfer fee. According to one of the credit card review websites, the Union Platinum card used to have $0 balance transfer fee with 0% APR for 18 months but that's no longer the case and it seemed they are no longer open to new applications.

I thought Disney would at most split the purchase across 3 credit cards? Would definitely love to learn about the other 5 cards you opened...or were they all Chase Ink Unlimited cards and the points earned were through cross referrals?

Perfect! Looks like Chase is the way to go.

I am not aware of any cc with 0% balance transfer fees at the moment. You are correct that most are 3-4% balance transfer fee. What I meant with my post was 0%apr for the transfer from 12-18 months (depending on card) but you would still incur the balance transfer fee. Sorry for the confusion.

24 months is awesome! I thought max was 18months. Do you know if the 24 months gets trigerred by a certain amount? I only started seriously looking at my chase plan while planning our upcoming purchase. Ive only seen up to 18 months on mine but it was for a 1k charge only ( havent had a one time charge higher than that recently)

BofA has a credit card with 0% APR and $0 fee for balance transfers within the first 60 days for 21 months.
ETA: Looks like there is a 3% transfer fee after all.

I did CSR for my VDH purchase and can confirm the purchase qualifies for 24 months. You only get your first plan to be fee free though so since I split my contract into 100/50, I went ahead and put my 50 on Disney cc to get the 6 months there.

Does Chase remove this zero-interest purchase from your regular monthly statement then? Sorry I have not done any 0% APR before and not sure how the nitty-gritty works. I like to pay my credit card in full every month, so just wondering if they have a mechanism to separate out the VDH purchase from the monthly bill of other charges that I assume will not qualify for 0% APR. TIA!

I haven’t gotten my first bill yet but from my understanding I’ll pay the monthly owe for the DVC + what is labeled as the interest free balance each month (remainder of your transactions that we normally pay off monthly). Normally I avoid using the card that’s carrying a long term balance but the CSR is great for travel and dining so I’ve continued to use it. I hope it’ll be pretty straight forward.

They were all Ink Unlimited. We are three couples (Mom/Dad, brothers and spouses), so we each opened one through cross referrals. No issue with number of cards - guide never mentioned a limit or gave any pushback when we asked if we could do it.

Yeah…if you do the my chase plan, your monthly statement would give you the option for interest saving balance. So this will be the purchase amount you put in the plan divided by how many months the plan is. Then they add all of the other charges you put in your credit card for the month. As long ss you pay at least that amount stated in the interest saving balance then you wont incur any interest.
Just make sure to call Chase first to make sure your account is showing as eligible for the 0 plan fee before putting the charge because otherwise they charge a plan fee of 1.73% monthly which is just as bad as paying interest.

If you don’t mind sharing, I completely understand if you don’t want to.

how much did you put on the card?
What is your credit limit?
Has your credit score gone down? If it has, how many points?

I would love to go this route when the cabins go up for sale (pending buy in costs and point charts) but would be very concerned that if I put say half on my card (around $15k) and my credit limit is only $18.5k that my score would drop substantially due to high utilization.
