If your VQ is gir Guardians that won’t be a problem at all. For Guardians, once your group is called you can ride anytime from then until park close. You’ll be just fine. When you’re ready to ride, go to the tap station. You will be permitted to ride even if it’s hours later.

The same is not true with Tron. With Tron you must arrive during your 1 hour return window or you will be turned away.
Just a warning. Our flights were delayed by slightly over an hour and we didn’t get into Epcot until 7 pm. The GoTG line for rider swap was 15-20 mins long (around 7:15 pm) so I opted not to ride as we had Remy booked 8:40 pm. DH and older kids went to ride. The CM said the wait at that point was 60 mins. The ride broke down while they were on it and they didn’t get off until 9 pm.

In that time DD3 and I went to Spaceship Earth, Nemo, Moana Journey of Water and Remy (caught a glimpse of fireworks when we got off).

Hi -- we are headed down to WDW for a few days and have 1 day in EP (no park hopping). We'll be at the Swan. I've read post 1 and a few pages of the most recent posts in this thread. Just want to make sure I understand because we haven't done the VQ for GotG, we've only purchased ILL for a trip last January (couldn't get the VQ at 7am. We've used a VQ back in the RotR 'in park' BGs back in 2020.

So, we plan to also purchase the GotG ILL$, but it's my understanding that I need to attempt a VQ/BG first at 7am. THEN if I get it (or if I don't), move on to purchasing the ILL?

If I don't get the 7am drop, I can try again at 1pm as long as I've tapped into EP at some point before 1pm? I do not need to be IN EP in order to try for the 1pm drop?

Lastly, I don't have to have G+ to do any of the above correct? I'm starting to think I don't need it if we are just doing a very leisurely day/evening at EP and GotG is the only true priority. Riding Soarin' and Space would be nice and anything else would just be gravy.

Thanks for the help!

It is not required that you try for the 7:00 VQ before buying an ILL for the ride. However, the VQ "sells out" very quickly, so if you take time to buy the ILL first, the VQ may very well not be available to book afterwards. If you want both, the best strategy is to have two people on their phones, one trying for the VQ and the other buying the ILL. But if one person is doing it, the VQ is the priority. There should be plenty of ILL times available to buy after you get/don't get the VQ.

Over the past month, the ILL for Guardians has sold out for the day, on average, at 2:02 PM. (Source)

The VQ, ILL and G+ systems are independent of each other. You do not need to buy G+ to try for the VQ or to buy the ILL.

Many people have reported being able to get a VQ at 1:00 as long as they had previously entered the park in question, even though they had returned to their resorts for a break by 1:00.

Thanks for all this! I'll have re-train my husband on this. Last time was that RotR back in March of 2020 (yes, we were there when they announced the parks closing). I think in January, I had him on the ILL task and I did the VQ (unsuccessfully). This time we'll both try for the VQ first.

Thanks again!

You're right. The VQ is the priority, so you should both try for it. The ILL can wait. I withdraw my previous suggestion that one should be booking the ILL at that time.

HS is the only park where you want to book SDD Genie+ first and immediately buy the ROTR ILL$ (in busy park days; or wait 70-90 mins - not too bad) before non park guests can book at park opening. Even when it was a VQ the VQ took priority over booking SDD Genie+.

I was successful with getting a Tron VQ by turning off the WiFi and using cellular (I already experienced glitches with Disney WiFi disconnecting and an option to use without internet?!). We entered the park late and slept in (did wake up at 7 am to buy a ILL$ for Tron) so I tried for the 1 pm Tron VQ. Everyone stopped what they were doing and were all on their phones for Tron at 12:59 pm (click at 12:59:59). Got VQ 99.

I had purchased a ILL$ for Tron for 2:05-3:05 pm so we rode that first. VQ 99 was called around 3:50 pm but we had dinner at 4 pm and kept our receipt and were allowed to ride at 5:45 pm.

We were there for MNSSHP and got BG 159 the same day and were called around 9:00 pm? The first group took a good 40 mins to ride. We didn’t get great spots for the 10:15 pm fireworks.

TRON is the greatest ride I’ve ever ridden at Disney (or any other park). Mind-blowing.

We rode it today via a 7am VQ on our MK reservation day. Boarded at 6:30. Fantastic at night.

We are here 3 more days and want to go on TRON once or twice more. Could really use your help:

Park Hopper: None of the 3 remaining park reservations are for MK, they are for EPCOT, HS, and AK. Can we use our park hopper feature to get on Tron somehow? If so, how? Can we make a 7am ILL$ reservation? 1pm VQ but after 2pm?

Christmas Party: We have tickets for the Friday evening party at MK, our park reservation day originates at EPCOT. Is there a VQ window for Christmas Party attendees? ILL$? If so, what time and when do we try for one?

TRON is amazing. Have to go again. Thanks!

Our only MK day on our recent trip was our Halloween party. They did a 6pm vq drop for party ticket holders. I imagine they’ll do the same for the Xmas party? We didn’t have any trouble getting a spot.

You can park hop and join the 1 pm queue but you HAVE to be checked in to MK. Availability for the 1 pm drop has been hit or miss after park hopping time lately, there is a chance it disappears before you get there.

ILL is also an option, you’d have to just choose a time after 2.

If I go ILL$ can I grab them at my deluxe resort at 7am? Or do I need to be in MK to do that too?

Anyone staying on property can buy an ILL at 7am for 2 rides a day. They don’t have to be at your reserved park. Just buy one for after 2pm and you’ll be fine for hopping.

The VQ and ILL are separate processes and concepts.

Thank you both so much!

Thank you so much for this info. Does anyone know if TRON will be running during the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party? If so how does that work with the BG? We have that event booked during our stay there.

For our past 2 trips we have always got the first set of boarding groups for whatever vq we were entering. This morning for tron I got join at 700 on the nose vs 658 58/59 seconds to get a little later cause they wanted to sleep in the morning. So we got 54. Our boarding time was like 11 ish I think. Holy cow we waited 45 plus vs pretty much walking on when we have been in first groups at park opening. That normal for it to get backed up like that? I figured there would be a wait but I didn’t think we would be waiting 45 plus. Im just wondering cause if so I’ll always make sure if it’s vc park day it is a rope drop also regardless. We usually rope drop but we have been here since last Friday so the family wanted to sleep in a bit as I tossed and turned since 4 am. I should have just gone in myself to take pics.

Just to clarify, are you saying that I can buy a Tron ILL$ at 7AM (deluxe resort guest) for like a 7pm slot and then also try for a Tron VQ at 6PM (Christmas Party window) for like a 9pm slot and wind up riding the ride two more times during the Christmas Party tomorrow?

That would be amazing.

Yes, that is very common. Guests who purchase ILL$ have a short wait but regular VQ guests wait longer. As the day progresses, waits can increase. Our first VQ (90 - obtained at the 7AM drop) was called at 4:45PM and our wait once we joined the queue was 75 mins.

Anyone staying on property (value, moderate, deluxe) can buy a Tron ILL at 7am. For those with Park Hoppers, they can book a Tron ILL for 2pm onwards until the park is closed - for the party, ILLs are not sold so likely the last time slot available will be 4 or 5pm.

You will not be able to buy an ILL to be used during the party.

At 6pm, you can join the Party VQ. It goes very quickly so you'll want to act fast.

You will only get to ride once during the party via the VQ.
