Are you traveling to see the eclipse?

No. But my daughter just told me she got a message that school will be holding the kids for an extra hour for safety reasons. I'll probably go pick her up before school is out so we can maybe see it.
I haven't even looked to see if we are in the path of it.
I've got some special glasses around here someplace.

I live in Massachusetts, I'll be driving to South Carolina to see totality. I'm tent camping in South Carolina and will stop at Myrtle Beach for a day, then the eclipse then drive home.

Not sure how some of you think you can drive on the day of the eclipse to see it. On the west coast they are recommending you arrive 2 to 3 days in advance to ensure you get into a good viewing location. I-5 will be completely stopped for a 200 mile stretch from central Oregon to southern Washington. People will just stop on all lanes on the freeway and traffic will not be able to move at all on Monday.

REALLY? Interesting.

Here in MO where I am at partial phasing starts at 11:49 and full eclipse is at 1:30.

Flying from NJ to Disney on that day. Our flight leaves NJ at 3:00 and arrives in FL at 5:45. I'm guessing we won't see anything from the sky. Am I right in that thinking?

Use time and date to look at where the eclipse will occur at your local time. Expecially when seeking totality or the peak.

I guess Nashville is the largest city that is going to be right in the viewing path, so I suppose I can go outside. I feel like I should care, but I just don't. I slept through a beautiful (I'm told) lunar eclipse when I was Puerta Vuerta once. :confused3

Literally me...lol.

I'll be traveling to drop Niece off at college. I'll be heading in the opposite direction of the totality. We should be fine.

DS21 is an astrophysics major. Luckily, school doesn't start until after the eclipse, so we're going with him. We're from Bethlehem, PA and we're driving to Charleston, SC.

Our room's been booked for months. It may be cool to see, but 'm in it for some beach time!

My husband saw an article about it last year and thought it would be a fun thing to do. He tried to make a hotel reservation right away but it was too early. He was finally able to book in September. We are driving from South Jersey to TN taking 4 days to get there so we can stop at different places along the way.

The kids will be in school, but it sounds like the school plans to do something for it. If we see it here in western TN then great, otherwise I'm sure it will be on the news later.

That's a long drive

We're driving from Michigan to Yellowstone - booked a room in the Old Faithful Inn a year ago this May 1. Yellowstone won't experience totality - we were thinking of driving down to Grand Teton NP, which will, but it's supposed to be pretty crowded. So we've booked a viewing brunch in Jackson Hole, but we might have to leave to drive down at 5 in the morning or so! The Jackson Hole chamber of commerce said they just have no idea how many people to expect or how crowded the roads will be. Yellowstone should be pretty quiet that day, as a lot of people will probably head down to Grand Teton or thereabouts.

That might not necessarily be enough time, especially since I'd expect there will be a lot of people looking to do the same thing and that the park roads are narrow. Normal driving time from Old Faithful Inn with little traffic is more than 2 hours. Theoretically you're giving yourself 6 hours to get there, but what you're looking at is somewhat unprecedented. Grand Teton National Park expects that it will be the busiest day in park history.

I wonder how the animals will react. I'm pretty sure the bears, bison, deer, etc have never experienced a full eclipse.
