$300 price difference to change stateroom to verandah - yes or no?

I wouldn't do it and would either save the money or use it for an excursion, spa package, etc. I was in a similar situation as you and upgraded to a veranda and only used it twice (on sail away and when I arrived at Castaway Cay). I'm not one to spend a lot of time in my stateroom and I prefer to be out and about.

My boys (13 and 10) and I are very excited about our upcoming first ever cruise this fall! Out of curiosity, I checked today on what it would cost to change our stateroom from a deluxe oceanview to deluxe oceanview with verandah, and it would be about $300 more overall. $300 is a lot of money to me, but I wonder if that is a 'good' deal and I should go for it. I did not initially price out verandah staterooms as I figured they would just be too out of reach. Then again, we're just very excited to be going on a cruise at all, so we would not be disappointed with our original stateroom. Any opinions one way or the other? I realize that everyone is different and some would never sail without verandah and some couldn't care less. Hmm...darn Libra indecisiveness.

It really depends on your situation. If you can afford it the maybe. If not then definitely no. If this is a once in a lifetime cruise, then I would say go for it. If it isn't, then I would say no. You don't know if you will use the Verrandah or not. With only 4 days, there are plenty of spaces to relax outside, e.g. on deck 4, swimming pool, etc. Not to mention you will be in port and Castaway Cay. You'll also be going to all of the shows. If you find it is indispensable, then get it for next time. However, it is easier to upgrade to a Verrandah then it is to downgrade to an Oceanview given that you'll have certain expectations.

Worse comes to worse, at Port you can see if they can upgrade you to a Verrandah for less than $300.

My first Disney cruise was a 4-night Bahamian with my elderly mother, in a handicap-accessible verandah cabin at the back of deck 6. Its verandah was HUGE - but we couldn't have cared less. Waste of money, IMHO. My preference is to book the least expensive cabin, and enjoy longer or more frequent trips.

Think of all the things you could do with $300 instead of using it for a verandah.

I need a verandah. I personally need that acc ss to air at any point. For me, $300 well-spent.

I really appreciate all the great feedback! I didn't mention before as I didn't want it to sway responses, but I'll be celebrating my 45th birthday  while on board, and all things considered, we've decided to go for the verandah. We are parks people for sure, so I don't know if or when we'll be back on a cruise (famous last words, I'm sure!), and we do not have any excursions planned in Nassau as we'll be staying on the ship. My boys are the types that have trouble making gift lists for Christmas or birthdays because they feel they already have what they need/want (such good fellas!), so I don't at all worry about them having unrealistic expectations for future travel. I do picture having coffee out there in the morning while they are still snoozing, or spending time out there reflecting before bed, and that sounds like heaven to me. Really looking forward to our trip! Thanks again, everyone!

Sounds like you made a great choice for your family. I definitely used our balcony when I was waiting for my sons to be ready to leave the cabin. I think your boys will enjoy it too. If you get time, go out there just before you pull out of one of the ports. Depending on the view, that can be fun. Maybe see another ship, or people on the land, or just sit out there and watch the water and listen for the ship's horn to sound!

Sounds like a good decision. Hope you have a great trip! But I say Mom gets the big bed and the boys go in the bunks!

Be aware that depending on the cabin and sleeping arrangement, you may have a tight fit getting to the veranda while the bed is in use. Not much room to squeeze by. Enjoy the cruise and all that goes with it.

AKA the Pool Deck? Or Cabanas' outside eating area?

Yes, as well as the other open air decks one may enjoy. The ship wasn't specified but there is plenty of room to enjoy the ocean on all of the ships. Depending on the ship and deck some of the areas can be very nice. We've had a veranda for our cruises but we've always spent much more time on the public decks. Where we enjoyed ourselves often depended on the particular sights available at that time.

That is actually not a bad deal, but will your party be spending much time enjoying the veranda on a 4 day cruise, or doing other things on the ship? If you don't plan to spend a lot of time sitting on the veranda, save the $$ for something else.
