Have you had success making room requests?

I've only made room requests a few times, but it seems I always get the opposite of what I asked for. At the value resorts once I asked for a high floor facing the parking lost (quieter than the pool). How hard was this to do? I got first floor right in front of the pool.:confused3

At BWV I asked for high floor near the elevator. I got 2nd floor way down the hall. Not the end of the hall but pretty close.

I'm thinking of leaving that space blank on my online check in and just rolling the dice.

Requests are very dependent on what is available on the day you are checking in - obviously, they won't kick someone out so someone else can get a request.

IMO, getting a request is mostly just luck. Hope you get what you request for your next trip!

More generic requests are easier to grant. Once they turn specific, the odds rise against you.

I'm about 50/50 at BWV. I always book boardwalk view and request top floor, close to the elevator. I typically do get 3 or higher but not close to the elevator. The close to the elevator is a difficult one, there are only a small number of studios & 1 bedrooms close to the elevator for boardwalk view. Most are above Big River or Crest O the Wave. The first wing is garden view (Village Green), then Grand Villas take most of the next section.

Have you had success making room requests?

We have never had a problem with making a room request. Getting that request filled is another thing. :teeth:

It does seem that this is a situation that has worsened over the years. In the first several years of our membership, we almost always got our room requests. The past 6-7 years it seems much iffier and sometimes like the OP we tend to get the opposite of what we want.

I don't think that Disney is falling down on room assignments...I'll bet that the continued growth of the internet and sites like this have led to a dramatic rise in room requests. A CM told me a couple of years ago that it used to be fairly rare to get requests, and that now many of the reservations come with room location requests. Of course, that leads to many more disappointments than in years past. And unfortunately I have witnessed some really bad DVC member behavior on more than one occasion, berating the front desk for their room assignment.

As long as people understand the concept that it's just a request, then hopefully they will also understand that requests cannot always be met.

My last request, Congress Park, view of Disney Springs was met, and that , made my day! My last stay was at BLT, without any requests. Room and location were fine.

I think it also has to do with how common vs. uncommon the request is.

As example, it seems like everyone staying at BVW asks for "upper floor near the elevator." Consequently, as one poster here stated, many if not most don't get that.

We own at BWV and whenever I place an 11 months out boardwalk view reservation I always specifically ask for "upper floor as close to the Jellyrolls end of the building as possible." We have always gotten that, because it is contrarian (i.e. as far as possible from the elevator) to what most other people are requesting and also happens to have another huge benefit most people don't seem to be aware of (the closer to that end of the building your villa is, the better your view is of the Illuminations fireworks). :smooth:

You will find that room assigner CM's at the resorts are all different, some seem to care more than others. Some use the date that your reservation was made to prioritize who gets first choice. Others will only take your first request under consideration, "high floor, near elevator" = high floor. Others have a resort policy that they follow. Some will accept faxes, some won't. Some will give you their direct phone number, others don't want to talk to the guests and won't come out of the back room. Some are having a bad day, others work to fill as many requests as possible. Some resorts allow walk up guests to steal rooms already assigned, other resorts will tell you that nothing else is available.

We haven't had good luck with having requests met. Our rooms have generally been fine, but only once have we gotten what we asked for (rooms close to each other).

Our requests are never specific - high or low floor. Non smoking way back when that was a thing.

Thanks for all the replies. Turns out it was a non issue, online check in only gives one option - higher floor. I guess I'll just wait and see if I get any pixie dust. Checking in Oct 28 to a standard one bedroom only 33 days to go!

I've called Member Services and they've added my room request to the reservation. Not sure if it worked or I just get lucky. I've had great success with room requests that are high floor + certain direction of view.

We have had a mixed bag. We have usually had success in the general sense - high floor, sunset savanna etc. I have used the touring plans room finder/fax request a couple of times. This trip - as I sit on the balcony at Kidani - matched exactly - 7614. I agree that with more information we can have greater expectation. I was initially disappointed in our Jambo room assignment once, only to find it really was a great spot, and quite near the exact room I had requested. I’m still a proponent of putting in a request, as long as we remember it’s a wish list. My wife also likes to chat with a CM when we arrive at the resort just to feel out the situation. I don’t know that we’ve influenced the room assignment much, but at OKW we have had “I can put you in xxx now or yyy later”. We have also been told “you are in xxx but it is not ready yet”.

I would say more often than not we have been successful with requests, but ours are only general ones, like a certain section of OKW, or a list of three buildings. And there are times we don't make any requests. This last time though I gave two building numbers and first floor (we were traveling with someone for whom stairs are not an option) but felt the person assisting me was, shall we say, confused. So I called back later and found my reservation requests were incorrect. The new rep changed them, and when the trip came about we were indeed placed on the first floor in one of the buildings specified. There have been times we were placed in a different building but still the same general area, so were fine. Once we were in a totally different section, but any place down there is better than none!

I send my room requests in writing via e-mail through the member site about one month in advance of my stay and have had very good success (4 DVC stays).
