Please help me decide on ADRs

My family is heading down to WDW in January and staying in a cabin at Ft. Wilderness. Our party consists of my husband and I and our three kids (10, 7, and almost 2). We live in the south and my husband and kids are very meat and potatoes type of people. For our first trip with the kids, I chose things based on characters and menu and I vividly remember hating all of the traveling we did to get to different resorts. So since we're staying at Ft Wilderness, I decided to choose places that were at or close to our resort. Here's what we have so far for our 5 night trip.

Day 1 - arrive early (flight lands at 8:30am) and head to WS for FotA. Dinner ADR at Trails End.
Day 2 - MK in the morning and afternoon. Dinner ADR at Whispering Canyon Cafe
Day 3 - HS, basically all day. No ADRs, just QS.
Day 4 - EP in the morning and afternoon. HDDR at 4pm.
Day 5 - MK, basically all day. No ADRs, just QS.
Day 6 - Ohana breakfast, Disney Springs, then head to the airport.

So, we have Trails End, WCC, and HDDR. I was excited at first because it meant we wouldn't be doing a bunch of resort hopping and traveling around for dinner. But now I'm worried that we'll just be eating fried chicken all week. And I'm not that fond of fried chicken. My husband and kids say they don't mind and say they would love it, but I feel like they'll get sick of it.

Should we drop one of those ADRs? And if so, which one? We could take the boat to the Contemporary, but I'm not really excited about any of the dining options there.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and input!!

I completely get wanting to have ADR's close to where you are, but switching one out would give you a little variety (and a little less fried chicken). If you took a boat to CR, you could take the monorail to GF or Poly (you already have 'Ohana, but could do Kona). I haven't eaten anywhere at WL, so I can't give input about which one to drop.

We are heading down in January too! Hope you have a really good time! :)

We've eaten at all of those restaurants and I never had fried chicken at Trails End or WCC! They have more variety at those restaurants than you might think. I would keep them. The food is good at all of them and it keeps travel to a minimum.

I would switch it up a bit to places besides WL and Ft. Wilderness. Disney has a lot of great food options. As long as you stay close to the park you're in you won't be spending a lot of time in transit.

Here are my recs for each park:

Magic Kingdom:
- Crystal Palace
- The Plaza
- 1900 Park fare (it's in GF - boat ride or monorail away from MK)
- Grand Floridian Cafe (also a short monorail or boat ride from MK)
- Pecos Bill (QS)

Epcot:
- Rose and Crown
- Garden Grill (great character meal)
- Beaches & Cream (at Beach Club - a short walk from Epcot)

I don't have any recommendations for HS, but I would make some time to go to AK. Tusker House is a really good restaurant and AK is a really cool park :)

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks! We’ve eaten at most of those restaurants (some more than once). We’ve never done Beaches and Cream and I’ve been trying for weeks to get a reservation on one of our Epcot days, but haven’t had any luck so far. I’ll keep working on that one. I had a CP reservation, because it’s one of my favorites, but I canceled it because it was for dinner and I wasn’t sure my kids (especially the toddler) would still be up for being in the park at dinner time. Maybe I’ll look for a lunch or early dinner time.

As for AK, we’ve done it on our previous trips and none of us are really anxious to visit it again. At least not on this trip. We may decide to visit it on our next one (in 2020).

I would totally keep your. ADRs. You are articulate in why you are choosing this route, and I think you are right on
Enjoy!
