Hi All!

We will be staying at Aulani from 2/25 - 3/7. So far the forecast is calling for several wet and/or overcast days. What has been your experience with the weather while on the island? Will we still get our beach time or do we have to make other plans? Feeling pretty "over" the rain as we live in the PNW and get plenty already!

We are there at that time too..hoping for sun!

we are in a little rain spell right now but I think you'll find that most of the time by the water, the weather is nice and that a lot of the rain happens over night. Cross your fingers but be prepared. This is winter, it is the rainy season, and I feel like we've gotten a LOT of rain this winter. The entire drive out to aulani is beautiful and green. Usually it's brown and gross. So, that's a plus. Diamond head is fully green right to the top. Most of the year it's just dirt and rocks and brown.

Does it say showers. showers in Hawaii is an occasional delightful mist. They do have rain days in Oahu, but more often it is showers with high clouds, which is wonderful.

it's thundering and lighting and we have flash flood warnings today. its' going to be like this all week. It's not just showers that are showing in the forecast. I've n ever seen so many days of thunderstorms showing on the weather report. And currently it's only about 68.

We just got back from Aulani yesterday. We had one day of straight rain; we rented a car and went to the Bishop Museum in Honolulu and then out for lunch in Kapolei. Other days looked bad in the forecast during our stay, but the weather did improve. One morning it rained in Ko Olina but we drove out of it by the time we got to the Dole Plantation and the North Shore where it was sunny. When we returned to the resort in the afternoon it was sunny in Ko Olina. There were flash flood warnings the day we left for parts of the island.

I suggest bringing an umbrella or two, and light jackets or raincoats. The evenings were cool, mid-high 60s. Daytimes were low to high 70s, maybe low 80s. Everyone we spoke with said that there has been more rain this season than on average, but the predicted forecast changed frequently while we were there, so it's likely that by the time you travel the forecast will look much brighter. Fingers crossed, and have an amazing vacation!

even if the forecast calls for rain...quite often the west side (ewa beach through waianae, which includes aulani) will still be dry or at the very least lighter rain.

as an additional plus, the waterfalls are “fuller”...just gotta be extra careful hiking.

We've found that the weather conditions vary considerably over the island. If its raining on one part of the island it will be sunny elsewhere. You might be able to alter your plans for the day to hit the better weather.

We visited late January/early February and 3 days in a row the forecast was for thunderstorms all day long. In total it rained for only an hour one of the days. It was a mix of clouds with some sun the rest of the time. We were pleasantly surprised considering the forecast. We never left Aulani so I do not know what the weather was like on the rest of the island.

This is great info to read. We're considering a trip next January but knowing that that's in the rainy season has me nervous. I don't mean to hijack this thread for myself, but does anyone know if March is usually a drier month?

With the exception of the weekend of the punahou carnival (lately its the same as superbowl weekend) its possible that it could be tons of rain, or no rain any month...punahou carnival is garaunteed rain...lots of it...every year. If the pro bowl is in hawaii its garaunteed great weather during the game (and a little before and after)...it can be raining the whole week before and after pro bowl...but during the game...clear skies, and sunny...why these 2 things always seem to happen...no one knows.

Most historical weather data shows wetter than it really is for oahu in general because some areas rain a lot more than others (manoa, nuuanu, kailua, kaneohe...far more frequent rain) the side if the island with aulani is generally drier most of the time.

Also a lot of the time local news forecasts aren’t horribly accurate, and are for the island as a whole (i.e. “showers” can mean just kailua/kaneohe...but they won’t say that part a lot of the time)

There was also the time when hawaii beat the bible story about 40 days and night of rain...but the weather hasn’t even gotten close to approaching that level of sustained rain since then.

I’d only be concerned about having really bad weather if punahou (local private highschool) ever announced that their carnival was going to be a year round every weekend thing...cause then it’d be raining every weekend all year.
