2018 Princess Half Marathon

for the 5k, i'll be rapunzel and my best friend will be flynn... the 10k, we're doing pajama princesses - again i'm going with rapunzel, she'll be merida, and then the half we're doing themed shirts : they all say "half marathon, full princess" but mine is moana themed, hers is belle themed, and the other two with us are pocahontas and sleeping beauty. went out tonight and got the rest of the things i needed to pack! it's starting to get really real!

The 10K course is the same as Wine & Dine and the January 10K - it goes through Epcot and the Epcot Resorts area.

Wine and Dine 10K had a different course in 2017 FWIW (same one as Dark Side 2017 was that went through DHS/Boardwalk/Epcot)

Yeah I'm super excited for the shirts and hope they look even better in person... I'm even more excited that we will find out the gender of our baby on Wednesday before flying out... This will be a great race weekend! Let the count down to fun begin

I was in denial about the weight I had regained, and had a bit snit with skirtsports about the sizing of some shorts, and ended up getting a too-small flipbelt from them. And I could not stand it being on my body one millisecond longer, so I took it off. Whoops.

I see. I bought my Flipbelt from the expo, and they told me what size to get. I didn't like it, but I listened anyway!

Congratulations!

Regarding the course map...
Can anyone verify we are entering the MK via the main gate? We have never come in that way. We have always come in the side gate between the restaurant and hat store and made a right onto main street.

During marathon weekend, we entered through the main gate. I assume they'd do the same here since it worked well.

Sorry if this has been asked, but what is a safe time I should leave/arrive if I'm staying off property (in the Universal area)? I'm going to be meeting up with friends who are staying on property.

It's not the same course as Wine & Dine. W&D started in the MK parking lot and ended in Epcot. I ran that 10k, definitely a different course then this upcoming one. It might be the same as marathon weekend or star wars, I wasn't there for that.

My bad, I last ran Wine & Dine in 2016. It was the same course then.

anyone with more experience/better memories than me have an estimate for what the temps will be at 5:30 am if the high for the day is supposed to get up to 87 (according to weather dot com)?

I'm considering scrapping my costume because my tentacle leggings are long and not very breathable and I might want to wear running capris if it's going to be hot? le sigh

In the low- to mid- 70s in the morning. Probably right around 70 at 5:30am. The high usually peaks around mid-afternoon.

I was so sick with a URI during the 10K at W&D weekend that I had no idea that the course was different than the 10K at PHM, lol.

@xJenna - I think that depends on which corral you're in. I would aim for being at the pre-race area before 4:30am, since it's about a 20 minute walk to the corrals from there. I know most folks like to be there for the National Anthem and the start of the very first corrals, whereas others are perfectly content with rolling up to their corral just before they cross the start. It's all personal preference. If the weather was projected to be as cold as the PHM 5K in 2015, I'd say wait as long as possible (lol) to prevent any hypothermia or whatever, but since the weather is projected to be really nice, then I'd say it's up to you what you wanna do.

It will be humid and I think that will get to all those that trained in cold and/or dry weather. The humidity drops a bit right around sun rise...I usually notice the drop. Also coming up to the gas station around mile 7 or 8 the sun will be rising or up and we head right into it. Sunglasses or hat?
Really hoping the temps will drop to at least 60 early Sunday morning.

I just ran a race with almost the same weather conditions as projected for Sunday and a hat was far better than sunglasses. Humidity makes people super sweaty and the hat is great for funneling that away from your face lol

Ugh! My best temp to run in is around 40 degrees - might be a little warm for me  Fingers crossed for 60s at least.

I can't do sunglasses or a hat - I'm really touchy about things on my face / head. I know, it's weird, just always been that way.

I was too until I got my prescription Maui Jim sport sunglasses. They are so light weight I don't even notice I'm wearing them and it keeps me from squinting all the time.
ETA: I can't wear my normal prescription glasses, they annoy me when they start sliding down my nose, but with the sunglasses I can still see more than 5 feet in front of me. <blind>

I'm hoping it is a little cooler as well because humidity makes it feel hotter than it is. The projection for Sunday already went down a couple of degrees to be about 68 degrees at 5am.

I totally understand. I do sunglasses and a hat, but I am weird about anything moving, or dangling, or hitting me. That's why I don't run in costume, and it's a nightmare to find a belt that works.
