Where are we, Jersey? Bye, Phoenicians! An August 2017 TR * NEW DINING/TR LINKS*

So 2 parties ahead of us was a young couple, I'd say late 20's-early 30's, and their 2 kids who were under 4 and both in strollers. Behind them there was a guy in his mid to late 50's and he was talking to them, and talking to them and talking to them. Loudly. Mostly to the woman (mom) and he kept putting his hand on her shoulder and like, spinning her around to get her to listen to him. I assumed the were together but Cathy said no. Behind this guy were two young kids who looked 16 but must have been at least 21 (we find out later they are his son and son's gf). So 50's guy is getting louder and louder and it's obvious he's been on the La Cava line a few times :rolleyes1 and the couple in front of him, whom I still think are with him, are annoyed. Well all of a sudden he spins the GUY (dad) around and plants one on this man's lips! OK. Are they together :confused3
Then 5 minutes later he puts both hands on the mom's shoulders, turns her half way around and kisses her cheek loud and long. The dad-guy looks PISSED and I realize Cathy is correct and they are not together.
50's guy would have had a swift kick to the family jewels a long time ago from me

Then the CM manager, a young, very tiny woman goes up to 50's man and we hear her tell him that this will be his last round of shots :drinking1and those 3 go in.
I think his last round of shots should have been two rounds ago

Within I swear, 30 seconds 50's man is at the bar starting a fight with a guy in his 20's wearing full on Eagles gear about how bad the Eagles suck (this was 2 nights before the Super Bowl). And in the next 30 seconds 50's man said "bulls*#$" about 10 times SO loud. So over comes the tiny manager lady, taps him on the shoulder, and tells him he has to leave. He does not listen. The manager then attempts to tell his son/son's gf that they need to leave but they begin to yell at her asking why and saying it's discrimination. Maybe age-ism? I don't know, he was a total white man from middle America from the sound of it so not sure what they were getting at. Discriminating against drunks acting like a-holes, yes definitely. 50's man then turns around and starts arguing with the manager, another small female CM hostess has now come over. The manager is really keeping her cool while we're all looking on and all of a sudden- OMG I still can't believe he did this - 50's man TAKES HIS FINGER, AND POKES THE MANAGER IN THE FOREHEAD. RIGHT ON THE FOREHEAD. Like pushes her back almost. Holy crap Cathy and I both did a deep unbelieving inhale, one of the male bartenders came from around the bar and then these 3 walked out. But, but then the manager starts yelling at 50's man to come back because he needed to wait for security to escort him out of the park, what??? Like he's going to wait, lady he just poked you in the head. Cathy and I felt for her because CM's should not have to put up with this but how can you then tell a guest to stay put in order to be kicked out? See my above comment in pink,
OMG! I think they need to have security closer to the Mexico pavilion. All of the problems I hear about seem to come from there.

Magner's Pear Cider
Looking forward to trying this next week!

Wow that's so crazy and scary and yet like a train wreck you can't look away from :scared:
Magner's Pear Cider sounds really good
Love listening to the British Revolution but I miss Beatles band

My granddaughter and grandson loved ETwB
I was surprised how much I enjoyed it, I'd forgotten! We just did it the one time right after it opened.

I am curious to hear how crowded it is. I was suggesting our next trip to be a month later. So we can do Flower and Garden. But we will see.
Um, I think it's going to be........................crowded. But I still think you should plan to do F&G because it's amazing! Check when Easter is next year and plan around that. It doesn't change college spring breaks but if you avoid the weeks before and after Easter crowds will still be manageable.

WHOA that drunk guy :crazy2: I'm surprised neither half of that couple clocked him honestly
I was surprised too! Honestly this is what I think: either 1. they didn't speak English and weren't quite sure what was going on or 2. it was maybe their first visit?
And they didn't want any trouble? They also did have the two small kids with them in the stroller so maybe they didn't want to do anything that might cause a scene.......but I guarantee if a strange man kissed me Steve would not just stand there!

I am just going to say like you guys were more focused on liquid food than actual food! But I like it.
lol yes we were!

Wait!?! I don't understand how this story didn't end here and how this couple didn't get out of line and go complain to someone right then and there!?!!? And how did that woman not slap him in the face!!! Or how did the husband not punch him?!?! I am baffled by your story already?!!? I mean I know people love there avocado margaritas but...
I know, it went on FAR too long :( Like I said above I think maybe they didn't speak English and were confused as to why these jacked up Americans were acting this way; or they just didn't want to make a scene since they had their kids. Or maybe like you say they just REALLY wanted a margarita and nothing was going to stop them lol!

I really thought you were going to say that he hit her or kissed her. One of the two. Which kind of makes the poke seem tame
True. I think what was so surprising about the poke, even though when you hear it out loud it seems preferable to a kiss and definitely to a hit, is that it was a CM he poked. Not that they're any better than us but, you just don't see CM's getting touched! At least not in an aggressive way. And we weren't sure he was going to stop with the poke, either. The whole thing was just surreal!

I am afraid to try this!!! I need to, though! I tried a margarita at the outside pavilion this past trip. Andy wants to eat at the restaurant inside. maybe then...
I was the same way! It sounded SO not appetizing to me but with all the positive reviews here I knew I wouldn't be happy until I tried it and now I'm so glad I did. Worst case scenario you waste a few bucks because you don't like it, and you move on to something else. I know throwing away $$ isn't easy but hey, you're already spending big bucks down there, what's a few more on a drink you don't finish

What is up with the wait times? It seemed like everything had high wait times and I felt like a lot were actually lower wait. Are they trying to make it a nice surprise that you didn't wait as long as it says?
I've long heard of them inflating wait times, especially at the end of the night to deter people from getting in line. We found this a few times on our two days there and even on family trips we find this to be the case as the parks are getting near closing time.

OMG! The stories...Being the wuss I am, I would have high tailed it out of there, but not before uttering a few curse words myself...The nerve of some drunks!!!
It was too bad/interesting/unbelievable to walk away from!

It sounds so fresh, I really want to try it. Maybe I’ll make Chad get it and I can try it that way without fully committing!
You should, because you've been wanting to try it for like a year now

Please do not feel horrible, you were a welcome distraction!!!!

We should just start a think that instead of saying left its margarita and instead of right its slush. Seems much simpler :drinking1
OMG I love this. I'm using it!

hat is crazy!!!! I hope my husband would not look pissed and would instead just punch the guy out. Beyond ridiculous.
I know Steve would have done more than just stand there; his Bronx would have been on full display lol!

How on earth did they let this go on for so long without calling security? I really am shocked they didn't try and restrain him in some way after that.
I was too. But then Cathy told me that when she was down there in Oct. wit her husband, they wanted to get the PP pic when you come off BTMRR. The photographer was there but there was a big party of people standing on the "spot" you stand on to get the picture. Cathy told the PP photographer they wanted the picture and he told them he'd love to take it but the people were in the way. Cathy said, "can't you ask them to move?" and he said no! They aren't allowed to ask people to move, even if they're in the picture spot! He told Cathy SHE could ask them to move so that's exactly what she did. Anyway if they can't even ask guests to take a step back so they can do their job, I supposed it's a stretch to assume they'll call security ahead of time or let staff restrain anyone :sad2:

And for the record our personal chef consultant says za'atar is a blend of middle easter spices but there is generally no consensus on what they need to be.
Well tell your personal chef consultant thank you :D

1. Amazing you got a free shot
I kept expecting him to ask me to pay for it! Maybe he thought I reminded him of his mom lol

We so have to try this in August. Sounds like something I'd love (both the music and drinks)
Ask and we shall do :thumbsup2

50's guy would have had a swift kick to the family jewels a long time ago from me
:rotfl2: I don't even think he would have felt it at this point

Looking forward to trying this next week!
Ooh, lucky! Have a wonderful time :goodvibes

Love listening to the British Revolution but I miss Beatles band
I missed them when they first left but now I'm used to British Revolution. I'm glad they do a couple different sets but I wish they'd change one of them up.

Wow that's so crazy and scary and yet like a train wreck you can't look away from :scared:
Exactly what it was like, a train wreck! Like a car accident on the side of the road, you can't help but slow down and look as you go by........

Hey There, :) Looks like this might be a TR I need to be in on. Can't guarantee I'll keep up or comment regularly, but I am subbing in and reading. I'll pick it up here....

You should, because you've been wanting to try it for like a year now
I'm just not a huge banana fan so I don't know how it will go down.....but I'm willing to make an attempt at it! :) However, it will be awhile bc June is only MK and October may only be MK but if it is another park, I'm guessing we go with DHS (which I am pulling for bc of TSL) or AK (because Chad will want to ride FoP again and introduce it to his son and gf, if they decide to tag along).

That is crazy!!!! I hope my husband would not look pissed and would instead just punch the guy out. Beyond ridiculous.

Um, I think it's going to be........................crowded. But I still think you should plan to do F&G because it's amazing! Check when Easter is next year and plan around that. It doesn't change college spring breaks but if you avoid the weeks before and after Easter crowds will still be manageable.
This is my problem, the girls spring break is always the week AFTER Easter. I would love to take advantage of the going with them not missing school. But I don't know if I can deal with the crowds.

Maybe End of Feb beginning of March.... We will see. I mentioned on @kastoney's thread that I am currently playing the game with Andy of waiting I am waiting for Andy to brin gum the next trip so it feels like "his" idea. (Even though in my head I am already plotting our next trip!)

The whole thing was just surreal!
I can only image. Crazy!

Yikes, while I had anticipated an "interesting" story given the clues you gave us before, I had NEVER imagined quite this level of poking! I am speechless!

Aside from Mr. Pokey, sounds like a lovely evening doing what I love most: wandering, eating, and drinking around WS :cloud9:

Hey There, :) Looks like this might be a TR I need to be in on. Can't guarantee I'll keep up or comment regularly, but I am subbing in and reading. I'll pick it up here....
Hi and :welcome: I've seen you around these parts and I'm glad to have you here! I totally understand not commenting regularly, I've been absolutely horrible at keeping up on all my DIS friends' reports the last few months.

I'm just not a huge banana fan so I don't know how it will go down.....but I'm willing to make an attempt at it!
Funny you mention that. When Cathy tried it for the first time earlier this month I told her some people say it tastes faintly like banana (I barely detect banana in it). She didn't seem to think so at all, so I think it varies from person to person. You might not taste anything like banana!

This is my problem, the girls spring break is always the week AFTER Easter
Yeah.....that week is a little busier than the week before  Well I'll let you know how the week before is this year and if it's absolutely horrendous than you'll know you definitely don't want to do the week after lol

That's so awful and crazy but also hilarious.
Yes! So bad but so unbelievable and just a tad funny.

Yikes, while I had anticipated an "interesting" story given the clues you gave us before, I had NEVER imagined quite this level of poking! I am speechless!
I now it's not as horrible as actually hitting or anything but you just don't see guests TOUCHING CM's! Totally didn't expect it to happen at all. But hey, even us regulars like to say after all our trips we still haven't seen everything

Aside from Mr. Pokey, sounds like a lovely evening doing what I love most: wandering, eating, and drinking around WS :cloud9:
We did have a really good day/night. So very relaxing and a great start to our trip!

Hi guys! I'm back to start day two of our trip. Day two is also our last Disney day unfortunately, but lucky for me I'll be back in Disney exactly 30 days from today!!!

DAY TWO PART 1: HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS
Our plan today was to arrive at HS as close to RD as possible, since it was our last day in Disney. Opening was 9 and I had suggested getting there by 8:30 which was great in theory. Unfortunately - well, actually it was a good thing - I had to do some work and because the wifi SUCKED, it took me over an hour to do what should have taken 15 minutes. :furious: I ate a Cliff bar, Cathy ate nothing, and we were at the bus stop by 8:55. Then we watched the time on the screen that shows when the bus is coming for HS get later and later, and we were walking into the park at 9:40. Close to RD, right?

IMG_7960.JPG

Our first FP was for Rock n Roller Coaster which Cathy had ridden before and likes. *Let me say here that I have Cathy's full permission to post these pictures and on top of that her and I text just about every day, so if anyone who is not a regular reader of mine comes across this and feels the need to complain to someone that I've posted a picture of a person
without their permission........Cathy will yell at you for being a jerk. And if any of you are wondering why I've included this disclaimer here, it's because not everyone on the DIS is cool*

Without further ado, here we are!

cathyrnr.jpg

Wheeeeeee! I'm having so much fun!!!!!

And speaking of fun, one always thinks of Wappingers Falls, NY when one thinks of great music:

IMG_7963.JPG

Next was something I could NOT wait for; Cathy's first time riding TOT! I think I wrote this already but, on our TA training trip to Universal last year when we met for the first time, I got Cathy to ride Dr. Doom's Fearfall. She was terrified but she did it! And when we got off I told her if we were ever in HS together she HAD to ride TOT with me to which I received an emphatic NO. Well, once this trip was a definite I repeatedly told her I wasn't letting her get to Universal without riding TOT, and she was very brave and guess what?

cathytot.jpg

She liked it! Maybe not as much as the guy in the red shirt, but she liked it :rotfl2:
She even wanted to ride again but the wait was 40 minutes when we got out and I said.....no. Even though it's totally my favorite ride..........no. Waits for everything were nuts and there were absolutely no FP's to be gotten for anything except Muppets and Fantasmic but we had other plans for the night. Since we hadn't eaten we decided to find some QS food which I really wasn't excited about. However on our way Cathy noticed on FB that two fellow agents were heading in the Frozen sing-a-long and since we were about to walk by, we went in. I was fine with this since I've only seen it once and couldn't even remember most of it.
It was cute! Cathy had just seen it in Oct. and wasn't happy that nobody was singing this time lol. We happened to sit right by the other agents so we all said hello (we'd never met before) and THEN we went to find food.

As most of us know, HS isn't known for great QS options. However we had dinner plans and so we didn't want to fill up. I let Cathy pick where we ate and she picked Backlot Express. I don't think I'd eaten there since the boys were small!
We both went with a kids meal but probably the most interesting kids meal on the menu:

  • Dark Side Chicken and Waffles: Chicken and Vader Waffles with Maple Syrup -

IMG_7962.JPG

The chicken nuggets were nugget perfection as always as were the fries, and the vader waffle was delicious! This was the perfect little meal to keep us from starving until dinner but not fill us up. I'd definitely get this again, it's probably the best QS meal I've had in HS!
After lunch we were finished with HS since lines were still crazy long and there were still no FP's to be had. Our plans for later were bringing us to AK so we'd also tried to get a decent 4th FP over there for anything and that was a big NOPE. ITTBAB and PW, that was it. I have the worst luck with getting additional FP's after my 3 regardless of whom I'm with but this also attests to how crowded it was this weekend! We even tried MK and Epcot just for the heck of it figuring we'd make a detour either place before AK to ride a ride or two but you couldn't get a FP for anything worth it, so we headed out of HS towards the AK bus stop.

On a wall on our way out we saw this:

IMG_7965.JPG

It was on a construction wall and shows the path of the Gondolas. Which I will never be riding, FYI.

UP NEXT, DAY TWO PART 2, OUR TIME IN AK!

Love me some RnR and ToT!

As most of us know, HS isn't known for great QS options. However we had dinner plans and so we didn't want to fill up. I let Cathy pick where we ate and she picked Backlot Express.

Yep! We've not tried Backlot before, though.

The chicken nuggets were nugget perfection as always as were the fries, and the vader waffle was delicious! This was the perfect little meal to keep us from starving until dinner but no

But I think we will now. The boys would love this meal. In fact, all 4 of us would. With what the boys would have left over, Clint and I would have plenty. ( we like to eat )

It was on a construction wall and shows the path of the Gondolas. Which I will never be riding, FYI.

I would love to try them out. But I don't see us getting on them. At least not with Dallas. He's terrified of heights.

Let me say here that I have Cathy's full permission to post these pictures and on top of that her and I text just about every day, so if anyone who is not a regular reader of mine comes across this and feels the need to complain to someone that I've posted a picture of a person
without their permission........Cathy will yell at you for being a jerk. And if any of you are wondering why I've included this disclaimer here, it's because not everyone on the DIS is cool*

Yikes…this doesn't sound good, at all:sad2:

She liked it! Maybe not as much as the guy in the red shirt, but she liked it :rotfl2:

OMG, I thought that guys was part of the picture! He's perfect :rotfl:

I have the worst luck with getting additional FP's after my 3 regardless of whom I'm with

Same. I don't understand how all these people do it.

It was on a construction wall and shows the path of the Gondolas. Which I will never be riding, FYI.

Nope. Me neither…I don't think…well, maybe…if the kids make me!

OK so I'm finally getting back to your TR and just shaking my head at some of your stories, especially Pokey guy. WTH? That's crazy.

So since I'm a fan of cider, and you said the Pear Cider isn't too sweet (which is good) and I'm not sure I've had one...now I must make sure to find that next time.

Love the photos and glad Cathy enjoyed the rides!

I think I had other comments while I was reading but I'm too old and lazy to go back and try to remember them. Just know that I enjoy reading and carry on...waiting for the next installment and hoping you give me motivation to start my Dec TR installments in my TR now! :)

we were at the bus stop by 8:55. Then we watched the time on the screen that shows when the bus is coming for HS get later and later
Sounds like a trip report update that I just wrote! LOL

*Let me say here that I have Cathy's full permission to post these pictures and on top of that her and I text just about every day, so if anyone who is not a regular reader of mine comes across this and feels the need to complain to someone that I've posted a picture of a person

I can't believe you even have to post this. Have you personally encountered any uncool people here on the Dis lately? I mean, I know there are some, but I'm nosy and am wondering what prompted this. LOL

Without further ado, here we are!

cathyrnr-jpg.304046

Wheeeeeee! I'm having so much fun!!!!!
Love it!!

And speaking of fun, one always thinks of Wappingers Falls, NY when one thinks of great music:

img_7963-jpg.304050
So cool!

she was very brave and guess what?

cathytot-jpg.304047

She liked it! Maybe not as much as the guy in the red shirt, but she liked it :rotfl2:
OMG, that man looks like he is standing up...

she picked Backlot Express.
This is where we ate as well on our first HS night this past June. We enjoyed it. I got the Caprese Sandwich and it was excellent.

I have the worst luck with getting additional FP's after my 3
Have you tried the modify-then refresh trick? I've been practicing with it lately trying to see what we might get as additionals on our one lonely sad park day in June. LOL

It was on a construction wall and shows the path of the Gondolas. Which I will never be riding, FYI.
Looks so cool. I saw some more concept art photos today. I will most definitely be trying it!

First off can't believe how close our trips are :cool1:
Love the ride photos of both RnRC and ToT
Ok was the guy in the red shirt standing :rotfl:

The chicken nuggets were nugget perfection as always as were the fries, and the vader waffle was delicious! This was the perfect little meal to keep us from starving until dinner but not fill us up.

When you said you got a QS lunch, I thought you were going to say you got the fried green tomato sandwich! I know one of the QS options at HS has one now, and I've heard it's pretty good.

Which I will never be riding, FYI.

Same.

Totally didn't expect it to happen at all. But hey, even us regulars like to say after all our trips we still haven't seen everything
So true!

lucky for me I'll be back in Disney exactly 30 days from today!!!
Woohoo!!!!!!

And if any of you are wondering why I've included this disclaimer here, it's because not everyone on the DIS is cool*
Ugh. I think everyone needs to pass a cool test before they are allowed to be on the Dis :thumbsup2 Clearly the two of us would pass with flying colors :snooty:

cathyrnr-jpg.304046

Wheeeeeee! I'm having so much fun!!!!!
Amazing!!! I mean this as the most sincere compliment - you look like a teenager!

cathytot-jpg.304047

She liked it! Maybe not as much as the guy in the red shirt, but she liked it :rotfl2:
:rotfl: That just made my day!

As most of us know, HS isn't known for great QS options.
Wait, what, really? :rotfl2:

Dark Side Chicken and Waffles: Chicken and Vader Waffles with Maple Syrup -

This was the perfect little meal to keep us from starving until dinner but not fill us up. I'd definitely get this again, it's probably the best QS meal I've had in HS!
I need to keep this in mind! I always struggle to find something I really like at QS at HS.

Ugh on the FP situation - hopefully AK wasn't a you-know-what show that night and you got some good rides in :thumbsup2

Ummm, I will NEVER be riding the gondolas right along with you. I don't trust a pulley system waaaaay up in the sky to pull me miles and miles, from 1 destination to the next. That's a BIG NO THANK YOU!!!!!

And, you're right, there are some not so cool people here on the DIS. (Of course, I'm not one of them).:rotfl2:

I wonder why the parks were soooooo crowded? Oh wait! I know why...there's never a down time anymore...:confused3

Sounds like a good morning. Minus the wait for the bus and slow internet service.

Seriously, it was just so busy when we were there!

Still haven't made it on Tower of Terror yet! The wait was just too long. :(

I was going to go to Backlot Express for Lunch but we were on the wrong side of the park at the time. So, no Chicken and Waffles for us.
