Connecting Rooms

Are they pretty much impossible to get?

My parents want to take their kids (me being one of them) and grandkids on a cruise next summer. We are looking at late June-early August on the oasis class to the caribbean. I am having a hard time finding rooms near each other let along connecting rooms. Are they the first to go usually?

Also on RCCL is it usually cheaper to get 2 rooms vs one bigger one that holds 6? There are 23 of us total. We would need 5-7 rooms depending on if the two families of 6 get one or two rooms.

I can't believe a year and a half out and we would have this much trouble finding rooms. The cruise I am currently looking at only has 2 ocean balcony rooms available.

Getting connecting rooms can be difficult in terms of how many each rooms sleeps. With Royal you will find that getting 2 connecting rooms that each sleep 3 or 4 is almost non-existent. Most of the pairs sleep 2/3 or 2/4, or 2/2.

You may want to contact a travel agency for this. The sponsor of these boards Dreams Unlimited Travel books Royal Caribbean.

So that is why when I put 2 rooms of 3 they don't give me connecting room options? We could do a 4 and 2. I was going to eventually contact my TA for help but kind of wanted to narrow down my options first.

Thanks

I'd let your TA do the heavy lifting, to be honest. We do a similar generational cruise (my parents, siblings and our kids) and while that only adds up to 13 of us our TA is very good at getting us rooms close together. And if she sees connecting rooms for a couple hundred more than 2 separate, she'll get those for us.

You could try calling and booking the rooms on the phone with Royal. I did that, I was struggling to find what I needed on their website and the guy on the phone was able to find us two rooms next to each other

Royal’s website is not very user-friendly when trying to search for specific rooms. It is especially frustrating to get thier website to show you connecting rooms.

One thing I have found helpful is to use a TA website to see ALL available rooms. Costco’s site works well for this. If you see rooms you like on Costco’s site, but don’t necessarily want to book with them, you can call Royal and book those specific room numbers over the phone.

The connecting rooms are often unavailable online. I think some cruise lines will hold them back to avoid having people book one without the other. I usually prefer to book vacations myself, but every cruise we have taken with connecting cabins has been booked either through a travel agent or by calling the cruise line directly. It helps to be flexible with room categories and party configurations. Don't assume they are booked until the cruise line reservations department and at least two other travel agencies have both said there are none available.

There are some family rooms on Royal- that sleep 6- But you can only book rooms up to 4 people on website- other than that you need to call.
