Pete is right about lack of merchandise for men

I can agree, but I also guess men don’t shop as much either?

I can tell you I totally don’t buy any kind of merchandise at Disney...it’s just not for me. I love my pictures :)

Back in the late eighties and nineties, Harrington Clothiers in Disney Village sold high quality Disney themed clothes for men. I still have a couple of button down dress shirts with Mickey on the left upper panel. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your point of view, they are huge on me these days so they got handed down to my son in law. They still look good.

This is certainly true. If you go into any mall anywhere, the vast majority of stores and merchandise are targeting female shoppers - clothing, jewelry, accessories, perfume, shoes, etc. But you can still walk into any mall anywhere and find an ample selection of men's wear from basic casual stuff like t-shirts and jeans to mid-range stuff like slacks and polo shirts to dressy stuff like button down shirts, ties, and suits. Disney is seriously lacking on the men's side.

I do agree that men shop less than women but less doesn't mean none. I don't think there will ever be merchandise parity but the lack of any stuff for men is a bit odd. I normally wear either a shirt and tie or polo shirt to work. I'd love a few nice Mickey polos, especially moisture wicking ones since most polo days I hit the gym or pool at lunch.

They used to have a nice variety of ties but recently they have had a rack of 4 or 5.

You know who does buy clothing though, the parents of boys. We may not buy as many costumes as parentspof girls but shirts, hats, and shorts? Yep. As much as the marriage of parks and merchandising kind of annoys me I'm hoping at least there will be a bit more research and better offerings.

The only reason I don't buy more costumes is the lack of variety. My boys LOVE dressing up as their favorite characters. I wish they had more for boys.

App just now saw in a second place they are discontinuing twenty-eight and Main due to it not selling well

Haven’t been able to confirm beyond those two separate reports but if true that means even less clothing for me

Very disappointing to hear this although I wouldn't be surprised. When I went in a couple of weeks ago, there was a definite shift in merchandise. Gone were most of the distressed retro shirts. Maybe they were seen as too expensive, but the quality was better than the average disney tee shirt. I'll occasionally buy a shirt at the parks now, but it's like finding a diamond in the rough.

Hopefully one of these days it will occur to someone at Disney that the reason the stuff isn't selling is that it isn't the stuff guys are looking for.

Give us something nicer than a logo t-shirt, something we can wear when we don't want to look like college kids but still want to show our Disney side. And do it at a price that isn't 4 times what comparable non-Disney merchandise sells for.

I think cost is a big aspect as even if I see a polo or something that looks nice, no way am I paying $60 or whatever

So then people don’t buy it and then Disney figures, welp, guys don’t want anything

Price point it to make a fan/follower proud to wear it. I don't need to be braggadocios on how much a shirt/shorts/shoes costs me, rather I want to be proud to be a walking billboard for something I enjoy.

Definitely. I know I can get a good quality non-designer polo shirt any number of places for about $20. I fully expect a Disney polo to run me $45 and I would be happy to pay that price. But that merchandise just doesn't currently exist. They do have one or two polos with the little embroidered Mickey on it but they are $60. I'm not paying that either.

Mickey Nike Polos are back! Red, Blue and Black for $65. There’s also a runDisney Nike Polo for $65.

I think the ones I bought in January were $90 with a solid white Mickey logo. They a different style of Nike Polo.

There’s also a couple $45 polos.

On the app? I'll have to look. Hopefully something other than the plain little Mickey logo.

ETA: Nope, just the same old Mickey. Also a couple of Star Wars ones which I don't want (not a Star Wars fan). Darn.

I also always end up buying what are labeled as "male style" t-shirts. I am a larger person, and don't like the snug fits, shorter arms, and "tank top" looks of a LOT of the "female style" t-shirts. Disney has also gone up and down in huge waves over the years with the availability of larger sizes even being available - especially in being a large selection of different designs. Right now they are about "fair to middlin'" - but could be better.

My wife always buys men's t-shirts. Women's clothing is primarily designed for fashion. Men's clothing is designed for comfort and durability. The material is typically better quality, not the flimsy sheer stuff the women's shirts are made from. The ladies stuff tends to be the thin stretchy material designed to be form-fitting, and often has a lower cut neckline. The men's stuff is standard t-shirt design with a crew neck and regular fit.
