Disneyland show?

I respectfully disagree, I can think of multiple instances where something was brought up on the boards and an adjustment to the shows were made almost immediately. For example bringing Ryno back into the studio rather than splitting earbuds with Steve in the park, changing the way they did the voting for the best and worst, or shortening the introduction of the weekly lineup after it started to hit 10-12 minutes, and better mics/audio for the dining show.
Heidi started an absolutely lovely thread about the main show this week and she was right. It was top notch. The cast comprised multiple ex CMs, they are long term WDW fans and they all came well prepared. John read each news story and the discussion followed each story. John gave a very relevant and detailed update to booking 2019. Corey shared something I didn’t know. Ryno did a fantastic job on the production side, the video and audio were perfect and he provided his own assistant. The discussion segment was also good and multiple people clearly had taken the time to read the article before the show. They were passionate and engaged and had wild suggestions of their own. It was live so all info was very up to date.
Why do we ask for the exact same thing (that we once had and had nothing for 6 months), a full cast of experienced experts, news segments, discussion, prepared and engaged and we are told to “stop watching?”
Why do WDW fans come and indicate we are just ungrateful for asking for even a piece of the things they get every week?
PS The DL B&W this week is miscategorized as unlisted on YouTube so it’s not showing. Should we bring it to your attention or just go away and hope you magically fix it?

How is that odd? Someone is criticizing me for explaining why Pete made a decision and I thought the saying was don’t shoot the messenger. Plus, most people then change their thoughts and minds when they know it comes from Pete because they respect him so much. The fact is, and please take me at my word on this, if you’re unhappy with the Disneyland Show, the best way to voice your opinion is by not watching or listening. Numbers sometimes speak louder than words.

Ah I thought it was odd that someone wouldn't criticize the show directly to Pete in person, I would personally have no problem doing that myself. I'm still only listening to the podcast version and I consider this show on podcast episodes 1 and 2. I will definitely give it a few months as it is a brand new format, if you go back and listen to episodes 1-5 of pretty much any podcast it is usually a mess. After that if it doesn't improve I'll voice my opinion and move on.

Craig I hope you’re having a fantastic time in Alaska. I apologize if I came across as a bit snappy, it’s been a long six months with little content and issues with the iTunes feed.
I’m a little surprised that the Walt Disney World fans would come in and be critical of us and I was reacting more to that.

Welcome to a Florida travel company's infomercial to sell you on a trip to Disneyland... That's what it sounds like to me.. NOT GREAT..

Pete, you are correct, Disneyland is a AP heavy park and the show before was an AP heavy listener base and you just alienated us from our show. Thanks a lot.

Florida will always be so jealous of WALT'S ORIGINAL MAGIC KINGDOM!!! Make the Disneyland Show Great Again and at least bring in the previous cast!

That. Pete has always been forthcoming he owns a travel company as a matter of full disclosure. I highly respected that and honestly I don’t think it’s ever affected his decision making negativity before, in this case I think it has.
DL vets just don’t use travel agents because we aren’t usually staying on property. The prices for GNH through Disney are way off. My recent trip I stayed off-property in a suite with a fireworks view for $550 for all four nights including breakfast and parking. It was just a promo from Hilton. I am not sure if there is an opportunity for Dreams to put together deals with GNHs directly. We don’t have to book FPs and for dining we call a CM a week or two before and can get basically anything we want.
I am disappointed but I don’t blame him. He is a business man and targeting the WDW fan base who would need extra help on a first DL trip makes more sense. I know this and have to just it be.

Oddly enough as a nearly 40 year fan of WDW having made well over 60 trips to WDW the old Disneyland podcast was a huge influence in us making our first trip to DL. Not only that but once there we knew where we wanted to eat, all about the Max Pass and even some ideas on seeing other parts of the city.

Feeling like we were hearing about DL from people that knew it inside and out gave us a huge trust factor in the advice they provided.

"Our show"

The entitlement is pretty heavy here, huh?

IT was "our show." It was a Disneyland Show. not a show of WDW people talking about Disneyland. It was DL people talking to other DL people about DL... Just like the WDW show is WDW people talking about WDW to other WDW people. What makes that so entitled?

They could have easily keep the show (and its crew) and added a second monthly show for the WDW people to tell us everything that is different at DL from WDW.

I think the Tom and crew should start their own podcast. There was something so great about listening to people talk about DL with such passion and love, just the same way that Pete and crew talk about WDW.

Did you do a trip report? I find first time visitors reports fascinating!
No. I do everything on a phone and that much typing on this small keyboard is a no no in my book. I can say we loved the trip. It was like going to the WDW of my childhood in many ways. Thanks to the old team we loaded up on breakfast burritos from the Taqueria which may have been the best deal we found.

I didn’t feel as though the parks flowed as well as WDW as there seemed to be a lot of dead end areas and Downtown Disney is pretty sad compared to Disney Springs but we are already planning a trip next year to see the Halloween decorations.

Just wanted to say that I enjoyed the Snack Time at Pixar Pier video. I really prefer video content that is in the park and shows some action more than a round table of people talking. I also like the shorter videos that are easier to fit into my schedule. I don’t think I will be listening to the podcast on iTunes anymore until I hear that things improve which is sad for me to say, but I don’t have a lot of time to waste on things that are not enjoyable to me. I will continue to tune in to the in park videos.:goodvibes

ETA: I also enjoyed the review of Lamplight Lounge. I do really like Tyler and Katrina and wanted to say that my disappointment in the podcast has nothing to do with them. I think they are a fun addition to the team. I’m just missing the rest of the DL team and the solid contributions they make to the show with their knowledge and expertise.

I don’t want to step into arguments about ownership and entitlement, but I DO echo the sense that the “you/your/their/our there” perspective on Disneyland is off-putting enough that I stopped listening and am looking for other DL podcasts. It sounds like a podcast for people who have never been to DL. I want a local perspective on a local’s park.

I still enjoy The DIS and appreciate the site and these forums. I’m not a hater by any means. But this podcast isn’t working, at least for me.

I really miss the “old” Disneyland team podcast... In fact, it was from that show that I went out to CA to see DL for the first time. Also, all of Mary Jo’s day 6 series podcast helped plan our trip to see Yosemite, Reagan’s Library and San Capristrano. Needless to say, we fell in love with Yosemite and went again this year. I truly loved listening to the team. Podcasts might have the same name but they are not the same without the original team. I am sad to say that it doesn’t hold my interest anymore.

I’m not trying to have an attitude or shift my feelings when I said don’t watch or listen. I’m just pointing out the facts. Pete relies on me to deliver feedback on the shows that is written on the boards and YouTube and I do, but he looks at numbers. I’m just being honest here, and if it sounds negative I apologize, but as a person involved in the situation, Pete is very happy with the topics being discussed, the production, and the current and future talent involved. Your opinions are seen and heard by me. When our criticisms are backed up by your feedback, we are able to make changes, but this is a different situation. I truly do hope you all watch, listen, and enjoy, but if you are unhappy, I’m just trying to let you know how you can voice your opinion most effectively in regards to this show.

My general thoughts:

  • I miss the fun banter that used to go on between Tom and Tony. Bring Tony back into the mix once in awhile and have him do some news segments because whenever he would report Disneyland-related news, it would always make me laugh but I got information from it, too.
  • You could mix it up with the food review segments in the future....have Tom & Tony do 'in the park' reviews kind of like the 2 new folks did with the Pixar Pier food review in this most recent episode.
  • Every year for March Madness, Tom Bell used to set up this fun Facebook poll that related to Disneyland stuff. It was so much fun every week listening in to what had advanced to the next round of voting. One year, they did rides. Another year, I think it was hotels and restaurants. You guys could do that on the WDW podcast, too.
  • I always enjoyed the episodes where they had a Dreams Unlimited Travel customer go on the Disneyland show and the DL podcast team would help them put together a general day by day park touring plan. I found those episodes to be very helpful when I was planning our own family's trips. Then after the person's trip was done, he or she would go back to the podcast and report in on how the trip went.
  • I don't live in southern CA and I don't have a DL AP. But I have several friends in So Cal who ARE AP holders and the DL edition of the DIS Unplugged used to be my biggest source of Disneyland news. There are SO many podcasts and wdwinfo.com articles about new stuff going on at DL that I have forwarded to those friends over the past few years. Please continue with the news segments because that's been SO helpful to a lot of them! :-)
  • That video that you guys did recently about all the reasons you love Disneyland...that was so well done, so amazing. The part where Charles was talking about his first time at Disneyland made my eyes sweaty with respect! And when Ryno was talking about his first visit to Disneyland? Same thing.
I think that I'm going to continue listening to it. I expect that shows like this will evolve and change a bit over time. They're figuring out what their current groove is.

I also wanted to add that I've listened to some other Disneyland podcasts and both the old DIS Unplugged and the new DIS Unplugged DL editions are far better than those.

** Edited to add **
I think that it's probably helpful that Christina has been reporting on her food experiences at DL since she has a food allergy. In general, DL has a poor reputation among WDW fans in the food allergy department, but I don't think that this is warranted. I have a close friend with celiac disease who went with us to Disneyland last year and based on information I got on the Disneyland board here, I was able to point her in the right direction. So it's great that listeners can hear it straight from somebody like Christina who does have a food allergy.
