*** The Official August 2018 Thread*** - let's have some fun....

Finally got our flights booked. I originally planned to drive; but the more I thought about it, the less I wanted to do it despite the difference in costs. We only live 10 hours away; but I'm the only driver and haven't driven 10 hours straight in years. Last time we drove (2013) I split the drive over 2 days. That was fun; but it just seemed way less appealing this year.

Hopefully they have time to get our Magical Express tags to us; but we did retrieve our own bags last year because our flight got in at 9pm.

In other news, I realized my teenager didn't know how long our trip was going to be. Last year it was 4 days, which we were really grateful for especially since we hadn't been in 3 years. But we had to really change our touring style and had to skip Animal Kingdom. Since we never know if/when we can return, we agreed we wouldn't go back unless we could do a week.

When I told her it was 9 days this time, she said, "Oh my God. If I whine at all, please slap me."

You heard it here folks :lmao:

I told her of course I wouldn't slap her; but I would remind her that she said I could. :cool2:

I’m not familiar with Drizly, so just looked them up. They seem to have pretty good prices. Is there a delivery charge? And do you need to be present to accept the delivery, or wil they leave it with bell services?

There is a delivery charge, but it wasn't crazy - $3-$5 if I remember correctly. You do need to be present to retrieve it for over-21 verification. They won't leave it at the desk.

I know I’m extremely late to this party, but this is sort of a last minute decision to go. We are at Pop starting August 21st staying until August 29th. We have annual passes and thought, what the heck, let’s do a quick trip!

It’s just my hubby and I. We were there last September and in April this year and are booked for September this year. We like to take advantage on the rare occasion we have an annual pass!

This looks like a really fun group, so I’m happy to join you!

I'm soooo looking forward to trying this one AND the strawberry one
:):)

Got mine about a month before I leave.

On that note, do I need to actually take the magical express, even though I am going to put the tags on the bags
You do not need to ride ME since your bags come to the resort later on a different vehicle. If the tags are on the bags, they'll get to your room. (unless of course your bags go to Sacramento instead of Orlando as ours did once! lol)

Hello Everyone! I am late to arrive to this thread, but we planned our trip a little late, just over a month ago. We are going August 23-Sept 1. I'm taking two of my kids, DD13, and DS17, and we are all Disney veterans. But this year we also have my fiance, and his DD16 who have never been. So this should be a fun trip! Staying at AKL in a 1BR. It was either cram into a 1BR for 9 nights, or do the 2BR for 6, so we decided to stay longer. Also we have never been in August before, and I am preparing for less park time, and more breaks in the afternoon to get out of the heat. I just hope we don't regret taking an August trip. For 5 Adults and free dining, it was kind of our only choice. The kids would have had so much work to make up if I had taken them out of school. :(

Myself and my kids have been probably 20 times, so its hard to find stuff that we haven't done before. But we haven't been since 2/16, and that was before Avatar was open, so this will be new for us. We also booked a couple of meals we never have tried before - 50's Prime Time Cafe, Tutto Italia, and Tusker House for Dinner. Also trying the Star Wars Dessert Party. I haven't seen Illuminations for probably 20 years, so that will be like a new thing too. But going with 2 first timers should be a blast. My fiance just thinks its an "amusement park with all kiddie rides." You try to tell people that have never been that its just so much more than that, but they have to see it to believe it!

Lets go August!

I'm a little late to the party here, but August 2-7 we are heading to All Star Sports! We are having our second baby in October and decided to surprise our son with a trip to Disney as one last big fling as the only child. We aren't telling him until we get on the plane (mostly to save ourselves from the "is today the day we are going to Disney?" every single day!) The last time we were there was almost 4 years ago when he was in my belly!! I'm so excited!

Hope they compensated you greatly for that.. even though I don't know if thats Disneys fault

Has anyone heard anything at all about the progress of Kringla Bakery? I was hoping it would open in August since that is toward the end of summer, but I guess September technically is according to the calendar, right?

Congratulations on your new addition. We stayed at Sports last year and it was a really fun resort. My son loved it.

I had to laugh at saving yourself from the "Is today the day we are going to Disney?" questions each day. This is exactly why my 8 year-old has no idea we are going. Despite multiple dry erase calendars up telling when anything is happening and him knowing how to read a calendar, it would be the same thing. Then he would huff and puff and say, "Waiting is not my thing mom. I need to use my patience; but it is so hard." :rotfl: At least he admits it.

Not easy for those of us that know about the trip either; but my teenager and I occupy ourselves pretty well. Have fun on your trip. I always wish I had been able to take my oldest prior to when we started going. We didn't start until after her brother was born but we have been having a great time.

Hey August folks! 17 more days for us! I have been keeping up with the TP crowd calendars since our trip is coming up soon. According to them the crowds levels are low. Like yesterday it was a 3 resort wide CL. Fingers crossed for us that that remains the trend. If we are going to be sweating our butts off low crowds will make it more tolerable! :sunny:

That sounds awesome- was it a predicted 3 or was that the actuals that TP posted?

We'll be arriving on the same day and I'm hoping the low crowds continue as well. :)
