Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Reading that article shows how important it is to know the guidelines for where you are traveling. Especially now where some places are more strict than others with face coverings and such.

Right! I’ve been so focused on Disney I haven’t given enough thought to different airports, ride share, etc. We have a flight credit with United so I went on their website to just estimate costs and noticed all the middle seats weren’t available. However, there’s a giant disclaimer saying they’re not guaranteed to be empty either.... The flights for October (my overly optimistic goal) are cheaper than my credit so I’d consider buying that middle seat just so we don’t have to sit by anyone haha!

Blog post was updated for WDW. They are suspending Fastpass+ for now, cancelling ADR, and eventually will move to 60 day reservations vs the 180 reservations. I'm nervous for what they will do for DL...
With WDW not using FP because of the new queuing, DL will probably also stop MaxPass to spread out the Guests in attraction queues.

WDW will just drop ADRs from 180 day pre-booking to 60 days pre-booked once the parks re-open. DL will probably keep their ADR scheduling and at the new reduced capacity because they need to order supplies and know CM scheduling needs in advance.

I agree. Might be a bit of chaos for those that bought MaxPass in advance on tickets since they just made that an option! I imagine they'll just refund it? I'm happy I can just modify my ticket type (I use Get Away Today) but what a hassle for others..

Or AP's that have maxpass part of their benefits (signature plus/premiere).

Also Disney Springs now says that children 2 and up need to wear a mask. I think before if you were 3 and up you only needed a mask. DTD may do the same...

Isn't FP+ WDW version of FP where you can book ahead of time? If so, I don't think DL will necessarily get rid of their MP feature. The main question is do they want people waiting in lines or waiting elsewhere.

Correct; FP+ is the name of the FP system that WDW used up until the closure. Day of FPs were also part of that system.

No FP lines because they will use all available queue space to socially distance all guests. Same as Shanghai. That’s why it’ll probably be the same for DL - no FPs because no FP lines.

Waiting elsewhere would be virtual queues and that hasn’t been mentioned for any WDW attractions.

I could totally see DL not utilizing FP/MP when they first open just so more people are in lines vs crowding walk ways.

Man, I’m really feeling bad for the cast members that will have to deal with this. If any of the crazy comments I’ve seen on FB are any indication people are very, very angry. I can understand the frustration, especially with dining at WDW being so intense, but let’s be kind to cast members.

The whole WDW planning is intense. I am so so so grateful my friend and I went there in January before all of this went down.

What are they mad about? I haven’t seen a single requirement come from Disney that wasn’t anticipated or at least speculated at for several weeks.

Even if something is speculated to happen, that doesn’t mean you have to be happy about it.

I hate to say it but I think I’m one of the unhappy folks. We had a WDW trip booked for March that was rescheduled immediately on closing for August.

The August trip is/was already questionable due to virus concerns, but now, seeing videos from Disney Springs and reading the rules of the WDW reopening, it just does not seem like the kind of experience I want from a WDW trip.

As for DL, I’m local and have been looking forward to the park reopening. I’ll be annoyed if it’s reservation required and no MP/FP since that’s not what I paid for... but assuming there’s some kind of refund or accommodation for the loss of those things, then I’ll probably visit DL just to walk around and see how the new rules work. But I totally get why someone who is coming from out of town might be upset by a limited/restricted experience when the park reopens, even if it’s in line with speculation.

I think the past couple of months have been an emotional roller coaster for most people, and the safety standards where you live can play a large role in your perspective of what will be expected at the parks.

I live in San Francisco, which has had pretty strict standards since the beginning. So for me, the park reopening requirements are not that different from what my new normal has been for the past couple of months.

However, if you're coming from a city/county/state that does not require even half of what will be required at the parks, I can definitely see how it would be a culture shock to be expected to adapt during a vacation. During normal times, we expect to be able to let loose and just enjoy ourselves. If you choose to go to the parks in the near future, it all of a sudden becomes a time of stressful preparation, and it's hard to ignore all the usual things that won't be included.

Not everyone will be rational in their expectations or reactions, and it's just a part of human nature. Knowing something might not happen doesn't make it any easier when it becomes a reality. I'm very nervous about the possibility of advanced reservations, what a day at the parks will feel like, and how other people around me will behave.

I do truly worry for the CMs. Many of us have seen the less glamorous interactions they're forced to deal with, and I can only imagine how much more the new rules will put them in the line of fire. All we can do is be kind to them, follow the rules, and be as patient as possible.

This is a great point. Experience with this pandemic varies so much on a regional basis. My town has also been extremely strict so nothing has really surprised me with the measures Disney will take. I have a close friend in a rural area in the midwest where they’ve had smaller amounts of cases and then everything opened quickly with no restrictions at all. No masks or anything like that is required. Definitely a different experience for us both when we chat.

This is all so depressing though so I totally get everyone’s despair- us Disnerds truly get it better than most! Even though we’re privileged to be able to afford going every six months, I’m still so sad about missing our usual August trip. All the little rituals leading up like planning our outfits, buying disney shirts, strategy planning.... just gone. Thank god for Animal Crossing to keep me busy.

I just wish people wouldn’t take their anger out on Disney and the cast members. No one likes this situation but pointing figures isn’t helping. Mickey would not approve.

I'm just slightly east of you and I don't see any of these additional requirements as a big deal. HOWEVER, as a test, I just sat outside the hospital where I work at and spent about 20 minutes of my lunch break in the 85 degree heat with my mask on and it was uncomfortable.

My personal belief is that the mask requirement will be in-name only. Seeing as, half the time, I'm walking around Disneyland eating something or drinking water just to stay hydrated.

I pulled the workflow from Shanghai's website as DLR is closest to SDL in terms of size, and it looks a bit ugly for AP holders. At least the clock isn't running. I bolded the important parts.

Shanghai Disneyland: Annual Pass holder Advanced Reservation flow and rules:
  • Reservation is subject to the eligible dates for different Pass types on the up-to-date Shanghai Disneyland Annual Pass Calendar. Annual Pass holders have to make a reservation online within seven days before their visit. The daily quota is in limited quantities and is offered on a first come, first served basis.
  • We are offering park entry sessions with different start times depending on daily operations. Please go to the Advanced Reservation page for more details and select a visitation date and a park entry session.
  • Only one reservation per time per pass is permitted. The reservation is cancellable and changeable subject to the availability of the daily quota. Annual Pass holders are unable to make another reservation until the current one is redeemed, cancelled or expired. The reservation status of the accompanying child who is under the age of 3 years old or with a height of 1.0 meter and below on the day of their visit must be the same as the Annual Pass holder.

So if SDL is ported exactly as-is, then APs of all stripes will be stuck being able to reserve 1 day out of 7 during the initial period. It looks worse than a Flex pass, and I'm hoping they change that to the *same* park in 7 days, so one can do DCA on day 1 and DL on day 2. Otherwise, that's going to cut out a LOT of AP holders outside of the region where a single day in the park just isn't worth the travel time. So-Cal APs will have a big advantage here.

I was unable to find any information about whether on-site hotel guests were given preferential entry (aside from their version of EMH/MM, which doesn't appear updated).

I ventured into some of the other subforums and there's a LOT LOT LOT more cynicism coming across on the WDW trip planning threads. To be fair, they now have concrete reopening plans and got a lot of their workflow mucked up (i.e. no FP+, reservations, etc...) so I kind of get it. But I also don't because I'm all about the free flowing DL trip with zero plans/reservations 90% of the time.

Poor @VandVsmama started a thread to make people feel better and she practically got ripped apart :mic:

It kind of went like this:
VandVsmama: "Don't worry guys... this sounds like a Disneyland trip! It can still be fun!"
Everyone: "#$Y#*$#*#&*(& you"
