Paraplegic Dad - Advice Needed please!

In Disney World, the rule generally is that anything with a lap bar cannot have a cushion under the person. Things like Pirates with no lap bar, my husband uses his cushion (he is a paraplegic)

    Wheelchair in lines/rides

I suggest keeping the wheelchair with you in lines, even if no one is in it. Sometimes a 10 minute wait becomes 30, and there is no way to go out to get the wheelchair if you need it. Also I second the idea of a scooter - those rental chairs are heavy by themselves, much less with people in them.

    Fireworks/parade disabled section w/o DAS

The wheelchair viewing areas are for people with wheelchairs and scooters and rollators. Basically people that are short and can't stand up to see the fireworks. Sometimes they allow people with a DAS but no mobility device to enter the area, sometimes now. It seems to depend on the cast...

    Airhawk electric wheelchair

This is my Airhawk electric wheelchair, complete with my kitty sleeping under it. My husband helped me switch out my armrests for more padded ones, then wrapped it in vinyl wrap to make it purple. Now I am going to get custom stickers for the sides, probably mickey heads. I am using a mickey...

transgender/ genderfluid dress at disney question.

My husband, who is genderfluid, goes to disney all the time with makeup, nail polish, and wearing my skirts. this was when he had a full beard. I have a number of genderfluid friends who dress fem all the time in the parks, and they have never had a problem. As long as all the bits are...

    First time wheelchair renter

I strongly suggest a ECV or wheelchair over the powerchair. It takes a bit of time to learn how to drive one, and most places will not rent a powerchair to an inexperienced user. It is harder to drive one of those than you think (I am a powerchair user), since the joystick controls both speed...

    First time wheelchair renter

I would definitely get the gloves for the pusher. It is hot, so put a towel on the chair when not in use, otherwise the black fabric/vinyl will absorb the heat from the sun and be very uncomfortable. Be prepared to take rest breaks for the pusher, or have more than one pusher. It gets very...

    Airhawk electric wheelchair

It was a feature offered as part of the package when I ordered it. But if you search "vinyl sticker letters" on Amazon, you can find both letter stickers and services offering custom decals. Or if you have a Cricut or something like that, you can get vinyl wrap sheets.

    Airhawk electric wheelchair

My chair is silver, but I am planning on using vinyl wrap to make part of it purple. I did the same thing to my old powerchair, so I know how. I also was able to get my name put on it in purple.

    Airhawk electric wheelchair

After a 5 hr day in MK yesterday, I decided to go ahead and buy the AIrhawk. My husband has had a chance to talk to many users, touch and feel the wheelchair. He said everyone recommended it (though one person did say they wishes it had better traction in the rain). I got the second battery...

    Airhawk electric wheelchair

You have the choice of using a single battery or 2. the single battery is only rated for 10 miles or 6 hours. I can see why it would die fast for people in a busy place like Disney. I would be getting 2 batteries.

    Airhawk electric wheelchair

I am thinking about getting a folding electric wheelchair for the parks, as right now I am using my custom manual and it is a bit much for me. Has anyone used an Airhawk or rented one? Just looking for opinions! TIA

parking ECV/scooter at parks and resorts

You can definitely park the scooter, but I suggest bringing it in every queue that is accessible to scooters. There will be some you will need to leave it outside or transfer to a standard park chair. But the queues are very long sometimes, and can stop randomly. They will direct you what to...

    scooter lock

Definitely don't use a bike lock to lock it to a fence or a pole. If a CM needs to move it, they will call security and cut the lock to move it where it needs to go. A lot of places if you take the scooter to the ride, you will need to give it to the CM and they will park it and move it around...

For those who can't walk or struggle walking, have you ever been on a ride where the guests needed to be evacuated?

I got evacuated from MMRR, and they brought a park chair out to me and asked if i was able to get out of the ride car and sit in that. I know it would not work for everyone, but i have just enough mobility that with my dad helping me, I was able to transfer to the park chair. then the CM...

So I just had my fitting appointment for my new hearing aids today! It was amazing to be able to hear, however briefly. These are my first hearing aids. they are going to be Phonak Audeos. I am still considered mild to barely moderate hearing loss. I have been fighting with doctors for...
