I guess my response would be to look at what Aulani offers that you can't get on Maui and see if it's worth the price.

I find the Delta flights to be consistently superior to the ones on Hawaiian. It's a shame there are no direct flights from NY to Honolulu on Delta because I'd use them more oftenm. The food is way better, the entertainment package offers more movies and is more updated than what Hawaiian...

Hilo is 30 miles away from the volcano park, so if there was a steam explosion I don’t see that affecting he low and less there’s an incredible amount of ash making it impossible to see.

Does your trip insurance cover natural disasters? It may be a stretch but I think a volcano erupting near where you’re supposed to vacation in may count. Especially since areas are actually being evacuated.

Private beaches are illegal in Hawaii. The only group that has a workaround is the government.

There are no private beaches in Hawaii, but the lagoons do have a secluded feel. Also, if someone is really into waterslides, Wet 'n' Wild is close by.
