Should athletes be cap-tied to a national team in general or should mobility to other national teams be the norm for all sports?

On the subject of it being over-rated: I teach at Michigan. I know many people at Ohio State. They are perfectly lovely and I like spending time with them. But we are supposed to bitterly hate each other. Tribalism for the win, I guess.

See, what you are doing is not participating in a discussion, but rather repeating an opinion. I understand your point, but then again I also think that citizenship is a much more loosely-defined idea than many might. When my kids finish their doctorates, they may work in a US university, or...

Should athletes be cap-tied to a national team in general or should mobility to other national teams be the norm for all sports?

I disagree. Why is it not acceptable to let the governing bodies for each sport decide?

From what I can tell, a single cycle of the world cup (a single sport) generates 2x the revenue of the entire summer Olympics, across all sports. Don't care. Let the governing bodies decide how they want to. FINA just increased residency requirement from one year to three, which fine I guess?

I don't think it matters. Almost none of them have the visibility and financial impact of the World Cup.

So much Disney food is terrible

You get the same outcome when you ask "What restaurant is 'never again' for you?"

So much Disney food is terrible

To be fair, the Egg McMuffin is criminally under-rated. It's Real Food (well, minus the "cheese" anyway).

    Maybe it’s not the food.

Why are new homes built mostly McMansions when people want smaller?

I get that, but for me money is for spending. If it makes my life much easier and simpler, that’s worth some financial friction. Some of that friction (e.g. the sales commission) is going to happen no matter what. I may as well enjoy the benefits of it.

Why are new homes built mostly McMansions when people want smaller?

I don't think that's the reason anyone does it. It's certainly not the reason I am thinking of downsizing. I'm currently in transition and renting, but expect to buy in the next 2-4 years, depending on the market, rates, and what my (currently uncertain) financial picture looks like. I...

    Beyond Big Thunder

Spidey has really held up well. It manages to have heart and be a spectacle despite being older technology. It is vastly superior to the Transformers use of the same ride system.

Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2024 Edition

One of the characters in the preview was manipulating Deadpool in a very Kamar-Taj way, so some connection to the Dr. Strange bits of the MCU would seem likely.

"Universal gets to keep doing what it is contractually allowed to be doing and Disney gets to do new things not contractually allowed" is not a compromise.

"Do you want to build a snowman?" Deadpool is great.

How old were you when you first went abroad?

Canada around 12 or 13. Mexico in college. I didn't get outside North America until grad school (probably Germany or France, not sure which).

Yes, canceling Yet Another Spinner was such a blow to Epcot. I'm not sure how anyone gets off Guardians disappointed that there were no animatronics unless it's knee-jerk dogmatism.

Why are new homes built mostly McMansions when people want smaller?

Yeah, I've seen some neighborhoods like that. I've never been a fan, for a number of reasons. I mentioned Ann Arbor upthread, and they also recently eliminated parking minimums city-wide in the Uniform Code. There are some pretty good arguments for why this can be a good idea---it allows...

Why are new homes built mostly McMansions when people want smaller?

In and around Ann Arbor, a very good chunk of (and probably most) new construction is in the from of townhouses or mid-rise condo buildings. They tend to be high-end in terms of fit and finish, and are still not cheap (at least, not cheap for the Midwest). So they are still quite profitable, but...
