    Anyone else going late June?

The main pool isn't beside the villas, it's deeper in the heart of the complex. There is the smaller Beach pool next to the villas which has a beach bar that serves limited food, but again the main restaurants are within the Grand Floridian hotel itself and no specific food options within the...

    Anyone else going late June?

The hotels will still be closed so until DVC clarifies the position, do not assume that any resort eateries will be open save for those within the DVC complex itself. So, for example, if you are at Bay Lake Towers, the Contemporary Resort restaurants may still be closed to you, if at the Poly...

Disney Website advises that you travel at your own risk

New post on Disney website outlines the health risk of COVID and of populated gatherings signalling particular risk to certain vulnerable populations. It specifies some measure (e.g. masks) guests may be required to adhere to, and then states that guests voluntary assume all risk. I suspect...

DVC trip cancelled - without any notification

Looks as if U.S. airlines are being much more responsive than UK airlines on the refund front. Good to hear. Probably means they are keeping customer goodwill whilst our are not.

DVC trip cancelled - without any notification

Just curious about those who were planning to fly into Orlando for these vacations. How are airlines treating you when you have to cancel flight bookings at such short notice?

Well, we caved, and cancelled our July trip

I am so sorry for the disappointment you are all experiencing, particularly the children.

    Pool Opening?

The solution may be to give free entry for resort guests to one of the water parks where there is much more space and loungers can be wide spread, but only have the pool open, not the lazy river and rides where people would get much closer together.

    Pool Opening?

Social distancing recommendations may cut by at least 50% the number of people you can have on a pool deck. Tough to enforce if parks are closed or have limited access and guests need somewhere to be other than their villas.

Great thinking -- what sort of placard do you think Disney should put outside the Poly lifts when they rule them out of service? "COVID warning" Do not take lift unless you are in a family group"; "Call front desk if you are in a mobility scooter/ or aged 65+ and need elevator to be disinfected?"

Good. Get in there. Enjoy your vacation. Write a will before you depart. Pack your own coffee machine and cleaning wipes. Pack lots of snacks in your luggage just in case you can't get a restaurant space. Bring a measuring stick to wave at CMs as you pass them in the resorts with narrow...

I don't class this info as leaks -- it is the official Orange County plan and recommendations from it's task force that has been published. The uncertainty is that although being on the task force, WDW and Universal today seem to have reserved their right to have their own plan (which may be...

I think it is a really strong signal that they believe older people, out of a sense of self-preservation, should stay away from crowds of strangers.

If you're right then it is the end of AKL Concierge and mugs you can re-fill yourself. But the guidelines also talk of removing glassware, mugs etc and so might also include the cookware in the rooms. Who knows how guidelines will be interpreted. Still doesn't make much sense to remove coffee...

So what do we all make of the Orange County guidance on re-opening of resorts? Specifies no coffee makers in rooms, "do not offer self food services" (does this include toasters, microwaves, ovens etc) and housekeeping only by request or on departure of guests?

It happens all the time when they are "renovating" and closures can last for months. So clearly DVC can have resorts that are open but do not have working pools. They often offer an alternate pool, but there is nothing to say that they can't close the feature pools at Boardwalk, Yacht Club...

And they have closed these in the past for non-emergency reason without anyone blinking an eye.

So, is it really in the membership's interest for the whole thing to go bump and collapse inwards if meeting the letter of the law creates conditions where the structure/economics and finances implode?

But there is no obligation that I can see to provide any resort amenities other than occasional housekeeping. No obligation to provide food outlets, a pool or pool deck, a retail outlet, resort entertainment etc, valet parking, bell services and a whole host of other "normal" service provisions.

But they do play a part in the decisions taken about staffing levels, the services on offer (is one food outlet open or 4) , the number of buses per hour, or even if there are any buses, or are all pools open etc. All of these decisions are within DVC's gift regardless of whether rooms are...
