A Most Epic Fantasy DISmeet Cruise-The bitter end 3/21, Bonus Feature, Completed Star Wars Galaxy's Edge 6/20

Amazing wrap-up! Glad Jill survived her near-death experience - phew! Hopefully the Nautilus also survived the great suitcase explosion. And yes, I guess it isn't surprising that they sell luggage at the airport - I'm sure there are a lot of people who have packing emergencies, especially on the way home.

The John Williams concert sounds amazing. I don't think I've ever seen photos of how they set up the Bowl for concerts like that. I'm used to Ravinia, where the seats are reserved, but the lawn is first come, first serve - but it is reversed in that the lawn is far away from the stage and doesn't have a view at all. The little boxes for you guys look, well, interesting.

After wheeling it a few feet out of the stateroom, I realized that it was even worse than the suitcase it replaced. It didn't want to wheel at all and I was literally dragging it the whole way.

Ruh roh! After all the work to get it out. :(

I followed her around the corner with my suitcase and carry on. Just as I rounded the corner the zipper of the new suitcase split wide open, and my stuff started to spill out onto the floor. Great. Just great.

OH... crap.

I was amazed at how many different stores actually sold luggage, the Harley store had some, so did Sea World, even Disney, but in the end Samsonite won out for their durability and a 10 year guarantee on the suitcase. It set us back about $250, but if it lasts until 2028, that’s good!

Yeah, hostage to bad/urgent situation. You HAD to pay that.

There wasn’t much else to do. We boarded and I got settled in. On Southwest Wifi is only $8 for the whole day, so I figured why not? And all the way to Chicago I caught up on the Disboards and Facebook.

I do that too. Every flight east.

The attendant left Fran in the wheelchair at the top of the gate and went back for another person. By this point I looked at the time and our next flight was going to be boarding anytime now. We were at gate B3 and our plane was leaving from B26. We had no choice but to try and make our way on our own. Fran held two of our carry ons, I had my purse over my shoulder while I was pushing her with my hands and "dribbling" the other carry on like a soccer ball. A different attendant saw us and took pity. He pushed Fran while I struggled to keep up with their pace. When we got to the gate, the attendant burst through all the A list people yelling "clear for preboard!" Or something like that."

We were able to get on before the other passengers, although the passengers from the previous leg had all moved up to the first few rows, so we had to go back a little farther than normal. Usually I like around row 7, but this time we were like row 12. No biggie.

PHew! You made it!

This was a packed full flight, so no refund of miles for this leg. And to make matters worse the pilot announced that the WiFi on this plane was broken. I was bummed because I had planned on using it since I paid on the previous flight. So instead I just played Mahjong and listened to my Disney playlist.

I hate that. Happened to me on my last flight. :(

I thought I might as share this short little bonus feature since it altered the course of the trip that I have just completed. As you may know the reason for our hasty return home was that John Williams was playing 3 nights at the Hollywood Bowl. When Fran realized that he was playing this weekend of the cruise she was ready to cancel the whole thing. I compromised by getting tickets for Sunday night, which is why we flew directly home.

I DO remember that now! Looked incredibly worth it!

For the first time in 10 days I was forced to prepare my own coffee again.

z18FC0902JW02.jpg

#firstworldprobs

The program opened with the Herald trumpets playing the Olympic Fanfare and Theme.

z18FC0902JW08.jpg

Sooooo coool!!!

:worship::worship::worship:

I believe that when the Herald Trumpets came back they played the Imperial March which is why everyone got their light sabers out. Now that I remember it was quite impressive to hear these trumpeters playing, “Dun, dun, dun, dun, de dun, dun, de, dun. Dun, dun, dun, duh, de dun, duh, de, dun. Da, duh, da, de, dun, da, duh, do dut…..” you get the gist.

(Not so) oddly I totally hummed that right along in my head.

I didn't know Spielberg was there!!!!!! We missed you over the weekend but you made the right choice in seeing Spielberg and John Williams!

I was surprised that Spielberg was there, but it was kinda cool!

All caught up. I had completely forgotten about Jill's near drowning at CC. Thanks for reminding me ....... yip, still writing out that TR.

Can't wait until you get to our appearances in there! :rotfl2:

It was sad that we already had to say goodbye to you and Fran after the cruise. And OMG, I remember the "burst" suitcase quite vividly, but had to LOL when I saw it all taped up right here.

I know, I was very sad reading all you folks's texts while I was at home... :sad2:

Concert looked great, bet it sounded even better than it looked and I was in awe to see that Steven Spielberg was there too. Well, I guess if one lives in LA one gets to see the interesting people. Nothing like that here.

It does happen occasionally, not all that often here though as well. Either that or I just don't get out much!

Can't believe your flight home is tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!! Good thing you have another one planned.

I know! But at that point I was ready to come home as well.

Another "sleep in" day for you!

At home I rarely wake up that early!

The alternative might've gotten you arrested.

Very true!

Oh! See, I didn't know that. I just assumed that the ship docked and you had to get off. No food service.

I don't think any cruise line is that cruel. At least none that I've heard of.

 Okay... Really not good!

::yes:: :sad2:

I'll take that over the chocolate croissant every day. Not a huge fan of chocolate croissants. I find them to be a bit on the dry side.

Yeah I don't care for them much either.

Odd. but at least you got it straightened out eventually.

Yeah, really odd.

Nope! That thing looks sad.

It does, doesn't it?

Bingo! Done! No need to continue!

:lmao:

I actually liked it, but it didnt have spinners, our suitcases need to have spinners.

Not bad. I'd probably have done the same, tbh.
Our suitcases have lifetime warranties... but we paid for the privilege.

I bet you did.

Um... what?

I asked her about this. She was afraid of going to a place that only served spaghetti. Since they have chicken and other pastas, that was OK.

:) Good use of it.

::yes::

Oy...

... but I'm glad someone had the decency to help you guys out.

I'm not sure why there were not enough people for all the passengers needing assistance.

Did they part like the Red Sea? They did that for us when Elle was pushing me through the terminal.

They sort of reluctantly moved, but they would have been mowed down if they didn't.

:( Well... poop. Hey! How about a refund! :sad2:

They would argue that I did get to use it on the first trip.

This is such a fun photo. Bet they were glad to see you guys. :)

They usually are. The old cats used to shun us for at least a day or two. Current kitties are all over us as soon as we're in the door.

The horror!

As Liesa said #firstworldproblems

That looks interesting. What is that?

Breakfast Pot Pie

You've got great seats! Guess you'd call them "floor seats"?

I call them "box seat adjacent". Technically the entire bowl is constructed on the floor. But the first 1/4 to 1/3 is all box seats and those people literally will them to folks. It's hard to get them cause people renew every year, and if someone doesn't renew, current box owners get the chance to upgrade their seats before new box owners are offered seats. I think there is a waiting list for the boxes. The handicapped seats we get are nice because it feels like the boxes without the price tag.

Sounds like it was a great show. :)

It was :thumbsup2

:rotfl2:

I guess suitcases busting on trips must be pretty common lol. Glad you got it sorted and a great new case to boot!!

Really enjoyed reading about your cruise! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I guess exploding suitcases are pretty common.

Your phone! :lmao: :woohoo: :lmao:

Well, I'm talking to you ladies most all the time!

What is funny about that is that is the name of the Jenny, Jill, and Alison What's App chat group. Jenny picked the name.

You all know how much we chat!

Blame Jenny, she picked the name!

Huh. I thought I was all caught up, but maybe that was only in my mind. Anyway, I hope you had a great time in Florida!

I jumped ahead pretty quickly, I wanted to get all caught up before I got back and was starting another TR.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: That's funny, I don't care who you are.

Thanks, I'm in horrible shape. :lmao:

Almost a perfect shot right there.

Thanks! :goodvibes

Yikes! I think you buried the real story here!

Well at least Jill came in a told it from her POV.

Hi! :wave2:

Oh, wait--I wasn't on Castaway Cay. Never mind.

:rotfl2:

Now that would be a tough one to figure out.

In the end she carried it on the plane.

Good job. Can't go through life without a Mickey bar.

The horror!

That's weird. I saw them on the menu. You'd think it would be hard to mess that up.

I'm not sure why they didn't think we wanted the hash browns.

Yikes! It's like a mummy bag.

:rotfl2:

Um...what?

I asked her about this. She was afraid that when I said "Italian" I meant a place that only served spaghetti. Not exactly sure why she said that, but evidently the fact that we could have a salad, chicken parm, etc that was OK.

I hate when they do that to you.

Especially when you're dealing with someone in a wheelchair!

:woohoo: That's so awesome! He came to conduct the Philadelphia Orchestra recently and I tried to get tickets, but they were all snapped up by subscribers and us peons never even had a chance.:sad1:

That's too bad. The bowl seats 17,500 people so with three nights, it's pretty hard to sell out.

That's where I'd be! Hope you can still hear something from there.

They have a huge broadcast system that pumps the music out to the back of the hall. Up where we sit you can't tell if you're actually hearing the orchestra or the broadcast.

That's fantastic.

It's amazing how much music really adds to a movie.

You can tell when they play the clips without the music, and then play it again with the music playing. They did that with "The Cave" sequence on the program that night.

So awesome!

That's even more awesome!

So much awesomeness!

Sounds like a great night! I'm amazed he's still performing concerts. Would be a dream to see that.

That's why she really wanted to go, we never know when he won't be performing again. Already he has committed to the last of his Star Wars films, and then he's done.

Yes, the Nautilus made it safely home, and the new suitcase made it through another trip.

The Bowl is permanently set up. All the boxes are built in and the benches up higher are all made of cement. There is not much room in those boxes, I've sat in them before. I like the HA seats as it's just a big area and they bring in folding chairs for partners who are not in scooters/wheelchairs, and portable tables to put in front of you.

Ruh roh! After all the work to get it out. :(

I know, not good.

OH... crap.

I may have used a little bit more harsh language.

Yeah, hostage to bad/urgent situation. You HAD to pay that.

There were cheaper models, but then you get what you pay for.

I do that too. Every flight east.

It depends on how tired that I am. This time I wasn't as tired.

PHew! You made it!

Barely!

I hate that. Happened to me on my last flight. :(

At least I was good on my flights this time.

I DO remember that now! Looked incredibly worth it!

It was definitely a good time!

(Not so) oddly I totally hummed that right along in my head.

That was totally my intent. ;)

It was only one day after I had spent the afternoon out at the park with two new friends and we were back checking into the hotel. @jedijill had planned a long weekend for her birthday celebration with a group of friends from all over the country and world, so I decided to crash her party as well and spend two nights at the Grand. It started off that I only could get one night, but then a few months before our stay the second night of waitlist came through, so we were there for Wednesday and Thursday nights. I was OK with that because I really don’t like to spend weekends at the parks if I can avoid it.

So here we are the next day after last update checking into the hotel. We didn’t have any big dinner reservations or anything, that would be tomorrow night. But I must have been stressed out during this trip because I seem to have missed a lot of pictures!

I have absolutely no pictures from our Wednesday night check in or the day on Thursday, but I think we were pretty low key. We had a big dinner planned at 5PM and I didn’t want to go out drinking or anything to ruin my appetite. It was on this day also that Fran started feeling under the weather.

It was Jill’s birthday and we had a reservation for five at Napa Rose. Fran asked if she could be excused because she was feeling too icky to eat. So I gave her a pass. I started off with my favorite Belvedere Gibson Up.

x18DL1025NR01.jpg

And we all toasted with our respective beverages. I believe Jenny and Jill have Proseccos and Michael has a Manhattan.

x18DL1025NR02.jpg

A pic before we’re too “happy”!

x18DL1025NR03.jpg

I brought this little baby along and instead of substituting it for our wine for our main course, they eventually ended up pouring us an extra glass! I think that’s why I may have had a fail on pictures. Luckily Jenny gave me hers. I think she opted not to get the wine pairings that night since she wanted to function the next day. So much for that, but more on that later.

x18DL1025NR04.jpg

This was our Amuse Bouche. I know that those are pistachios on top, but I can't remember for the life of me, what the white stuff was.

x18DL1025NR05.jpg

x18DL1025NR06.jpg

I believe that Michael had the oysters.

x18DL1025NR07.jpg

Paired with this.

x18DL1025NR08.jpg

I believe this was Jenny's.

x18DL1025NR09.jpg

I know that I had this one.

x18DL1025NR14.jpg

But from here on out I'm really fuzzy on who had what. I mean lots of wine and 4+ months later. You can just drool at the food porn.

[Continued from Previous Post]

This was the wine that I brought along.

Moving along back to our Sommeliers selections.

x18DL1025NR24.jpg

I believe this was mine as I had the Strip Steak.

x18DL1025NR25.jpg

I think this was Michael's based on the angle.

x18DL1025NR26.jpg

Enjoy these random food pics.

x18DL1025NR27.jpg

This looks like Duck, probably Jenny's.

x18DL1025NR288.jpg

Dessert wine...

x18DL1025NR29.jpg

Dessert…

x18DL1025NR30.jpg

This was Jenny’s, I can see her dress in the picture!

x18DL1025NR31.jpg

This was Jill’s, she was the Birthday Girl!

x18DL1025NR32.jpg

x18DL1025NR33.jpg

This one was mine, some sort of fig dessert.

x18DL1025NR34.jpg

And that was the end of our lovely meal for Jill’s birthday.

The next day I was going to be touring the parks with Jill’s friends from around the US and World. Jenny had stayed over in Jill's room and was going to join us, but all night long they were testing some loud audio in the park. She didn't get any sleep and ended up going home to get some sleep.

I helped Fran check out of the hotel and load up the car. She was going home while I would be having fun in the park.

We hit a couple rides like Pirates and HM before stopping for lunch at the Stage Door Cafe. We mobile ordered and it was so easy. Jill and I both got corn dogs. I don’t remember what everyone else got.

x18DL1026TR01.jpg

Next it was off to Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy.

x18DL1026TR02.jpg

Then we hopped over to DCA to ride the Incredicoaster.

x18DL1026TR03.jpg

And then we rode TSMM.

x18DL1026TR04.jpg

Then we went to see the Frozen show at the Hyperion Theater. No pictures, as I just sat and enjoyed the show.

By this time GotG had switched over to the “After Dark” Experience, so we went ahead and rode that one.

x18DL1026TR05.jpg

I had called Fran about half an hour before I was ready to say my goodbyes, and she came to pick me up. I said goodbye to Jill and all her friends and went home to collapse.

At home I rarely wake up that early!

They sort of reluctantly moved, but they would have been mowed down if they didn't.

Oh my! Napa Rose Chef's Table is the perfect way to celebrate your 29th birthday again! Fabulous food, fantastic wine, and even better friends! I'm still sad Fran wasn't feeling well but the chef whipped her up some specially made chicken noodle soup! I thought that was a sweet gesture from the restaurant.

OMG! I had the perfect studio at the GCV but they were rehearsing the Feliz Navidad show (or something) and they were doing rehearsals over the loudspeakers until 1 or 2 in the morning. It was AWFUL!!!! I complained and ended up with 4 fastpasses but didn't make up for 2 nights of no sleep.

The tour was fantastic...We have folks from England, Kansas City, and Minnesota all joining me. What a fun birthday!

Jill in CO

Your breakfast pot pie looks delicious. Thank you for sharing the recipe.

You're welcome it's one of my favorite breakfast recipes.

So you're saying you're going to stay home now?

Yeah, right!

No, I just won't wake up early at home.

You're talking to a real newb, here ya know.

But haven't you read enough of my TRs to know this?

Who was that brilliant person who finally said "Dang this valise is heavy. If only it had wheels on it!"

Wheels aren't enough, needs spinners.

Huh.
We have a place here called The Old Spaghetti Factory. Even they don't just serve spaghetti. (Although not much else. But there is some.)

Yeah, they're a chain. We used to have one in Hollywood where we would have the band banquet, cause it was cheap. I think you got bread, a salad and choice of two kinds of pasta for a paltry sum. They may have even had a scoop of sherbert or vanilla ice cream for dessert. I think that was what she wanted to avoid.

Thanks!
It sounds good. I'm going to have to see if I have some ramekins around. I know I bought some... not sure where they are, though... or what size.

Not sure about ml, but 8 oz ramekins are good for "one egg" versions. I use one that is 12-16oz for the two egg versions.

Huh! That's actually pretty interesting. Do you have your names in for box seats too?

No, cause you would have to buy season tickets. Plus the boxes are not accessible. We just buy the individual tickets for the HA seats.

Wow! That's really nice! :)

They meet up together rather often.

I can see that... and I find it hard to fathom since if I was visiting on a weekend, I would have the choice of going... or not for a year or several.

It's a different mindset when you live 25 minutes away... :rolleyes1

Me too!

Yes. You all look very angry.

It's rock salt. That is all the rage right now.

I want this one. Wow, it looks good.

A few weeks later, we went to the parks with a group of friends from band. I know that we rode a few things before Space Mountain especially since I was so tired that I fell asleep on the ride. Leonard wanted to have a little nighty nighty as well.

I got outvoted and we ended up on It's a Small World Holiday. We did take a selfie on our boat before we began our voyage.

After all that togetherness we definitely needed sustenance. Fran and I split the Chicken Dinner at the Plaza Inn. Most everyone else also got the chicken dinner, not sure who split or got their own. Maybe someone got pasta, but I have no evidence as such…..

Because it was the Christmas Season they had a Yule Log on the menu, it was really good.

Bellies full we crossed over to DCA to ride TSMM.

I finally rose above Beaverdom….

And got Best in Vehicle, maybe for the first time!

Next we rode the Incredicoaster, I think I was shielding myself from the Paparazzi that were chasing me!

We went on Radiator Springs Racers next and I think Space Aliens were descending on us while we raced, but only Leonard and I saw them. Everyone else was so focused on the race, that they missed it.

On our way to our next stop, we went by one of the Festival of Holidays booths for the Holiday Egg Nog, it had Brandy, Whiskey, and Bourbon mixed in with the nice warm Egg Nog.

We stopped for a light dinner, I had some Rigatoni with Bolognese.

And I had this lovely Chocolate dessert, it was the perfect amount of food.

Another fun day out at the park!

I have always loved every single one of your trip reports. I'm not on Facebook so I love reading them here. I love the way you write, the pictures and the fun of living vicariously through you and your many journeys, hobbies, houses, construction, cars, kitties (that's a big one as I love kitties). On this trip, I even fell in love with the white 2-layer Mickey & Minnie blouse you wore.

Just a silly FYI...I have a very large Recipe Binder with many dividers. I was looking for a recipe recently and realized I actually have a tab for "franandaj". I still cut & paste your recipes to a Word doc and print out because they always sound so darn good. And not difficult. Please keep them up. Both the recipes and the trip reports.
