Aulani or Four Seasons?

I went to the Four Seasons (in Orlando) because I had good experiences with them in other cities. For Hawaii if you love the deluxe resorts then go to Aulani. I have never been but I cannot imagine it would be any more different to that.

Thank you for you response @alohamom and I did actually look at the Marriott as well and it does look like a lovely resort too! I will definitely keep that one on my list. I think for now we are going to go for Aulani for our final few days on Oahu and if there is no avail we will most likely look into FS or Marriott. :)
I've stayed at the Marriott and Aulani. They are both fantastic resorts. Very different vibes. Marriott was much quieter. Pools were nice, but not as much to do as Aulani. I don't recall there being as many beach amenities to rent, but my kids were younger when we were there so it wasn't a focus. Suggest you look at those amenities too. At Aulani you can rent paddleboard etc that teens might enjoy. Either way, it will be amazing :)

Just wanted to mention that it's possible to find an Aulani owner that would be able to secure your reservation rental prior to the 7 month mark. We had luck finding an Aulani owner on rent/trade forum here on the Dis around the 10 month mark. Between the forums where you can locate an owner yourself and the brokers out there, it can be relatively easy to find an owner if you want to book it before 7 months. Good luck!

Four Seasons in Maui would be a lot better option . Personally Four Seasons via a hotel partner would be the way to go. Or Aulani through Disney Vacation Specialist would be the way to go . I would suggest going through dreams. But have you thought about going to a Ranch in the USA to stay or go Glamipng or camping in a national park

Our kids are ages 15, 14, and 4, and when we went in May, I would have been really bummed if we had chosen the Four Seasons. I was surprised, but I felt the Four Seasons paled in comparison to Aulani in almost every way. Aulani was more luxurious, alive, vibrant, and active.

As far as the split, I felt we did it ALMOST perfectly. We stayed at Aulani the whole trip (8 nights). We had a rental car for the first 3 days and toured the entire island and then 4 resort days. Doing it over, we would have had 4 touring days and 3 or 4 resort days. Tip: we loved Hunama Bay at 6 am with free snorkeling and almost no people the most! Highlite of the trip! Loved the Jungle Expedition Tour at Kualoa Ranch. Hated Waikiki so much I never want to go there again, but glad I did it once. The resort days at Aulani were very relaxing. We've never had time pass so slowly, which was SUCH a change from our normal commando vacations through Disney World or Disneyland. It was very nice, but we all agreed 4 resort days was almost too much for adventuresome families like ours....not quite, but almost! So in retrospect, I think we'd do 4 of each......or if we HAD to cut back on days, it would be 4 touring, 3 resort.

My husband and I are taking an Hawaiian vacation next July or August and are looking for a nice hotel. At the moment I'm looking at the Marriott Ko Olina. Has anyone stayed there? I'm also looking at the Four Seasons, can anyone give me a review of that resort? Thank you for helping me plan.

Its not the best four seasons. I am not sure why Isadore Sharp (please look him up) wanted one there , why he felt he would take over a Marriott. I would try https://www.kahalaresort.com Ritz Carlton Residents The Modern . But I am not understand with the obsession with Hawaii ? I would be going to Florida where there the best beach resort in America http://www.faena.com. But I never understood beaches as a place to visit.

Ok, thanks. We want to go to Hawaii because we've never been and it looks beautiful. If the Four Seasons isn't as good, then maybe I could continue to concentrate on Marriott. I would be interested in anyone's opinions that have stayed there.

We have stayed here twice and really enjoyed it. If you have not been to Oahu before, you need to know that Ko Olina is to the west of Honolulu and sort of removed from a lot of the usual touristy type of places. The lagoons here are man made so the beaches are not as spectacular as many others on the island but all the other beaches are within driving distance and you can walk over to a lovely natural cove in the Ko Olina area.

The Marriott is a nice combination of laid back Hawaii with an upscale feel. If you have been to Maui, it has the same feel as many of the resorts in the Ka'anapali area. The pools are amazing, just look at trip advisor or yelp for some great everyday traveller photos or do a youtube walk through/tour of the pool areas to get a feel. I do like the pools at Aulani better but the Marriott ones are great too and they are open quite late (the Aulani ones close early-I hate that) There is always something fun happening if you like activities and events and 99% of them are included in the price you pay. One time we were walking through the lobby and there was a super long table just covered in loose orchid blossoms for you to make your own leis with. They have a little farmers market once a week where a couple of local people sell amazing fruits, veggies and baked goods. The popular Fia Fia Luau is held on one of the lawns at the Marriott so you can swim in one of the pools and watch it from a distance. They have outdoor movie nights on the same lawn with free popcorn and cotton candy. The list of things happening goes on and on. The rooms are very nice. The first time we stayed they were a little dated but a reno of all rooms has happened and they are up to date-light and bright with a subdued tropical theme. I feel that there are not enough dining options on the resort and the ones that are there are mediocre. I feel you need to leave the resort if you are going to out to eat all the time so you need a car. I personally would not stay here without a car and the parking per day is similar to Aulanis, something in the the $30-$40 a day range, just so you can budget for it or at the very least not have sticker shock. You can book this resort by renting through a time share owner on sites like Redweek and this makes it substantially less than direct through Marriott.

Thank you so much, that is very helpful! I'm still trying to decide between the Marriott and the Four Seasons, but I think Marriott has the inside track. Your advice and description help quite a bit. We have not been to Hawaii, but I understand that Ko Olina is a bit removed from the normal tourist areas, which is why I want to stay there. We have stayed at several Disney hotels at Walt Disney World and have enjoyed all of them (especially Animal Kingdom Lodge and Boardwalk), but I don't think Aulani is in the picture for Hawaii for us. Thank you again for your help!

This is why we like it too. The traffic into Waikiki and Honolulu can be brutal but to other areas of Oahu it really isnt that bad and worth it to me to be away from the congestion

We stopped at the 4S to eat the last time we were at Aulani. Very nice lobby area, but a bit sterile. Especially once you've seen Aulani! Food was very good, but we will probably do something else the next time we stay at Aulani.

Four Seasons Cliental Understated Elegance . So you may say sterile but they will say understated. One of the reasons I choose Four Seasons Orlando. I would personally go to Maui for Andaz or Four Seasons

I really don't think we'll do Aulani next trip, but that's purely based on cost. (I REALLY keep thinking about just one or two nights there!! Think I may just do Maui and Kauai, though.) If you loved AKL, you will LOVE Aulani. Very similar feel IMO. Such a magical place. If you can swing just a night or two, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I thought about Aulani but the cost is much more than the other resorts in the area and from I've read it's not up to the Disney standards I would expect. It really sounds like the Marriott may be the best choice for us. I'm looking at photos of it online and I like what I see. Thank you for the input.
