Canadian Buffoon's DISmeet vacation - 09/14 - Bowled Over

And :welcome: to the TR, stranger!

As soon as I came back, I was out for a couple weeks! But I'm temporarily back now! Damn work got in the way. I was in Paris, FR at the end of March for work and that meant that all my normal work got piled up...which took me the better part of 7 work days to climb out from...and then I decided to book a very last minute trip to WDW while my wife is going to be in Orlando for a work conference (free hotel!!!).

So while I'll be around for a few more days -- I'm about to go dark while at WDW. I'll catch back up sometime late next week.

How cool is that?
(I can ask that, because if you don't
think it's cool... you've skipped ahead.)
pSphUfx.gif

Notice anything about the front cowling?

I didn't even know what a cowling was.

And... not to keep you in suspense,
I did eat it the next day.
I had considered tossing it, actually.
I'm not a big fan of pizza pops.

How can you NOT like calzones???

Although -- while I was in France, DW and I did a tour of Versailles and we stopped at a brasserie close by (obvious tourist trap in retrospect) and the outside eating area was mostly full and the pizzas looked pretty good, so we decided to stop and eat before catching the train back into Paris. DW got a margherita pizza and I opted for the calzone. I THOUGHT it said ham and beef --- but upon cutting into it, I actually got a ham and egg. Apparently the menu said oeuf and not boeuf as I had thought.

So back to your story -- I have enjoyed every calzone I've ever had until that one. Runny egg inside a calzone is just not a good thing for dinner. Especially when you're expecting ground or sliced beef.

What's your best
or favourite breakfast recipe?

This is one that I often make on holiday mornings.

Breakfast Pot Pie
2 Servings
Ingredients
  • 2 cups shredded frozen hash browns thawed
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 tbl butter
  • --------------------------
  • 1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 3 tbl sliced Green Onion
  • 1/2 tsp Dried Basil
  • 1/2 tsp Dijon Mustard
  • --------------------------
  • 3/4 cup cooked chopped Ham, Bacon or Sausage
  • 1/4 cup fine bread crumbs
  • 2 tbl butter
  • 4 eggs

BreakfastPP.jpg

Directions

Preheat Oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine Hash Browns, one egg, and melted butter. (When doubling this recipe, one egg is still sufficient.) Mix well. Grease two ramekins (about 4-5 inches in diameter) and press hash brown mixture into the bottom and around the sides to form a crust. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the the edges are lightly browned.
Meanwhile, stir together condensed soup, milk, green onions, basil and mustard. Mix well. In a separate bowl combine chopped meat, bread crumbs and melted butter. Toss to mix.

When the crusts are browned, crack two eggs into each ramekin. Spoon the soup mixture evenly around the yolks in the ramekin (there will be some (maybe a lot) left over. Sprinkle the meat mixture evenly over the dishes. REturn to oven and bake 25 minutes for solid yolks, 20 minutes for softer yolks, your oven may vary. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. It will be hot!

Sausage & Tomato Egg

Sounds yummy! I might have to try this one. Once I get caught back up!

When I first started thinking
about this road trip,
I had one destination
in mind.

The Harley Davidson museum
in Milwaukee.

The trip morphed quite a bit
from there,
but it was still on the agenda.

Care to come along?

Sure! I've been to my share of auto and motorcycle museums!

Not long afterwards I was crossing
the Menomonee River,
made famous by the Muppets in 1969.
Surely you know it? It's been heard
as recently as 2011.

:sad2:

FYI, 1903 isn't the address
but the date the company
was founded.

I am aware of that! In fact now you remind me that the year I went to Kansas City and toured the plant was 2003 because it was the 100th anniversary amd I remember Fran buying a bunch of shirts since it was a cool reason to get them.

Took one last shot of this sculpture.
Seems... improbable, but...
I'm still fairly new at this,
so who am I to judge?
Guess I'll have to try it
on my bike.

Somehow I do not think gravity would be on your side. Plus without spokes in your tires, you may have a problem.

I wandered inside.
The doors were enormous.
Those grab bars are about chest high.
Yet they were so well balanced
that opening them was no more
difficult than opening a normal door.

Note the exhaust pipe lights.

I would not have noticed them from my phone. Thanks for pointing that out. Interesting abput the doors.

Admission to the museum is $20.
But as a H.O.G (Harley Owners Group)
member, I got in for free.

Score

I'll have to make sure to tell Fran to bring her card if we ever go.

A few things that stand out to me:
(maybe not to you. Maybe you don't care...
I did tell you to skip ahead, you know.)
The bike is basically a bicycle with
an engine instead of pedals.

It's interesting how those early bikes were just that. You see that with the original Indian bikes as well.

And the drive belt... is leather.

I wonder when rubber became the standard? (Too lazy to google.)

True.. but it ended in November.
I don't know, but suspect this bike
was built for action in WWI
and either just missed it,
or was built after the war

They probably had a contract to fulfill and even though the war ended, they wanted their payment.

Actually, no you don't.
It's not really there.
Here's another view.

Weird. Optical illusion.

Sometimes I get so used to seeing
vehicles (bikes... cars... whatever)
as a whole that I forget that they
are really the sum of their parts.

The first thing I look at when I see a bike is the engine, to see if it is a Harley or merely a crotch rocket.

But I can honestly say,
(like you could several minutes ago...
I told you to skip ahead!)
that I was sick and tired
of looking at bikes by now.

I totally get that. I've been to some pretty extensive museums and st some point you do get burned out.

Made it!
With even a couple minutes to spare. Ha!

Whew!

Sure enough, within a couple of minutes,
@irene_dsc walked in.

Nice to "meet" her!

I must admit that every time
I do a DISmeet,
I wonder if the other person
will show up.

Really? Usually (and I know you don't have a uS cell phone) I am texting back and forth in the hours before, so there isn't much doubt.

When we were done,
Irene also mentioned that
the Key Lime pie was good here.

I have never had the pleasure of tasting Key Lime pie.

I think I told her that I'd save it
for back in Canada.

Yeah... well... About that...
It didn't even last until the
end of the next day!

Yeah, and Fran ate the whole box of Maple biscuits while we were at the park Monday.

If you don't mind, I dropped the TR
writing at this point and didn't take photos.
I just wanted to spend some time
with some old friends.
I hadn't seen them since
the Niagara Falls trip back in 2014.

No problem. You gotta do that sometimes. I did for most of Thursday and Friday.

The haul for today:

Nice.

Today's map:

map2_zpssod9ehcw.jpg

What? Only 175 miles? :lmao:

Thanks!
I keep meaning to
make crepes, but I
never have.
No recipe.

I can't believe you never made crepes. They're so easy!

I saw the false shed, but looking from my phone I have been able to spy a second one. Maybe I'll get a chance today.

The trip was lovely - I was very glad that my ankle handled the going from no walking from January to mid March to Disney amount of walking.

Great!
Even if it's like going
from the invention of
the wheel to landing
on the moon.

Shoulder - meh, I'm afraid that my Olympics Gymnastics Career is never going to happen, lol!

Just favour the other one.
No one will notice.

Actually have been diagnosed with a weird chronic pain condition called CRPS - basically my brain and nerves are on constant panic mode and my individual injured limbs show weird symptoms and for me, constant ache.

Apparently there are fewer
than 200,000 CRPS patients
in the US.
I'm glad you got diagnosed!

Hopefully with physio they will settle themselves down. Going to go to a new physiotherapist and try IMS to see if it will help me get more shoulder mobility.

Sure hope that helps.
I've had IMS from my
shoulder/elbow.
Not sure if that helped
of if it was the overall
physiotherapy.

Aren't you glad you asked, haha?

Truthfully?

Yes I am.

Luckily it's something I can cope with for now.

Glad to hear that. :)

I told DH that we finally have medical proof that I am as delicate as The Princess And The Pea Princess, and should be treated accordingly!

"Fetch me my tea!
And an extra pillow or three!"

It was special, different but special. I even had some solo time.

Heh. That's what Mom says
about me.
"Different but special."

Hoping yours means good, too.

This I can do. My family tells me I'm a real good nag.

No need now. I'm there!

Yikes! I'm going to be on pins and needles until then.

Sounds painful. Or itchy.

Like any proud Mama I have some share.

ariel-2-jpg.315033
ariel-3-jpg.315034

WOW!!

No, seriously. Wow!
1. Beautiful (but you knew that.)
2. Terrific costuming!

I've never tried whipped cream. I don't know if it would have the right consistency. Might not be thick enough.

Okay! Got it!

Yeah sure.

Sausage should not be cooled. Mix it hot so the creme cheese melts in. Spread the warm mixture on the crescent roll dough.

Got that too! :)

I got one from Boatwright's years ago (when they still served breakfast) for their french toast. Basically french toast with lots of cinnamon and sugar dumped on it. So good! And so good for you! Will have to go home and look it up.

I'm not holding my breath! :snooty:
You promised me a pie recipe
and that never happened either!

Great! See you at the end!

Well, now that's stuck in my head all day.

Good.
You have any idea
how much of a pain that was
to count all the do's?

If there's one thing I hate, it's fake sheds.

It's where all your
fake friends live!

More like hubcaps.

::yes::
Exactly what I thought...
Then realized they couldn't
call 'em that since bikes
don't have them.

Or you could, like, buy an iPad or something.

:rolleyes1

I don't think my body is capable of bending like that.

Have you tried?
I could help.

If it's free, it's for me!

::yes::
You could even picnic afterwards
with PB&J sammies on the grounds.

I can see where that would be useful. Like on my stationary bike.

Here is a bike on stationary.

You're welcome.

Depends on how well it holds up.

If it breaks... can you just sew it
back together???

I wonder how many was a few too many?

I watched the documentary
that was on a couple months ago.
It showed them stopping when
a good friend of theirs was killed.

Then again... it's TV, so...

I like how the Knievel bike was posed.

::yes::

Only one that was like that.

 That's cool!

I know, right??

I remember that one!

I'm glad you do,
because I didn't!

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:You and me both, pal.

I'm more worried that they'll get one look at me and take off.

I almost did that once.
I went to a DISmeet just a little
East of Washington DC once
and almost turned around and
walked out.

But the guy had brought his kid
and I didn't want to disappoint him.

You should have led with this!

Nope. Dessert is at the end. ::yes::

Sold! I'm in.

I'm not kidding.
It was that good!

:rotfl2: Very relatable.

The verb "To scarf"
comes to mind...

I'm working on a strongly-worded memo as we speak.

Can't say as I blame you.
At all.

Oh, man. Sorry to hear that. Poor guy.

Yeah. :sad1:

:sad2: I can see why you like him.

::yes::

::yes:: Don't know if I can respect a fake shed, though.

That's okay.
It was a fake sponsorship.

Yay!

Replies for me (on this and other TRs) will be delayed as I prepare for your arrival and a weekend full of DISmeets!
And prepare you did!
The yard looked very inviting.
And I enjoyed meeting all the kitties! :goodvibes
Thanks for all the effort and
time you put in for us. :)

So, I'm here! I'm back! Sorry I was MIA for so long.

Rebecca! Hi! :welcome: to the TR!!

Missed you though!

I missed you too!
Whatcha been up to?
How's Moose?

Can't wait to read more!

I've got a passel of TRs
to catch up on,
but I'll be writing
as soon as I can. :)

When I saw your part about visiting with Smidgy & Nebo, a lightbulb wen off and I think I may have sent you a PM.

I got your friend request on FB.
Just be advised that I spend
very little time there!

Can't wait for more!

Coming up!

Weeeee I just caught up. It looks like you are having a blast.

::yes:: Absolutely!

It's amazing that bikes have come so far!

From bicycle to Hog. ::yes::

I don't know how you do so much driving, I get tired just think about it.

I like driving.
Especially highway.
I find it (usually) relaxing.

Maybe I'm just tired from the exam period grind but regardless.

How's that going?

It looks like you had a great start to your trip.

Not too shabby!

As soon as I came back, I was out for a couple weeks! But I'm temporarily back now! Damn work got in the way. I was in Paris, FR at the end of March for work

I looked at that for a loooong time.
Paris, FR?

Food and Rhine?
Fisney Rand?

oh.

and that meant that all my normal work got piled up...

Yuck.
One of the things I like
about my job.
There may be new procedures
and memos to catch up on,
but typically, there's no
"piling up".

which took me the better part of 7 work days to climb out from...

Man. Not envying you there.

and then I decided to book a very last minute trip to WDW while my wife is going to be in Orlando for a work conference (free hotel!!!).

Nice!
Free is very good.
I tag along on some
of Ruby's work trips too.

So while I'll be around for a few more days -- I'm about to go dark while at WDW. I'll catch back up sometime late next week.

Okay! Have a good trip
and I'll see you on the flip side!
