Canadian Buffoon's DISmeet vacation - 09/14 - Bowled Over

pSphUfx.gif

I knew you'd be thrilled.
I pretty much posted that
just for you.

I didn't even know what a cowling was.

Cow and cowling.

How can you NOT like calzones???

No. Not a calzone.
A calzone is a folded pizza.
Oven baked.
This was deep fried, I believe.

Although -- while I was in France, DW and I did a tour of Versailles and we stopped at a brasserie close by (obvious tourist trap in retrospect) and the outside eating area was mostly full and the pizzas looked pretty good, so we decided to stop and eat before catching the train back into Paris. DW got a margherita pizza and I opted for the calzone. I THOUGHT it said ham and beef --- but upon cutting into it, I actually got a ham and egg. Apparently the menu said oeuf and not boeuf as I had thought.

:lmao:
Oh, for the loss of a "B".

So back to your story -- I have enjoyed every calzone I've ever had until that one. Runny egg inside a calzone is just not a good thing for dinner. Especially when you're expecting ground or sliced beef.

No... I can see that!

This is one that I often make on holiday mornings.

Breakfast Pot Pie

That looks good!
And not hard to make, either.
Thanks!

Sounds yummy! I might have to try this one. Once I get caught back up!

Let me know if you do!

Sure! I've been to my share of auto and motorcycle museums!

::yes::

I am aware of that! In fact now you remind me that the year I went to Kansas City and toured the plant was 2003 because it was the 100th anniversary amd I remember Fran buying a bunch of shirts since it was a cool reason to get them.

Cool!
And that is a good reason!

Somehow I do not think gravity would be on your side. Plus without spokes in your tires, you may have a problem.

I'll let you know. ;)

I would not have noticed them from my phone. Thanks for pointing that out. Interesting abput the doors.

You're welcome.
I didn't notice them
at first, myself.

I'll have to make sure to tell Fran to bring her card if we ever go.

::yes::
I didn't mention it,
but they also give you a free
medallion.

It's interesting how those early bikes were just that. You see that with the original Indian bikes as well.

I guess because bikes have been
around for such a long time.
The thought was always
to motorize them...
not create a separate beast.

At least I think so.

I wonder when rubber became the standard? (Too lazy to google.)

Only thing I found
(I'm too lazy to Google for long.)
is the early 20th Century.

They probably had a contract to fulfill and even though the war ended, they wanted their payment.

That's pretty much what
I figured too.

Weird. Optical illusion.

::yes::
But cool.

The first thing I look at when I see a bike is the engine, to see if it is a Harley or merely a crotch rocket.

Huh! I never thought of that.
I always look for the branding.

I totally get that. I've been to some pretty extensive museums and st some point you do get burned out.

Yeah.
Some museums are just too big
or too extensive.

Nice to "meet" her!

It was!!

Really? Usually (and I know you don't have a uS cell phone) I am texting back and forth in the hours before, so there isn't much doubt.

Well, now that I have one,
I can do that too.

I have never had the pleasure of tasting Key Lime pie.

 Never?!?!?!?

Go! Find some place that
makes it and go!!!

Yeah, and Fran ate the whole box of Maple biscuits while we were at the park Monday.

She snoozes and you loses!

No problem. You gotta do that sometimes. I did for most of Thursday and Friday.

As did I.
Probably should write
a bit before I forget... everything.

What? Only 175 miles? :lmao:

 I know!
Don't worry...
I'll make up for it.

I can't believe you never made crepes. They're so easy!

I have no idea why not! :confused3

I saw the false shed, but looking from my phone I have been able to spy a second one. Maybe I'll get a chance today.

Okey dokey. :)

Boom! Caught up!

Here, anyways.

Now to catch up....

Everywhere else.

Well you're pretty much caught up on my TR, I've done responses but no updates since last month!

ETA: Well that changed when Fran didnt get out of bed today until 3PM. I had already edited and uploaded my pictures for the next update so it wasn't hard to string it all together while she slept. It was just a bunch of food from DLR back in November, so now I'm in the update crowd!

I'm not holding my breath! :snooty:
You promised me a pie recipe
and that never happened either!

Ok, ok! Fine. This has been one of those "out of sight, out of mind" things. Happens to me a lot.

Simple Key Lime Pie

1 pack (8 individual) graham crackers, crushed
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 stick melted butter
2 14-oz. cans sweetened condensed milk
1 cup key lime juice
2 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 Tablespoons sugar

  • Combine 1st 3 ingredients and press into 10" pie pan
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes
  • Mix condensed milk and key lime juice in bowl with whisk until blended
  • Pour mixture into crust
  • In another bowl, beat egg whites with cream of tartar at high speed until foamy. Gradually add sugar and beat until soft peaks form (2-4 minutes).
  • Spread meringue over filling and bake at 325 F for 25-28 minutes
  • Chill 8 hours overnight.
The crust sometimes sticks to the pie pan when serving, so it can lack in presentation. However, the crust is really sweet and the pie tart, so it works together really well.

Port Orleans (Riverside) - Boatwright's French Toast

1 Cup milk
1 loaf baguette (or bread of choice)
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. vanilla
butter or oil
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
syrup or butter as desired

  • Combine milk, eggs, 1/2 cup sugar and vanilla.
  • Mix until blended.
  • Mix 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon and set aside.
  • Cut bread into 2 inch slices.
  • Dip in milk/egg mixture.
  • Place on a hot skillet with oil and fry until golden-brown on both sides.
  • Remove from pan and roll in sugar and cinnamon.
  • Add syrup to truly destroy your teeth.
  • Buy good toothpaste.

Good.
You have any idea
how much of a pain that was
to count all the do's?

Sounds like you put yourself in deep doo-doo.

Have you tried?
I could help.

But then I wouldn't be able to get OUT of that position.

You could even picnic afterwards
with PB&J sammies on the grounds.

So...yay?

I almost did that once.
I went to a DISmeet just a little
East of Washington DC once
and almost turned around and
walked out.

You should have. Nothing good was going to happen there.

But the guy had brought his kid
and I didn't want to disappoint him.

He would have gotten chicken & waffles anyway, so he would have been fine.

The verb "To scarf"
comes to mind...

With pie involved? Absolutely!

Good! One that I can catch
up on quickly!

So much for that!
Looking forward to reading/seeing it!

I guess it's somewhat ironic that I added in the FR because I figured you'd come back with a wise remark asking if it was paris, Texas.

Don't be silly.
I'd never dream of doing that.

I would have, however, asked if you meant
Paris, Ontario, Canada or Paris, Yukon, Canada or Paris, Idaho
or Paris, Maine or Paris, Kentucky or Paris, New York or
Paris, Missouri or Paris, Tennessee or
Paris, Virginia or Paris, Arkansas

that means I'm practically famous now.

That's impractically.

Apparently IMS is used quite often - I had never heard of it before, or if it had been mentioned to me I disregarded it. I told my physiotherapist today I'm not sure if it's working or if it's placebo effect, but as long as it's not hurting let's go for the gusto!
I felt the same way.
"Well... if feels weird...
but not painful, so... what the heck!

Don't forget Perris, CA. Although it loses something in print.

I'm sorry.
What were we talking about?

Simple Key Lime Pie

Thanks!
Question. I don't know if we carry
Key Lime Juice.
Can I just juice some limes?
Or is it a more sugary juice,
like a store bought OJ?

And this is my problem how?

So...yay?

Sure!
Let's go with "yay".

Oh, I dunno.

See?

I dunno. I wasn't paying attention, either.

Thanks!

Well, Julie is the one who makes this. My only role is to encourage her to make more so I can eat it.

I would guess that you could juice some limes and maybe add some sugar to make it work. We get the key lime juice off the shelf in the grocery store, so it probably has more sugar in it. But I don't really know.

I knew you'd doo that.

To do is to be.
To be is to do.
Dooby-dooby-doo.

Oh, I dunno.
The chicken and waffles were good.

So you have that going for you, which is nice.

Hmmm..... I'll look...
but I've never seen it.
Maybe I can Google a substitute.

Dood. Just stop.

So you have that going for you, which is nice.
