Canadian Buffoon's DISmeet vacation - 09/14 - Bowled Over

Fell in love with this model as a little girl in the late 70's.

I had to stop and
re-read that.

You fell in love
with an 82...
in the 70s????
And then I read...

This is the last year they made the C3 and it is the only year of that generation that had an operable rear hatch (I do believe).

Ah! Now I get it.

I love grey/steel grey/gun metal grey, etc. on cars. Go figure - of the 3 new cars I have purchased in my lifetime....none of them are grey. But I did sway hubs to buy his truck in grey. lol

"I like this. So you get it."

(he did convince me to get my first vette in black....and I'm glad).

You're glad?
Why?

I guess 3 qualifies for a few. We have 3 bays now and actually park all three vehicles in the garage.

Nice. :)

It got worse...
but now it's getting better.

Gonna be a while
before I'm (almost)
back to normal.
Oh no I hope it doesn't cause you to miss your upcoming road trip and all the dismeets as I know that you really enjoy the drive.

I had to stop and
re-read that.

You fell in love

And then I read...

 It was perfectly clear in my head  That's funny - I re-read it and it does totally give one a 'huh?' moment.

You're glad?
Why?

We intend to keep it forever (or as long as we can drive) and I think black is a timeless color. I didn't want the bright red - I was leaning to the sparkly dark red. I think I would have tired of that color over time...but who knows.

Gonna be a while
before I'm (almost)
back to normal.

Take care of yourself - back issues are no fun and you've had more than your fair share.

Oh no I hope it doesn't cause you to miss your upcoming road trip and all the dismeets as I know that you really enjoy the drive.
I don't think so.
Still planning on heading out.
But I may have to slow down.

I agree!

I didn't want the bright red - I was leaning to the sparkly dark red. I think I would have tired of that color over time...but who knows.

Hmmm... maybe?
Hard to say.
Or... you may have
loved it forever.

I guess you just
never know.

Take care of yourself - back issues are no fun and you've had more than your fair share.

Must admit.
It's.... depressing.

The morning found me
in Bowling Green
and the National Corvette Museum.
I can say that because
it says so on the building
that I photographed.

Seems legit.

What do you call a group
of corvettes?
A roar of corvettes?
A blur?
A zip?

How about a garage?

want...
want...
want...

Is there an echo in here?

So.... you get to pick one of the above.
Which do you pick?

Hmmm...I really like the look of this one:

DSC04822_zpsye33ntn6.jpg

While I found them interesting,
I wouldn't want one.
Guess I'm more into the classics.

Respect the classics, man!

Jelly of the Month Club. Got it.

Back in 2014,
a sinkhole opened
up in this room
and swallowed
eight corvettes.

:scared1:

If memory serves,
they won't fix all of them.

Well, dang. That's a shame.

I had met Liesa
(@Steppesister )
previously when I
was on my father/daughter
trip and visiting Alison
(@franandaj ) in California.
She had put out
an invitation to one
and all for dinner
at her parents' house and...

How could I say no to that?

Great question! It's free food! :rotfl:

That makes her the DISer
I've met the most,
although that will change
this fall when I revisit Nebo
and Smidgy.)

Wow, you mean she's willing to see you more than once? Are you sending her checks in the mail or something?

Sorry, total DIS TR fail.
Not a single photo.

:sad2:

I was a guest in someone's home
and it just doesn't feel right
to start snapping photos of the food.
I didn't do that earlier at Nebo & Smidgy's
and I didn't do it here either.

That makes sense. A little weird in somebody's house. Like you're going to put a review up later on Trip Advisor for "Liesa's Parents' House".

I got directions from him,
and after dinner, when I took my leave
(no... I did not dine and dash, thank you.)

Oh, really? How much was the bill? :rotfl2:

John Magda fought in
the battle of Midway in WWII
and was shot down, and ditched
in the Pacific.
He floated in a life raft
for five days before being rescued.
After the war, he flew with and
was the commander of the Blue Angels.

Wow. Quite the eventful life. Like our buddy Louie Zamperini!

This aircraft type
was the world's first supersonic trainer.
And as such, it was useful
as an astronaut trainer
and chase plane for Nasa.

Very cool.

The above plane, that exact plane,
has been flown by every single
Gemini, Mercury and Apollo astronaut.
You may recognize the names
Gus Grissom, or Alan Shepard.
John Glenn or Neil Armstrong.
They all flew this plane.

No way! That's awesome. Standing in the presence of history. The NASA programs of the 1960's and 70's remain one of mankind's crowning achievements.

(A group of campers set up
their tents on the beach.
Every day, when the cook would
ring his bell, people would eat and throw
food to the dolphins that would occasionally
swim just off-shore.
The cook began to call out:
"Dinner! For all in tents and porpoises."

I eventually arrived back home
where I started to plan my next
road trip.

Darn right. I only go to work so I can pay for the next vacation.

Thanks everyone for reading along
on this long, but fun trip.
I met (or re-met) some wonderful
folks. Some whom I hope
to meet again soon.
Hope you enjoyed reading it
as much as I enjoyed writing about it. :)

Always. Thanks for writing about your travels. You make a great virtual tour guide. It's always a great time heading out for an adventure with you. I look forward to the next one!

Did you see it in this chapter?
Oh, you probably did.
Did you see two of them?
Yeah, you might have.
But something tells me you
didn't see all three of them.

I got all 3...eventually. Do I need to call them out or keep them a secret?

Your back never does have good timing, does it? Tho I'm not sure when is a *good* time for one's back to go out.

I would tell you to take care of yourself, but I suspect you will overdo it anyhow...

Seems legit.

Not like I know
photoshop or anything.

How about a garage?

That works. ::yes::

Is there an echo in here?

NOPE.

nope

nope

nope

Hmmm...I really like the look of this one:

Good choice.
You really couldn't go wrong
with most of them.

Respect the classics, man!

::yes::

Jelly of the Month Club. Got it.

That's the gift that
keeps on giving.

Well, dang. That's a shame.

I guess they're just
too far gone.

Great question! It's free food! :rotfl:

 Right!

Wow, you mean she's willing to see you more than once? Are you sending her checks in the mail or something?

:lmao:
I actually did!

That makes sense. A little weird in somebody's house. Like you're going to put a review up later on Trip Advisor for "Liesa's Parents' House".

:rotfl:

Well, they'd get 4 stars
(or whatever max is.)

Oh, really? How much was the bill? :rotfl2:

Wow. Quite the eventful life. Like our buddy Louie Zamperini!

I thought of him, too!

No way! That's awesome. Standing in the presence of history. The NASA programs of the 1960's and 70's remain one of mankind's crowning achievements.

Completely agree.

:rolleyes1

Darn right. I only go to work so I can pay for the next vacation.

I work to live...
I don't live to work.

Always. Thanks for writing about your travels. You make a great virtual tour guide. It's always a great time heading out for an adventure with you. I look forward to the next one!

Thanks, Mark. :)

I got all 3...eventually. Do I need to call them out or keep them a secret?

Up to you.
No contest involved. :)

I can say that because
it says so on the building
that I photographed.

Well they say "photos or it didn't happen" so I guess it did!

Hmmm... murder of crows...
parliament of owls...
smack of jellyfish...
prickle of porcupines...
(a personal favourite of mine)

What do you call a group
of corvettes?
A roar of corvettes?
A blur?
A zip?

So what did you decide?

Well... they looked fast.
They certainly didn't move
overly much.

They did move once,
a few years back...
But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Ahhhh, yes, I remember that.

want...
want...
want...

Actually as nice as they are, I'm not a huge Corvette fan.

So.... you get to pick one of the above.
Which do you pick?
Man... that is a tough call.

Actually it's not for me. I don't really care for the post 1960 ones. Marvin is looking at the ones I like the best.

There were also these
concept 'Vettes.
While I found them interesting,
I wouldn't want one.
Guess I'm more into the classics.

Yeah, see comment above.

Back in 2014,
a sinkhole opened
up in this room
and swallowed
eight corvettes.

I totally remember that. Everyone was posting that to my FB page as they knew Fran and I liked cars.

I had told Liesa when I would
be passing through
and the times coincided
so I said I'd drop by.

Yes, I do seem to remember that too.

Liesa made a lasagne and
a caprese salad.

Is this where you finally tried the Caprese salad?

I was a guest in someone's home
and it just doesn't feel right
to start snapping photos of the food.

I'm sure Liesa would have understood....

I got directions from him,
and after dinner, when I took my leave
(no... I did not dine and dash, thank you.)
I headed over to check it out.

But what i find amazing is that after dinner it was still light out. You and @Captain_Oblivious eat early, or is that Liesa's desired dining time? The sun is usually setting before we get on to eating dinner.

Right in Bowling Green, down an
unassuming road, lies a very small
aviation park.
Just five planes.

While I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, I was kind of like, "Planes...."

I still had about thirteen hundred
miles to go, but...
Nothing at all happened.
I drove all day, with occasional
stops at Harley shops,
and an overnight in Minneapolis.

I eventually arrived back home
where I started to plan my next
road trip.

I think you owe us a trip to WDW still... :rolleyes1

Did you see it in this chapter?
Oh, you probably did.
Did you see two of them?
Yeah, you might have.
But something tells me you
didn't see all three of them.

I saw the airline advertisement in the shot with the '76, and then Marvin seems to have commandeered a plane as well. Plus the aforementioned shot.

Well they say "photos or it didn't happen" so I guess it did!

::yes::

So what did you decide?

An "unaffordable" of Corvettes.

Ahhhh, yes, I remember that.

Made international news.
Well.... at least North American news.

Actually as nice as they are, I'm not a huge Corvette fan.

I'm not a huge fan of the 70s models on up.
If someone gave me one, I'd happily take it though.

Actually it's not for me. I don't really care for the post 1960 ones. Marvin is looking at the ones I like the best.

He has excellent taste.

Yeah, see comment above.

::yes::

I totally remember that. Everyone was posting that to my FB page as they knew Fran and I liked cars.

And you were like:
"I don't care!
Let the whole place
sink into the ground!"

Yes, I do seem to remember that too.

::yes::

Is this where you finally tried the Caprese salad?

Hmmmm….

I'm not sure, now.
I may have had it prior,
but I don't recall now.

I'm sure Liesa would have understood....

But would her parents?
Nope. Not going to risk
being rude.

But what i find amazing is that after dinner it was still light out. You and @Captain_Oblivious eat early, or is that Liesa's desired dining time? The sun is usually setting before we get on to eating dinner.

Hmmm...

I know we ate reasonably early,
but...

I seem to recall seeing fireflies when I left.
I did stay until mid morning/early afternoon.
So I think I may have seen it the next day.

While I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, I was kind of like, "Planes...."

Okay, you can skip that part.

I think you owe us a trip to WDW still... :rolleyes1

It was a pretty quick trip
with not much memorable
happening.
Not sure if anyone would
really be all that interested.
I've written about Disney
a fair bit already.

I saw the airline advertisement in the shot with the '76, and then Marvin seems to have commandeered a plane as well. Plus the aforementioned shot.

::yes::

loud and shiny.

This one is my favorite! I love the retro feel and color.

Back in 2014,
a sinkhole opened
up in this room
and swallowed
eight corvettes.

I had a sinking feeling about this.

But a guess a blessing since it improved attendance. Because everyone wants to see a sinkhole swallow up corvettes!

I had told Liesa when I would
be passing through
and the times coincided
so I said I'd drop by.

I arrived at her parents' house
and said my hellos.
Her folks turned out to be
really nice people
and I had a very nice visit.
Liesa made a lasagne and
a caprese salad.

Boy that was good!

Sorry, total DIS TR fail.
Not a single photo.

Wow you met the family! That's so nice!!
The DIS is all one big family, and how you've met the extended family!

Now...
The last aircraft just... blew me away.
On the surface, it's not that big a deal.
The T-38 Talon is a trainer aircraft.
It will never be used in combat.

However.
This aircraft type
was the world's first supersonic trainer.
And as such, it was useful
as an astronaut trainer
and chase plane for Nasa.

And frankly, it gave me goosebumps
just being in its presence.

Woah, that's super cool. :worship::worship::worship:

THE END

Thank you for sharing pkonz!! Can't wait for the next one!

What do you call a group
of corvettes?

A craving of Corvettes?

She had put out
an invitation to one
and all for dinner
at her parents' house and...

How could I say no to that?

That is fantastic!

Meeting her Dad, especially,
had a fringe benefit
that I wasn't expecting.

Liesa's dad told me about
something, and when I heard
about it, I knew I had to see it.
I got directions from him,
and after dinner, when I took my leave
(no... I did not dine and dash, thank you.)
I headed over to check it out.

Right in Bowling Green, down an
unassuming road, lies a very small

Wow! How lucky and amazing that this was right around the corner from where you were and even more surprising that it wasn't on your radar.

Thanks for taking us along on your road trip. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Wishing you safe travels!

:car:

I walked in and was
immediately smacked
in the face with a passel
of corvettes.
Well, had you been smacked in the face by a passel of Ford pick up trucks, that building would have been poorly named.

So.... you get to pick one of the above.
Which do you pick?
Man... that is a tough call.
I appreciate the look of cars. But to be honest, I've just never been a car guy. I definitely like the older models as opposed to the newer ones (something that cannot be said for everything).

Back in 2014,
a sinkhole opened
up in this room
and swallowed
eight corvettes.

Wow, that's incredible. Too bad they aren't able to repair all them.

The above plane, that exact plane,
has been flown by every single
Gemini, Mercury and Apollo astronaut.
You may recognize the names
Gus Grissom, or Alan Shepard.
John Glenn or Neil Armstrong.
They all flew this plane.

That's history right there folks.
And frankly, it gave me goosebumps
just being in its presence.
Very cool. I'm fascinated by the space race and the early astronaut program. Or the present one, for that matter.

Hope you enjoyed reading it
as much as I enjoyed writing about it. :)
Always entertaining. When and if you do another, I'll be sure to tag along.

The good news?

I can walk.

It hurts, when I do...
But I can do it.

I hate having a
bad back.
Still... at least I didn’t
throw it completely out.

It got worse...
but now it's getting better.

Gonna be a while
before I'm (almost)
back to normal.

:sad1:

I wonder how your trip will end up being affected. EEK!!!

Wow, you mean she's willing to see you more than once? Are you sending her checks in the mail or something?

How else do you think I can afford to fly?

That makes sense. A little weird in somebody's house. Like you're going to put a review up later on Trip Advisor for "Liesa's Parents' House".
