Dessert before Dinner: a trifecta of dining reports? Update 9/22 LTT COMPLETE!

First of all, let me say Carter and Hayden are absolutely adorable in every sense of the word. You and Steve are so incredibly blessed.

Second, LOVE the holiday magic bar. YUM! Now that I've had one I am craving them thanks to you.:P

Carter and Hayden are adorable. I'm glad that they can visit you often. :)

Ricky looks good in his SAT picture, although they should have let the kids smile just a little. I hope he gets plenty of playing time this year.
We won't talk about the final year of high school, yet. :(

We just finished up our 7 nights at WL CL. We ate all but one breakfast and one dinner in the lounge. The food was very delicious and we really enjoyed chatting with all the CMs who work there. They are the friendliest group of CMs in all of Disney, imo. :)

I needed to get my Magic Bar fix so stopped in Roaring Fork.
I finally bought my first Magic Bar the night before we went home. Dana and I devoured it at the airport the next day. I think I should have tried these tasty treats a lot sooner. ::yes::

Imagine my excitement when I saw a HOLIDAY VERSION OF MY MAGIC BAR

Fancy!!!!

Thank you ❤ They are like automatic sunshine when you're having a bad day!
Second, LOVE the holiday magic bar. YUM! Now that I've had one I am craving them thanks to you.:P
::yes:: I ALWAYS crave them lol and will figure out a way to get at least one next week :thumbsup2
Carter and Hayden are adorable. I'm glad that they can visit you often. :)
Thank you! We are absolutely lucky- saw them Sunday, Hayden stopped over yesterday and they'll be over again this Sunday. It's never ever too much!
hope he gets plenty of playing time this year.

I do too; we'll see later this year. Tryouts will be in mid-November so I'll be a bit stressed until then. And after he drove to school for the first time yesterday we definitely won't talk about the final year :sad1:

I was reading your posts here while you were away and it sounds like your post-retirement trip was wonderful :goodvibes I agree about the CM's at the WL in the lounge; the times we've stayed up there Steve and I have both had some great conversations with them and the service is top notch. I am looking forward to my stay there next month even though we won't be doing club since it's for work
I finally bought my first Magic Bar the night before we went home. Dana and I devoured it at the airport the next day. I think I should have tried these tasty treats a lot sooner. ::yes::
Ha ha you should have! I haven't found one person I've told about the magic bar who doesn't love it
I've never tried the magic bar! I'll need to change that in December!
YES! Make it a point lol! And try it at the beginning of you trip so you have time to eat lots of them
Fancy!!!!
It tasted just a tad bit better than the regular ones lol!

But this year I especially don't want the first day of school to come because it's Ricky's LAST first day of school before college and that makes me sad, excited, scared all at the same time not to mention making me feel old!
Aww, I can imagine the kind of mixed emotions that came with that day! How did it go? And, to squash your feelings of feeling old, I can say that now that I've actually met you in person and can no longer just say how youthful you look in all your pictures, you are just as young-looking in person! Whatever you're doing, keep it up! Maybe those Bloody Marys at AK? :rotfl:

we needed some food to be strong enough to make the trip from the WL to the MK
It's a long journey, after all

Dang it. I completely meant to try a magic bar in August! :headache:Grrr. Next time!

Hello my friends! Welcome to another of my dining reports. That's me up there, the lone lady, with my boys: Ricky (16), Chris (13), and my DH Steve. That picture is from our family Thanksgiving trip last year, after which I had all intentions of starting a dining report. Did. Not. Happen.

That's me again! With Steve, on our January 2019 trip last month. After which I had every intention of starting a Nov/Jan dining report and came up with the cute title with "Dessert before Dinner" in it figuring I'd do January first while it was fresh in my mind. Get it? January-dessert, before November-dinner! Clever :) Did. Not. Happen.

Us last week on my last minute birthday visit! During which I swore nothing would stop me from doing a Jan/Feb. dining report. And maybe, just maybe, I'd throw in a few Nov. dining reviews at the end, because we really had some crap ones that trip along with 2 great ones!

THIS.IS.HAPPENING!!!!
So pull up a chair, grab a drink, and feel free to follow along on whatever reviews I decide to post! Happy to have you along!
Following along....err sorry for posting everything you already posted (like quote) Im not sure how to post wuthout doing that. So I apologize.

Aww, I can imagine the kind of mixed emotions that came with that day! How did it go?
It went good for both of them :thumbsup2 Of course they were both exhausted by yesterday lol

Aw thank you  I appreciate that! I looked like a sweaty mess that day too!
Dang it. I completely meant to try a magic bar in August! :headache:Grrr. Next time!
No excuse for that :snooty: lol! Put it on the list!

Hello there and :welcome: no worries about that you're fine! I'm lucky I manage to get my TR and dining report titles linked into my signature and I won't even tell you how long it took me to figure that out
Love your trip reports. Our next trip isn't for a bit so Im living vicariously through your reports:flower:
Oh thank you!! I appreciate that. I like reading reports in between trips too as it gives me ideas sometimes!

Happy weekend friends! We are just about to the end of this report and that's just about perfect timing since we leave in a week for our next trip! That will be for F&W so you can be sure there will be another dining report in the near future! In other news we have our first 2020 trip booked :goodvibes We'll be there when the Festival of the Arts starts on January 17th and are staying through the 22nd, and we'll be joined by our good friends Jenny and Joe @Jenny Sanders AND Renee and Chad and their adorable boys @ArielSRL!

I feel weird writing about our next dinner because I just wrote about it in my July TR the other day; of course different dinner 8 months later but lots of the same foods so if you read that; feel free to skip this! On the other hand if you didn't read it, love signatures, have never been to a Disney signature or just enjoy food porn continue on...............

After my magic bar snack and a little more relaxing and eating in the lounge we got ourselves fancied up and took the boat to the monorail and the monorail to the GF to what has seriously become the signature we frequent the most; Narcoossee's. It also has a bit of a discussion going here as far as the bad service many seem to receive but in all our many visits that's never been the case for us. This dinner last Nov. was great as was our dinner there this past July. It's Chris's favorite and his constant request.

Narcoossee;s is situated on the water around the back of the resort so you need to walk out the back of the main building to get there:

IMG_0213.JPG

Can't wait to check in here next Saturday! Anyway once we were seated they brought us our bread. It's not the greatest or most imaginative bread - not like Citricos kalamata olive bread - but it's good and the sea salt makes it better:

IMG_0216.JPG

Were you dying to see a picture of butter or what?? Drinks were in order also and while Steve got his go-to I got a wine I'd had first at another Disney restaurant and enjoyed:

Banfi PiemonteRosa Regale

  • Sweet
  • Red
  • Sparkling Wine

IMG_0217.JPG

First I show you butter and then I make you squint lol. It's also not currently on the Narcoossee's menu so I did my best to find a description of some type. This wine is super sweet and now that I've grown up a bit and have moved from Moscato to Riesling I find it a bit TOO sweet. Oh I do still like Moscato though but the Banfi is a little too much. At the time it was perfect though.

We ALWAYS order apps here so that was up next! Ricky did skip one though but Chris got these:

Crispy Rhode Island Calamari
Peppadew-Banana Pepper and Olive Relish with Tomato Coulis

IMG_0218.JPG

I think this may have been the 2nd time he ordered this and he loved it as did Steve who helped him eat it! The sauce was a tad spicy and that's how they like it.

I got something I'd definitely had before:

Artisanal Cheeses
Four tasting portions from around the world with Prosciutto and Accompaniments

IMG_0219.JPG

IMG_0220.JPG

Want to know what the best part was? That prosciutto  While I have indeed met a prosciutto I have not liked this was not the case here. As for the cheeses if I remember correctly the gorgonzola and La Tur were my favorites. I did want more crostini though since Ricky ate half of mine.

As happens sometimes Steve tries going healthy and started with a salad that does not appear to be on the menu now but I also don't remember any complaints:

IMG_0222 (1).JPG

On to dinner! We were served in a timely manner but not too close together so we were ready and waiting when our entrees came. Here's where the pictures kind of repeat themselves from our meal this past July:

Chris never ever veers here because it's the reason he comes!

Grilled Grass Fed Filet Mignon
Yukon Gold Mash, Sautéed Baby Summer Squash, and Red Wine-Oxtail Reduction

IMG_0223.JPG

As you will see though they were not serving summer squash in November lol. I used to get this all the time also until I found something else on the menu. Chris feels this is the best filet in all of WDW and he's had quite a few; I'm at my picture limit so I'll continue this in the next post

To continue where we left off here is the aftermath of Chris's dinner:

IMG_0228.JPG

A kid after my own heart leaving the veggies! You understand how he feels about this filet ::yes:: Honestly I feel almost the same way although Citricos is my #1 and that's why the last few times we've eaten here I've gotten away from their filet in favor of pasta:

Wild Key West Shrimp and Campanelle Pasta
Savoy Spinach, Oven-roasted Tomatoes, Basil Pistou, Comté Cheese, Chardonnay-Garlic Cream. Also available with Sautéed Chicken

IMG_0224.JPG

I got this with the chicken in July but in November went meatless 😁 The sauce is amazing and while it was hard to not get the filet pasta is hard to find in TS restaurants, for me at least, other than a couple Italian ones so I don't eat it often down there and enjoy the change and the dish. When I get the chicken it's tender and has a nice flavor.

At least Ricky and Steve's Nov. dishes were different than July! Steve got the filet in July but back then he got the swordish:

Pan-seared Line Caught Swordfish
Toy Box Tomatoes, Marble Potatoes, Basil Aïoli

IMG_0225.JPG

He thought this was fantastic and even told our server in July how great it was back then. It was a toss up in July between this and the filet but he wasn't quite in the mood for fish. When he did get this he hadn't had swordfish in years and was happy he tried it again.

Ricky always gets the pork here but it's changed in type and presentation about 4x in the last 3 years. Here's what he got back then:

IMG_0227.JPG

Here's whats on the menu now:

Grilled Milk-braised Berkshire Pork Chop
Braised Red Cabbage, Warm Fingerling Potatoes, Quinoa Salad, and Sauce of Spiced Winter Apple

It looks like red cabbage but no potatoes and not a pork chop but whatever, he always enjoys whatever pork incarnation they have. As I said we had a wonderful meal with wonderful service then and this past July and won't hesitate to go back despite recent rather negative reviews which I really hope go away! Steve and I still prefer Citricos as far as a favorite signature and we also LOVE Tiffins and had another fantastic meal there last month; however we're excited to try Jiko for the first time next week too!

But we weren't done! After we watched HEA from the deck we went back inside for dessert. I was a little chilly so I got a cappuccino:

IMG_0229 (1).JPG

I got my usual which you really need to get if you go there:

Almond-crusted Cheesecake
with Lambert Cherry Sauce

IMG_0231 (1).JPG

I always say the same thing about this; how perfect it is lol. It's like the old Good Humor Toasted Almond bars I used to get from the ice cream trucks in our neighborhood and the cherry sauce plus the cream altogether = :cloud9: Steve has gotten it but usually its just Chris and I and Ricky, who doesn't like cheesecake, goes for this:

Narcoossee’s Candy Bar
Dark Chocolate-Mocha Bar with House-made Guanaja Chocolate Gelato

IMG_0230.JPG

This is ALL chocolate ALL the time and as I wrote in my TR he never quite finishes it; I would never NOT finish it because it's a mortal sin to leave chocolate behind. It's even an initiative the government started a few years ago: NCLB which is No Chocolate Left Behind 🍫 It's dark chocolate and funny enough he doesn't like dark in real life but has no complaints or qualms about eating it in Disney.

We rolled ourselves out of there and our night wasn't over; this was our last night and I had something I hadn't seen yet over at HS and the kids were even up for going. I did take a couple holiday decor pictures on our way to the bus downstairs; since most people show pictures of the gorgeous gingerbread house in the lobby I took a picture of what goes in to making it which is appropriate for a dining report!

IMG_0233.JPG

Everyone also posts pictures of the very statuesque GF lobby tree so instead I'll post these:

IMG_0242.JPG

IMG_0244 (1).JPG

These made the grand staircase look even grander! I don't have room for pics of what I wanted to see for the first time at HS but in case anyone is wondering I'll post pictures in my next update when we're finally at our last day :worship:

It went good for both of them :thumbsup2 Of course they were both exhausted by yesterday lol
Oh I'm so glad! Yeah... getting back into the school swing of things can be rough - I remember

No excuse for that :snooty: lol! Put it on the list!
Consider it on the list! I will not make the no magic bar mistake ever again!

First I show you butter and then I make you squint lol
:rotfl:

Exactly! And I'm a huge believer in leaving not a trace of chocolate behind no matter what! It's a mortal sin, indeed! :snooty:

That will be for F&W so you can be sure there will be another dining report in the near future!
YEAH!!!! I can't wait to hear what to get! We are going Oct. 24 - 27th

or just enjoy food porn continue on...............
Me!!!!!!!

Banfi PiemonteRosa Regale

  • Sweet
  • Red
  • Sparkling Wine

I love everything about this... Giant name, giant space and and then teeny tiny picture!

Crispy Rhode Island Calamari
Peppadew-Banana Pepper and Olive Relish with Tomato Coulis

IMG_0218.JPG
I love Rhode Island style with the bananna peppers.

This looks so good everytime you post it. And I think salmon would be delish in there. (for me at least)

Wait I'll be there then too :rotfl: But it's for work the 23-28th and I really won't have any free time. I'll be at MNSSHP on I think the 24th? And then probably in Epcot at night on the 27th but not sure yet. Are you bringing the girls or is this your adult only trip?? I need to catch up here!
I love everything about this... Giant name, giant space and and then teeny tiny picture!
I am always surprised when one of my pictures is either gigantic or small lol but at least I know how to get them posted!
This looks so good everytime you post it. And I think salmon would be delish in there. (for me at least)
You guys should try it especially on an adults only trip!

Yum! I love calamari.

I love filet mignon, it's usually my go to at restaurants.

This is such a good dish! It's what I ordered when I went here, but I got it with shrimp. So good.

IMG_0229 (1).JPG

I got my usual which you really need to get if you go there:
I love cappuccinos. I found out when I went to Italy that you are never supposed to drink these after the morning. They kept telling me it made me clearly a tourist lol.

We are just about to the end of this report and that's just about perfect timing since we leave in a week for our next trip!
I hope you have a great time and it isn't as hot this September as it was last year. I remember how excited you were about the mountain of pixie dust that you received that trip. ;)

This is ALL chocolate ALL the time
Sometimes there is just too much chocolate. ::yes:: I little vanilla ice cream with that amount of chocolate does the trick. ;)

I did take a couple holiday decor pictures on our way to the bus downstairs
The last time we stayed at the Grand Floridian we didn't get our room until 5:40pm. We spent a lot of time hanging around the lobby and I came to appreciate how gorgeous the decorations are. It really is beautiful at Christmas time. :)
