Diabetes Questions

I was just recently diagnosed with type 2 in December. We are planning a trip to Disney around Thanksgiving. I have a few questions.
1. Will I be able to carry my blood testing kit into the parks with no problems? Is there any thing - like a dr's note that I need to bring?
2. How flexible are the menus? Like if something comes with BBQ sauce- how much trouble is it to get them to hold it?
Any tips you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, welcome to disABILITIES.

As far as testing items, etc., are concerned. With Type 2, especially if you can be controlled by pills and not insulin you will find that by December you can test only once or twice a day, or even skip days. I was diagnosed type 2 about ten years ago; currently I will only test every third day (per my doctor's recommendation). However, I am also very aware if I am having a sugar low.

You might want to clear with your doctor a couple of weeks ahead and see what is needed by then for testing. Anyway, I have never had any problem even in bringing in syringes.

As far as menu flexibility, you can't be in a better place. iabetics are the least of the diet problems that seem to surface at WDW. Just have it noted on your redservations when you make PSs and let both the person at the podium and your server know. Normally the chef will come out and work with you to resolve any problems.
 
You should have no problems carrying any needed medical-related item. On your flight, carry-on all medications and equipment, keeping meds in their prescription containers. Carry snacks for possible hypoglycemia, and be aware of now heat, humidity and exercise may affect your numbers.

I've never had a problem carrying my testing supplies, insulin, needles, etc into the parks. I was asked once or twice what it was, but that's it. I can't really help with the food issue because, since I'm Type I (and the type of insulin I'm on-not all Type I diabetics can do this), it doesn't really matter what I eat as long as I can figure the right amount of insulin to cover it.
 
I have never had a problem carrying my supplies with me either. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Will be carrying them this trip because I've been having some problems with lows and need to check more often.
