I’m back and although this trip report has been ambling along for a month, we are only about midway through our first full day of this trip. When we last left off we were just finishing up at Hollywood Studios. That was our only time at HS for this trip. I love HS, but there just isn’t that much that we like to do there, so one quick morning visit was enough. I do love all the street shows and could hang around all day watching them, but not in the midst of the August heat wave.
We boarded the boat with a minor wait and headed back to the BC. As we entered the lobby we saw Teena and Dee which made it feel like coming home.
Once back at the resort, we took a moment for a drink and cookie break in the Solarium. I’ve always felt like we were more Team YC than Team BC, but if we aren’t staying CL, I think the Solarium is the one thing that would have us choose BC over YC every time. Loved having that room to eat our breakfast or snacks from the Marketplace. As much as I love YC, it doesn’t offer such a nice place to stop and sit for a bit.
While we missed our son on this trip, we may possibly have missed our dog even more. Every time we went to the Marketplace we would stop and make puppy noises at the dog in the display window. It reminded us of our dog every time we saw it.
Here’s a gratuitous picture of our dog.
Now it was time to head over to Epcot as we hadn’t been in the park yet on this trip, and we had a dinner reservation to head towards. Our first stop in Epcot on a warm day… Grey Goose Slushies of course! No need for a refillable mug, we drank those babies down on the spot!
We were headed to Mexico with time to spare, so we leisurely checked out France, Morocco and Japan along the way. I’m always surprised at how much is going on in Morocco and there is plenty of items to browse in Japan. We were also working our way around the world as they were setting up for Illuminations so we too had to wait for the drawbridge to go down. I was interesting to see a behind the scenes peak at the set up process.
Once the drawbridge came down it was off to Mexico for our dinner reservation at San Angel Inn. We loved this meal. The food was amazing and I love the atmosphere. Inside Mexico is a magical blend of chaos and peace. There is so much going on (drinking, shopping, eating, boating) and yet it has a complete sense of calm. We ate our meal at a nice table overlooking the water. No food porn, but I did capture our pre-dinner drink.
When we were done eating we hopped on the Mexico boat ride. This is a seriously lame ride and we wouldn’t go out of our way for it, but it is a fun diversion when you are trying to avoid going back out into the heat. We followed the ride with some shopping and then it was time to wind our way back to the resort for a very important meeting.
We normally don’t spend a lot of time in the shops, but this trip exploring the shops meant getting a dose of air conditioning, so as we wandered back to the BC we popped into one store to watch the glass artist create an Olaf.
And just before we left Epcot we took a photo at one of our favourite spots to photograph our son. Another moment where we missed him.
Here are some more photos from this area, in my last trip report.
What was next in our day?… an epic DisMeet!
I’ve thought about how to best describe our meet(s) and I realized I couldn’t match Dee’s reports, so I’m going to direct you
here to read Dee’s version of the day. I will add that it was so great to meet everyone. I was a bit tentative about meeting all these strangers from the internet, but everyone was great.
- Disneymomx7 and YCFan were both as wonderful as you can imagine. So nice, and so experienced in all things WDW. They were both nice to meet.
- As mentioned earlier, HockeyMomR and her mother were great and I’d be happy to spend more time getting to know her, if I get the chance.
- TheMagicalOne was nice and had some great wisdom and stories to share.
- What’s not to love about natebenma and her prolific goat stories? Throughout the meet I continued to discover more and more things that Dee and I had in common.
- Mommyrosa and her daughter were lovely. We should all be so lucky as to have a child as nice as hers.
- ScottMC and JNPants were good fun to chat with and hear what things they love about WDW.
- Tarak and her little Things were fun. I look forward to travelling the country once she gets her VW Van on the road.
- NinjaMom was as fun as expected and was also my voice for the meet, allowing me to fully be an introvert and just listen to the conversation. She is an expert observer and although this trip was our first meeting she was able to describe me to the group with amazing accuracy, right down to knowing that I would pick Mary Poppins as my favourite character.
- And of course, I loved spending more time with Teena. Those lobby meetings are great, but there is so much great conversation to be had with Teena so having some extra time with here was amazing.
The DisMeet was so enjoyable that I was happy to tag along on the
post meet session at the Crew’s Cup and my husband came to join us as well. It was a really nice ending to the day.
Well that is enough for this report… here’s a photo hint of where we head next.
