Direct first then resale or other way around?

We are considering taking the plunge and buying at BLT. We were offered a 100 point contract at BLT by Disney. We would could buy that first and then look for a smaller resale contract to add points. Or we could buy a resale contract and then add points directly. Would we have to buy 100 points if we are adding on to a resale contract or is the required amount lower? Thanks!!

It all depends on what you want to spend honestly. Your budget will dictate the way it should be done. Add-on contracts with Disney are a 75 point minimum, it used to be 25.

IMO, I would look for resale first. See what's out there that catches your eye. Those contracts are negotiable for the most part whereas a deal direct with Disney isn't. Also, resale will probably come in significantly cheaper.

You can probably still add on a small number of points, but the minimum for direct perks is now 75 points.

Current members may add on 25 points with the exception of Copper Creek which is 50 points. As mentioned it now takes 75 directly purchased points to qualify for benefits but you can get there over time in 25 point increments if that works best.

It's usually easier to buy resale first since there's a variety of contracts out there so you aren't tied to a UY yet and have the flexibility to search a few for a contract that is appropriate. When buying direct they will match up to your existing UY that you got resale. If you bought direct first then you'd most likely want to match to that which will limit your options. Although if you are thinking of a Feb UY that was the most commonly sold at BLT so you'd have more choices.

Related question: We are current DVC members with the "perks," bought this February directly through Disney. We are looking to add on with another resort through resale. We won't "lose" our perks, correct? We already bought 150 for AKL through Disney.

Correct you only lose the perks if you sell the original contract or upon DVC expiration of that contract (2057)

Correct. Do not sell the direct contract associated with those perks and you will stayed grandfathered in no matter what else you buy or sell.
