Feeling a little overwhelmed

I’m planning on changing my name after the wedding. How long does this usually take? We are going to be booking a honeymoon cruise a stay at Disney world so I’m wondering what I should do about my name on the reservations. I’m guessing Disney world won’t be as difficult, but will it be an issue with the cruise?

If you’re doing your honeymoon immediately after your wedding, the cruise definitely should be booked in your maiden name, as should any flights as you won’t be able to change your name until your marriage certificate comes. We had ours back from Brevard county about 3 weeks after our wedding. After that the process to change my name took another couple weeks but it wasn’t bad.

We did a cruise on the dream after our DFTW and then did a stay at AKL and I registered everything in my maiden name as far as hotels and flights. We added a note about being on our honeymoon for dining reservations and our cruise reservation and got lots of pixie dust and congratulations, and our room host on the cruise called me Mrs (husbands last name) after confirming we were on our honeymoon but my maiden name was on my cruise documents.

It’s not that disney is being difficult but if you register with your married name and needed to show ID it wouldn’t match. While at the hotel that might not be the hugest issue, you cannot get around the requirements on a cruise.

Why don't you do the first round of trying on dresses with your mom? Then you can have a second round with your friends so they can see the final contenders. When DD was getting married, this is what we did. I also made a point of taking pictures of her in all of the dresses (front, back and side view). She found this very helpful because some of the dresses that she loved looking in the mirror looked very different to her in pictures.

1. STDs. There are some places where it’s worth it to splurge and some where it’s worth it to save money. Save the dates are a save money item. Most guests will see it, put the date in their phone and then toss it. For that reason we did STD postcards.

2. Dress shopping. Do it once with your mom and once with your friends to make everyone happy. Put your favorites on hold and go back for a second look either by yourself or with your friend whose judgment you trust the most. This way you won’t be pressured into buying a dress that isn’t you.

3. Alterations. The bridal studio should be able to tell you how easy it will be to alter your chosen dress if you lose weight. You need to buy for your current size because if something happens and you can’t lose the weight you still need a dress.

4. Hair and makeup. A trial run is really important because, for example, your definition of “natural” makeup may not match the makeup artist’s. Bring hair and makeup inspiration photos along with photos of the front and back of your dress. If you’ve picked out jewelry and hair accessories I highly recommend bringing them.

5. Bridesmaids. If you have a friend who either brings the drama and creates work (demanding a bm proposal counts) I highly recommend finding a diplomatic way to sideline that person. I had a bridesmaid like that and I later greatly regretted having her as a bridesmaid.

It could be an issue with the cruise, but they may accept your old passport/passport card + your marriage license to prove you changed your name. It just depends. I would call the cruise line to be sure- you don’t want to take a chance with something like that! I’m waiting about 3-4 months after the wedding to change mine until after our cruise and that gives me time to get everything settled before changing it.

I have a HUGE list of name change stuff. I have moved all my Disney files up right after SSN & DL. I am NOT looking forward to this process.

@JFox oh I know, me too! I was married once before and had to do this process once already lol and it was AWFUL. When I got divorced, everyone kept asking me why on Earth I wasn’t changing my name back to my maiden name. I kept telling them I didn’t want to go through that mess again, only to possibly get married again in the future and have to do it a 3rd time!

Oh my gosh that Fast Pass Save the Date is too cute!
But I'd love to help if I can!
While it wasn't a wedding done on Disney Property, my "forest princess" wedding happened back in 2016. We were on a super tight budget, so we really called out to our friends and family for help on a lot of things.
I went looking for my dress not even a week after I got engaged, I had most of my bridesmaids there, my mother, and my mother in law. While they had a lot of opinions, I was happy to have them all there. You just have to focus on staying true to what dream dress you have in mind. And mine actually ended up being the first one I tried on! It just took me putting on like 10 other dresses to realize that haha. If you're planning on loosing weight before the wedding, I'd let your dress consultant know when you go shopping for one. They have an extenive knowledge of their dresses, and can help you pick out ones that would be easy to alter. I went with a laceup back for that same purpose.
And as far as "formally" asking your bridemaids. To me it just seems silly. Sure there are a lot of creative ways, but my bridesmaids were just as flattered to be verbally asked to be in my bridal party. I think it's actually kind of rude for someone to insist that you buy them somthing just to ask if they can be your bridesmaid.
If you have any other questions, feel free to message me! While I can't really help with the Disney property aspects, I can help with a lot of the little nitty gritty things.

Our plan at the moment is to do a Caribbean cruise in January (wedding is in November) as a mini-moon and then in August do a European cruise as the main honeymoon/1st anniversary trip. We really want to do Europe for the honeymoon, but cruises don't go until the summer so we figured this way we could celebrate right away so one of them will actually feel like a honeymoon. So I guess it would make sense for the January one to have in my maiden name and wait to change everything until after we get back. Then have it in my new name for August. Can I book that cruise under my future name before it's actually been changed? I can't remember if you have to put in passport information right away or you do that when you're checking in.

Good points. I made an appointment with David's Bridal this weekend with my mom. Hopefully this will give me an idea of what type of dress I'll like and then I can go back later with my bridesmaids.

I just ordered some sample STD (this is the worst acronym LOL) Of course I found one I think looks super cute but is ridiculously expensive. I have an appointment to start dress shopping this weekend with my mom. Everyone on here convinced me this is probably a good way to start. I need to start making phone calls for the makeup and hair. I definitely agree a trial is needed before the wedding day.

It does seem like a lot of work! Guys have it easy not having to change anything

Lace up dress is a good idea, that way it can be pulled tighter, I'll look for that. I wish food didn't taste so good this wedding diet is hard lol. I told my friend who was insisting that I'm not formally asking her. I just don't have the time to figure something out while I'm trying to juggle a million other things. She wasn't happy, but not much she can do about it. I'll get them all something cute on the wedding day. Thanks!

It's your wedding and your dress, do what feels good for you! I took my mom, sister and 2 friends (and my niece tagged along) to go dress shopping and it was great! I also picked my first dress! I second the idea to take pictures of the dresses. There was one I liked, but my party didn't, turned out it was only interesting to me because I could make it move, didn't understand until I saw the picture.
I'm also trying to loose some weight, but I already ordered my dress and have my first fitting later this month! (wedding is in April)

About hair and make up, what I did was look at the galleries of different options to see which matched the (natural) style I wanted best. Somebody already said to bring pictures, but before, see if they do the style you want

Relax! It's supposed to be a fun experience, not a stressful one!
I feel like I'm going to be trying on a million dresses. I'm feeling a little calmer now that the holidays are over and I can fully focus on what I need to get done. I'll make sure to take a lot of pictures in the dresses. One of my main reasons I want a really pretty dress is because I'm doing the photo session in Magic Kingdom and I want those pictures to look really pretty. I'll take a look at some makeup pictures to get an idea of what I'd like.

Thanks everyone you're all super helpful and I'd be lost without you :)

Ugh I'm frustrated. So yesterday I was ordering a bunch of sample Save the Dates from different websites. I was on Zazzle.com and found like ten I might like and changed the info on them to show mine so I could see how it looked. I got an email late last night saying my order had been cancelled because I'm not allowed to have the name Disney World on it? Since I'm getting married at Disney World that makes things a bit complicated for sending the cards. I emailed them back about it, pretty frustrated I really liked some. Has anyone experienced something like this before?

I know @Disney_Alli did too. I think she ended up just saying Orlando with the resort name (Boardwalk)

Is this a thing?

Just went on Etsy and found this and it doesn't seem to say anything about not being allowed to name WDW.

I had something similar happen to me on Etsy. I designed my koozie favors with a shop and they had Mickey and Minnie heads on them. When I went back a few weeks later to actually purchase them, the shop told me they could no longer print ANYTHING with Mickey or Minnie on it due to new copyright laws *eyeroll*. I was so upset because I loved the original design, and I had to settle on something totally different. I feel your pain!

Ugh, so would I put wedding pavilion? Or Grand Floridian. I feel like some of my older relatives up north who never go to Disney won't even understand where my wedding is.

I'm not sure about Etsy, we sent them an email yesterday for a sample and haven't heard back yet. I'll ask.

This is super annoying.

I know on the wedding site for Disney they have wedding invitations linked to some outside company. Is that company allowed to have Disney World listed?

I ordered Save The Dates and RSVP, Wedding Favors, Unity Candles, Wedding Programs all from Etsy.

They didn't have an issue writing Disney World on the invitations?
I actually had my friend do the invitation then sending it to vista print.

The only other things with Walt Disney World on them were the Save the Dates, Pre-RSVP and Wedding Programs. However, this was almost 4 years ago.

Yes they have the license for Disney paper items, etc it’s Themes Come True. They are pricey but they can do a lot other places can’t. We used them for out Escort fast pass cards. For invitations Carlson Craft has a limited license. You can’t ask them to do anything they don’t all ready have but they do have a pretty nice selection of Wedding items.

I just talked to my wedding consultant and she mentioned that the Themes Come True is the one they recommend. I guess it was in the million PDFs they sent me. Strange thing I noticed with that, I ordered a sample from a different website and the exact same one is on this website. Does that mean the website I ordered it off of stole the design?
