DH and I are going to CA the beginning of Aug!! This will be my first time and I'm so very excited!! We will be going to San Diego and visiting the zoo while we are there. Any ideas, tips or suggestions??

This is only a short trip...actually a business trip for DH and I am going along.

There are a few places I never miss in San Diego...

Anthony's Fish Restaurant. It's really good, both the fishette and the sit down restaurant. The sit down is right on the harbor, so if you plan it right you can watch the sun set over the ocean.

great unique shopping, great salt water taffy

Children's Beach is covered with seals to watch :goodvibes

Balboa Park (where the zoo is) has TONS of neat museums. Some museums are free on Tuesday; this is the free Tues schedule

Scripps Aquarium is really neat...

There are a few outlet centers not too far from the zoo.

You can spend all day at the zoo just in front of the monkey and gorilla exhibits and not even realize it. The pandas is a LONG walk downhill down a STEEP hill. Make sure you plan accordingly; it is tiring to do at the end of the day. Remember the animals are awake first thing in the morning and then late into the evening. The zoo has late summer hours, so you can always get your hand stamped, skip out on the afternoon when the animals are asleep, and come back.

The kids meals are HUGE. It's more food than my child can eat, but it's the perfect size for an adult. They get a hamburger, small drink, raisins, cookies, and something else, I think. I can't remember right now. DH and I have gotten 2 kids meals and split them between our 2 kids and us perfectly fine. The adult meals are XL, too. You and your husband can easily split a hamburger or sandwich unless you are big eaters.

have fun! August isn't that hot usually in San Diego, but it can get a bit warm right after lunch. In the late afternoon an ocean just as expensive as breeze usually picks up and that is refreshing.

Thank you so much for all those links!! I am hoping to go to that beach with the seals! That would be so cool!!

Thanks again!!

Seaport village is a nice place to walk around. Of course there are the Zoo, Sea World, and in Escondido (i think thats the city) there is the Wild Animal park, its like going on a safari in CA!

I like the Seaport Village area as well, and there is the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown, not much for kids but if it is just you DH then you might enjoy it,

I've been to San Diego 4 times in the past 10 years and every trip was in the summer. One thing you can bank on is sunny 75-85 degree days. Here are must must-do things to do in no particular order...

Coronado - have to see the Hotel Del evry trip. I love to jog that beach in the morning.
Point Loma - great cliffs and amazing sunset views. Also great seafood (cheap) restaurants here. See Rachel Ray $40/day for tips on where to eat here.
La Jolla - one of the most beautiful areas I have ever seen. I have kayaked here the last 2 trips and it was AMAZING.
Petco Park - if you are a baseball fan this is one of the best parks in the country.
Old Town - most underrated part of SD. Great place to eat (cheap) and grab margaritas at night.
Gaslamp District - I'm not a huge fan but I'll hang out here before baseball games.
Zoo - I am probably in the minority but I thought the zoo was overrated.
Sea World - Again, I am probably in the minority but I thought it was overrated...and over priced.
