This thread and the previous " Would you pay $3.00/$4.00 entrance fee - local pin meet?" are hopefully informative to any local pin meet organizers

Here is the latest on the pin meet venue search...

I went to the Somerset Library and Somerset Community/Senior Center this afternoon. The library has no rooms for meetings and the Senior Center has many rooms but a long list of requirements that must be met. Number one on the list is a major problem for any pin meet organizer.

Requirement #1: Every individual or organization using the center must provide the Township with a Certificate of Insurance, which shall name the Township additionally insured in the amount of $1,000,000 per occasion and $100,000 property damage.

The insurance as a separate policy is nearly impossible to get from an insurance company unless your club is an organized group like the Boys Scouts or Girls Scouts. The other option is an insurance rider on a home owner's policy. Neither John nor I would have someone do this, since your asking a person to put their house "on-the-line" and potentially lose it in a lawsuit.

In addition, the cost for the Senior Center room is $150 per meeting. That cost is fairly reasonable in comparison to other facilities, but the insurance is a major roadblock.

Suggestions: Some suggestions that have been made are community rooms in condo complexes. A good suggestion, but there are a number of hurdles at condo complexes too.

1. Someone in your group has to live in the complex.

2. You can't book very far in advance and some only allow one meeting per weekend, so you may not be able to get a weekend that you want.

3. The insurance you have on your condo has to have the appropriate amount of liability insurance in case something goes wrong during the meet (same issue as above, no one wants to lose their condo in a lawsuit).

4. The cost is about the same as some of the more reasonable meeting places. (Nothing is cheap in the Northeast).

Potential Good News:

John, Missy and I are going to the Residence Inn this evening to meet with the Sales Manager. Considering that their fee is in-line with other meeting places and they don't require insurance it may work out. The cost to a pin trader for this location would probably be between $3 - $5.

For those who asked about the location, here is a link to the Residence Inn in Somerset - http://www.marriott.com/dpp/PropertyPage.asp?MarshaCode=SOSFT

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions,
