I can't wait for more details on the opening of this ride. We are planning on being at WDW end of March.

For mickeys runaway railway, what are thoughts on whether this attraction will be virtual queue or fast pass + ?

Unless there are major software issues like RotR I am not expecting a Virtual queue.

Like MFSR I also am not expecting FP+ to be available for the first few months.

But who knows!

Were FP+ immediately available for SDD? I do not remember.

This is the problem I'm going to have. We'll be onsite during the opening, but would like to know how they are going to address the opening logistics. If it goes the FP+ route, we should know something next week right?

I am hoping to try this while I am there, (I allocated most of a day at DHS for this) So, I am trying to be aware of what is happening, it will be my top FP if such is available.

I believe CL FP+ people have weighed in and said it is not available to them so it will probably be excluded initially. Right now I am planning two very early DHS mornings for the spring because there is so much uncertainty. One morning will concentrate on RotR and one will be this ride. Hopefully I get on whether ie be virtual queue or regular standby!

If there is no FP for MMRR, I am wondering if the wait times might be like Millenium Falcon (i.e. the wait times drop from mid-morning on, so the shortest wait time might be in the late evening).

I have no problem with no FP+, but it does make purchasing a new AP that targets this attraction's opening challenging. Perhaps I am naive enough to think I can do both RotR and MMRR on the same opening day (ouch!).

The Great Movie Ride will close August 13, 2017. It will be replaced by Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway. The attraction will open in 2019. The ride will use new technology and a 2 1/2 D affect.

Our first Mickey-themed ride-through attraction, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, is opening in 2019 – and we have new, exciting details to share!

During D23 Expo Japan, Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, announced the opening year and showed how we’re pulling out all of the stops to make Mickey’s first attraction an unbelievable experience for everyone. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will feature a new catchy theme song created especially for the attraction as well as a new experience that defies logic that we’re calling 2 ½-D. No glasses required.

On the attraction, the fun begins when you see the premiere of a new cartoon short with Mickey and Minnie getting ready for a picnic. As they head out, they drive alongside a train and find out that the engineer is Goofy. Then, one magical moment lets you step into the movie and on Goofy’s train for a wacky, wild ride.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will put you inside the wacky and unpredictable world of a Mickey Mouse Cartoon Short where you’re the star and anything can happen. And for the first time, we shared a preview of what the cars will look like when you board the attraction for a zany, out-of-control adventure filled with surprising twists and turns.

The teams helping create the attraction are currently working with partners at Disney Television Animation—the people who create the popular and award-winning Mickey Shorts – to keep the characters and story authentic and to make sure you’re able to step through the movie screen and join Mickey and his friends like never before.

I liked the GMR. It was one of my favorites. The trend seems to be to remove the attractions appealing to adults and turn them into kiddie rides. I don't like it. Hollywood Studios was always interesting to adults and kids alike.

I know nothing, but, it seems like BG make sense for something like ROR because of the nature of the experience. Would it really work in the same way for MMRR?

Well you are boarding a train. So the naming works! All aboard!
