He Just Came For The Food: A March 2018 Dining Report *update 9/22 S. Hollow/GF Cafe

I’m on my phone, which makes it difficult to quote, but I laughed quite a few times during your report! I didn’t get a chance to have those Pecos Bills nachos this year, but I remember being pleasantly surprised by them (for a quick service quality) when I did have them in 2017.

Those eggs are so pretty!

Must say I was confused by your update title because I was wondering what kind of eggs Pecos would be serving for lunch :P

Oh but on the way out we stopped at Starbucks (#puttingmyboysthroughcollege). I share with you the best picture I've ever taken; our breakfast sandwich:

img_8537-jpg.341423
That sure is a beautiful picture. Really making me wanna run to my local starbucks right about now :-)

img_8552-jpg.341425

These were mine, all mine. Not sure where the tomatoes were that are in the description but I was ok without them and I really enjoyed these. Were they the best I've had? No, and in Disney that distinction goes to the Pulled Pork Nachos at Tambu Lounge/Capt. Cooks. But the beef was seasoned nice and the queso was good, and I ate these down to the cardboard container bottom.
Glad you finally got to eat at Pecos. I'm pretty sure I've never been there, unless you count grabbing a snack at the Christmas party which I'm guessing doesn't actually count. As you know we aren't huge quick service fans but this looks pretty solid. Now if you could only wash it down with a cold one....

Everyone was happy with their burgers and everyone got some toppings from the toppins' bar.
Toppins' bar.
Fixin's bar?
Homecomin'?
You're stretching or is it stretchin? :P

I have no idea what this painting is but have seen it in Frozen so many times I didn't realize it was a real portrait. We clearly have mad culture skills.

This is amazing. Love the rhino at the bottom.

Yay! Wizard of Oz, one of my favorites! And reminded me of GMR, RIP :sad1:
Ugh, me too :sad2:

I have always enjoyed my nachos from Pecos Bills, my husband has the same paranoia about buffets and potlucks scare him to death:rotfl2:

I enjoyed the toppings bar, Miss the free guacamole on it:sad1:

The eggs are beautiful! Artists just astound me in ways I don't understand because my stick figures are, well, disfigured. To have the talent to produce something that beautiful, especially when the paintbrushes are chocolate and edibles. I especially liked seeing the Oliver and Company one, not because I'm a huge fan (truthfully, it makes me cry too much) but because it hardly ever gets any recognition. Thanks for sharing.

Too bad about Peco Bills, but I'm allllll about going back to CHH more. It just always seems to be my favourite quick service.

Those eggs are AMAZING. The detail...wow!

Glad you enjoyed HDDR and especially the AYCTD sangria :drinking1
Your September plans look great again can I mention how jealous I am you’re staying at the Grand ;)
Hope you do get to try House of Blues

Joe and I walked around and admired the eggs too!!! The attention to detail blew my mind (and I agree, Pinocchio does NOT get enough love in the parks)...

Fox and the Hound! Saw that movie in the theater as a pre-teen who had just gotten her period and I cried man, I cried.
Oh man, in the car on the way home today, Morgan started crying because she was tired. And I swear it was.... TMI... I don't have my period yet, but my body is creeping closer to that and I just can't handle it. Oye! Help me... Sorry I went off on a tangent.

EGGS-ACTLY WHY IT'S NICE TO GO AT EASTER, CON'T

Again, what I do for my friends who love what I don't understand!
I appreciate what you do for us!

We shopped a little, went to Basin of course, and then returned to WL.
Does the Basin at GF have the same things as the one in DS? We have never gone in but Gwen now has a love of bath bombs. So, I feel like we should go in one next time.

Pecos Bills is always a solid quick service. Especially for MK...

I'm really enjoying your TR! I saw you're going in September; I'll miss you by two days (I get there on the 19th, just me and DH for the first time in over 20 years without kids!). Also it's our first time for F&W which is why I booked it (we're at the Dolphin this time).

I don't think I have read your reports before , but signing on . We have ordered the Kitchen sink at Beaches & Cream and remember the fanfare when they bring it out , it was great !!

Is this the bacon, egg and Gouda? That one is my favorite :hyper:
Yes! Although now they have those little 2-egg thingy's, can't remember the name which says a lot about how much I pay attention to my husbands' job :rolleyes1 but anyway they're these 2 round egg things, one kind is covered with bacon and one has cheese and peppers. OK to make a long story short - I like these almost as much as the bacon, egg, and Gouda sandwich now!

I feel like those (which I do love) are in a different subcategory of nachos. There's like at least these subcategories: Tex-Mex Nachos, Nachos from Places With Numbers on the Menu, Bar Nachos, Theme Park and Ball Park Nachos, Unique Nachos, Dessert Nachos, and Totchos. I *might* have a nacho problem.
:rotfl2: :rotfl: I peed my pants when I read this, even though #truth
"You got shrimp gumbo, fried shrimp, shrimp on a stick, shrimp and grits, shrimp sandwich, shrimp scampi, breaded shrimp, raw shrimp, peeled shrimp, you got your jumbo shrimp...................................................."

"Disney TA banned from parks after vandalizing candy displays at flagship resort"
:hyper:

although they are missing a sales opportunity by not selling jellybeans and other Easter treats in the lobby like they do the gingerbread shingles
That's a great idea! They could build a life-size egg out of chocolate a la the GF gingerbread house and someone could stand by it and sell jellybeans or small chocolate Easter eggs with little Disney characters standing inside. We need to get to Disney with this asap! We'll be rich, rich I tell you!!!!

I see what you did there! I love these new titles you've embraced here
Um, have you seen my latest TR update? You'll be in awe

but I laughed quite a few times during your report!
I'm so glad I can still make you guys laugh with my updates

I was wondering what kind of eggs Pecos would be serving for lunch :P
Western omelette? I'm so smart and witty!!

You're stretching or is it stretchin? :P
Well ma'am, I'm goin' with stretchin' ;)

I have no idea what this painting is but have seen it in Frozen so many times I didn't realize it was a real portrait. We clearly have mad culture skills.
I had no idea it was an actual classy painting so you're ahead of me in the culture dept. :snooty: I also wasn't aware of the Frozen reference because luckily, I've only had to watch Frozen twice lol

my husband has the same paranoia about buffets and potlucks scare him to death:rotfl2:
This reminds me of teachers at Chris's school! Whenever there's an event like Teacher appreciation week, they want all food the families bring in labeled because they'll only eat stuff from certain families. And I don't blame them!!

Artists just astound me in ways I don't understand because my stick figures are, well, disfigured.
I'm the same, I can't draw a straight line with a ruler to save my life! Those eggs must take so much time and they must have to work so slow; the patience those artists have to have......nope, could never do it.

I'm allllll about going back to CHH more. It just always seems to be my favourite quick service.
That's how my family feels :) And I always love my food there too, I just like changing it up now and then!

Glad you enjoyed HDDR and especially the AYCTD sangria :drinking1
lol I can't remember ever not enjoying my sangria :D But yes, we had a great night at HDDR and we'll certainly do it again.

Hope you do get to try House of Blues
Me too! I have to check on that again because right now we won't get to MNSSHP by 4 I don't think if we keep the reservation we have now so I have to move it up, but then it cuts in to park time :scratchin

(and I agree, Pinocchio does NOT get enough love in the parks)...
I miss him! When the kids were younger he met with Geppetto, we have adorable pictures of the boys with both of them together! Since then we've been lucky to catch them a couple times at Characterpalooza but that's it; I wish they'd bring them back.

Oh man, in the car on the way home today, Morgan started crying because she was tired. And I swear it was.... TMI... I don't have my period yet, but my body is creeping closer to that and I just can't handle it.
She's not much younger than I was when I got mine, I'm so sorry to tell you!
On another note we had dinner tonight where we met you and Andy :goodvibes Hope you're up this way again soon!

I appreciate what you do for us!
I try! Maybe once SWL opens I'll become.......a small fan????

Does the Basin at GF have the same things as the one in DS? We have never gone in but Gwen now has a love of bath bombs. So, I feel like we should go in one next time.
As far as I know, yes, but I've never actually looked closely. The one in the GF definitely has bombs though.

I'm really enjoying your TR!
:thanks:

I saw you're going in September; I'll miss you by two days (I get there on the 19th, just me and DH for the first time in over 20 years without kids!).
That stinks that we're missing each other!!! And awesome on the adults only trip :goodvibes We started doing that a few years ago and now try to do a couple a year, love them.

Also it's our first time for F&W which is why I booked it (we're at the Dolphin this time).
I hope you have lots of Epcot time planned! F&W is perfect for your first adults only trip :thumbsup2

I don't think I have read your reports before , but signing on .
Well hello and :welcome: glad to have you along!

We have ordered the Kitchen sink at Beaches & Cream and remember the fanfare when they bring it out , it was great !!
One of these days I'll give up my No Way Jose and we'll order it! I do love watching it be delivered to other tables though, and how everyone's eyes get so wide lol

Slowly catching up !!! Very interesting food porn , a lot of things I have not tried !!
Thank you! We try doing a couple new to us places each trip, mixed in with some of our favorites. I have a few more new to us places still do review!

I miss him! When the kids were younger he met with Geppetto, we have adorable pictures of the boys with both of them together! Since then we've been lucky to catch them a couple times at Characterpalooza but that's it; I wish they'd bring them back.

OMG!!! I have pics with Matt with both of them!!!! I also miss Robin Hood. He used to meet with the Sheriff of Knottingham...

I said this over in my TR, but I'm trying SO hard to get that and this done before Steve and I leave for our quick adults only getaway in 29 days :cheer2: I know we all love and look forward to our Disney trips but man, that one is NEEDED. Not our best summer over here, although Ricky is doing really well again with his P/T. We're just all bummed about not going away while everyone else is either "just back" from or "just leaving" for vacation, and on top of it this Saturday is when we WOULD have been heading down for a week at BLT. Ah well, everything happens for a reason, and between our trip next month and then our family trip in Nov., we'll make up for it!
Before I do my next update let me share a few pics from a Sangria Festival my two best friends and I went to on Sunday :drinking1

We went to one last year but this one was at a larger winery, and larger winery=more wine=more sangria!

IMG_8372.JPG

Yeah that doesn't look like much because that's the pour we got; 8 pours for $23. That's actually better than lasts year when it was $21 for 4 pours! The food choices were actually much better this time around, too as were the flavors of sangria, and I wish I took a picture of them.
Here I am with my favorite, the Tropical Sangria - or rather here's my purse. Had to get a Disney picture in!

IMG_8373.JPG

This wasn't a pour, this was the glass I paid for after my pours were used up. My one friend and I finished our pours in like 20 minutes while friend #2 nursed hers.

IMG_8378.JPG

And here we are! Valerie in the middle and Christine, Christopher's Godmother, on the end.

Finally, some scenery as we moved from the covered table to the open area on the edge of the vineyard:

IMG_8384.JPG

IMG_8383.JPG

That's the Hudson River and the "Gunks. I apologize for those of you who I'm FB friends with, I know you saw these!

So if you're aware of my love of sangria, you know I had a good day. Yeah you have to spend # to really drink, but when do you not???

Another Change In Plans: Cape May Dinner part 1
and something Egg-Stra!

Alrighty let's move this along! You all will remember that the night before this, we changed things up and went from Universal plans, to doing HDDR partially due to lack of available Blue Man Group tickets, and partially due to wanting less walking for Ricky. Well Chris pretty much only heard the "doing it for less walking or Ricky" and felt that he was owed a schedule change in his honor.

Our plan had us at Narcoossee's which ironically was his pick! He's a huge fan of the filet there. But for some reason I can't remember he'd been talking about crab legs? And wanted to go somewhere that had them. CMC is where we landed as far as last minute availability! We didn't mind as we'd eaten there before and enjoyed it, so after a small break at the lodge we Minnie Vanned it over to the BC.

Oh but wait wait, on our way up to the room we'd stopped in Roaring Fork for my 3rd Magic Bar :goodvibes and I took a picture of this cute Easter cupcake that had shown up:

IMG_8611.JPG

OK Minnie Van:

IMG_8612.JPG

We arrived a bit early so checked out the eggs again, and noticed a new one hatched since our visit on arrival day!

IMG_8613.JPG

Daisy ended up being one of my favorites. Then over by the bathrooms we found Tink:

IMG_8614.JPG

Finally we saw them "open" Cape May so we headed that way. Since I'm 9 pictures deep here I'll end this post and bombard you with food porn in the next one!

Cape May Cafe Dinner part 2
NO MORE EGGS!
Just Legs
Now that we were in, the eating began! We had a great server from Long Island so there was lots of NY tawk. He'd been working for Disney for about 13 years; I love talking to employees about how long they're there, where they started out, what dept.'s they've been in. Honestly we've never talked to a CM in any dept. who is less than extremely enthusiastic about their job, and I don't think their hiding disappointment for our sake. I don't remember this guys name but he was no exception.

The restaurant was filling up fast so we made our way to the food quickly. Because it was crowded I didn't take buffet pics but I did take pics of pretty much every plate, and by now I've forgotten or am not really sure who some plates belong to......I do know we had a great meal so here I go:

IMG_8615.JPG

First plate belonging to the man of the hour: his hearty helping of the crab legs he wanted:sad2: some salmon and beef tenderloin.
He got super pissed because it took so long to open the crab legs. And decided he wanted nothing to do with them. And Steve yelled lol so Chris worked harder to open them. He did love them, didn't like the salmon, and loved the meat.

IMG_8616.JPG

Steve's plate with peel and eat shrimp, salad and bread, and I have no idea what the little thing to the right of the bread is. I now Steve loved the shirmp because he ate tons of it. We both also kept saying how pretty much every salad we hate was great, and that's also how we felt on our last visit.

IMG_8617.JPG

My first plate, I know because CORNBREAD!! You'd think it'd be the same as HDDR but it's not; almost, and still really good, but there's something more magical pixiedust: about HDDR cornbread lol. I also think the strip loin here is always good and never fatty-that's horseradish sauce with it. The pasta with pesto sauce was ok, not my favorite but not bad.

IMG_8618.JPG

And Ricky's looks-like-a-child's-plate-except-maybe-for-the-salad. He is a mac and cheese freak though and thought this one was fairly good. He was a bit let down with the chicken after the deliciousness of the fried chicken the night before at HDDR, but he loved the caesar salad which is another of his often ordered faves.

What may be the most important dinner picture:
A Schofferhofer for me and Moscow Mule for Steve. CMC even had copper mugs!

IMG_8619.JPG

Chris got some more crab legs :rotfl2:

IMG_8620.JPG

And Ricky went a little wild with his 2nd plate, trying some rice with peas in it!
He didn't like it and he also was underwhelmed with the ribs, again comparing them to the previous evenings ribs. He did like the Cape May ribs last year so I think if we hadn't had them the night before he would have liked these better again.

IMG_8621.JPG

Chris's plate to go with his legs! Alfredo pasta he loved, a rib he loved, cornbread he loved, and his first ever fired clams which he loved.

IMG_8622.JPG

Steve did more seafood for his next plate along with some greenery. He didn't like the mussels so much on previous visits but felt they were less chewy this time and couldn't get enough of the clams. Ricky had mussels too I remember but I don't have a picture.

IMG_8623.JPG

For his final plate Chris went back for more clams and then hit up the kids station for some pizza and a roll. We didn't do much bread but they have like, 8 kind of rolls/breads to choose from.

IMG_8627.JPG

Throughout our meal our server kept our table clean of used dishes and our glasses filled. The restaurant was very busy but he remained attentive and the food was always filled.
Sorry this update is going so long, continued in next post!

One more dinner picture, my broccoli and cheddar soup to show one more non-seafood option:

IMG_8624.JPG
We had a couple more plates of food between us but it was pretty much the same stuff I've shown. I did want to show all that food because many people aren't sure if there will be enough non-seafood items and as someone who eats NO seafood, I always find enough. The soup was good and in addition to always having either clam chowder or seafood chowder they have 1 or 2 other options.

Everyone was too full for dessert initially so I took some pictures of the dessert buffet:

IMG_8631.JPG

IMG_8633.JPG

But then Ricky took a look and decided to get something:

IMG_8628.JPG

Nothing fancy but both were fresh and good. In the past I loved my desserts here, but we had something else coming up for dessert and I didn't want to be full!

I almost forgot to add these in!

One of the things Chris loves about CMC comes after dinner:

IMG_8639.JPG

IMG_8638.JPG
#aboyandhishottowel

He went nuts with this on our last two visits but kept it relatively calm this time because he knew I had my camera ready!

As I said we had a really good dinner here, so two nights in a row of switching up plans last minute and two really great experiences. We were now headed over to HS but had a little time to kill, so we hung out around the Boardwalk for a bit before hitching a boat ride back at the BC

IMG_8641.JPG

IMG_8642.JPG

It was our 2nd to last night in the World and we were doing something fairly new to HS and definitely new to us!

The Daisy egg is so cute!! They are all really amazing.

I love how much Chris enjoys his towels at Cape May. It's the little things that make all the difference!!

While I can't comment on everything, I am still reading and really enjoying all of the photos of the dining you did!

Enjoy that trip of yours! I understand all too well the crappy summer thing and need (no, really NEED) a vacation.

Daisy ended up being one of my favorites. Then over by the bathrooms we found Tink:
I love these, especially Tink!

I am the same way. It's so nice to chat with the CMs and find out a little of their story. I find they are usually very gracious and friendly too. :)

Everyone was too full for dessert initially so I took some pictures of the dessert buffet:
The desserts look yummy too! Sadly, I can't eat as many sweets as I used to but those are nice small portions so it might be ok.
