Sorry I’ve been quiet here lately. I’ve been doing this thing called “work” the past couple of days. It’s not very fun and occupies a lot of your time. I hope this doesn’t last long - way too much effort for me...:lmao:

I have skimmed through every comment though to keep up.

I feel like I keep asking the same questions but we have about 2K in home renovation purchases coming up, plus I’m very intrigued by the whole plastiq busniness 10K thing since we’ll be buying a car in the next week. Could I refer DH for the CIP, pay a 10K auto loan down before May 31 with DH’s CIP via plastiq, then use the other 10K fee free credit with plastiq for a new card for me sometime in June? Bad idea?

Instant approval for Bonvoy Business AMEX card! :jumping1:

Only a couple of days left for no AF the first year, for anyone interested. (offer exp. 3/28)

This thread has been SO beneficial to me! I've been quiet but I have been reading through each post for weeks now and have learned so much. So inspiring! Seriously an amazing group. Just had to share my joy with you! :grouphug:

Next on the agenda - CIP #2 and the grAAvy train. :woohoo:

Congrats party:

Once you have those points do they expire? Should I do it within a year of travel or now three years out? Can you please spell out all of those things you used acronyms for or link the page that has them spelled out?

Last night I was looking for a less expensive China trip that was as inclusive as the ADbD and so far nothing comes close! And I don't just mean the parks and five star hotels.

@Judique answered most of your question and I will add a few more thoughts.

I always say start at least 2 years ahead of time. You are in a good position to be starting 3 years ahead as you can add another layer to your points earning. Chase UR (Ultimate Reward) points don't expire as long as the card is open and in good standing. I would not transfer to an airline until you are ready to book the flights. Sometimes you do have to go to Plan B if Plan A doesn't work out. Airline miles do expire (expiration dates vary by airline but generally 1 - 3 years is the norm unless there is activity. The next layer I would add would be once you have had the CIP for a year, product change the card to a CIC or open up a new CIC if you can make the bonus spend. My reason would be that you could purchase Disney GCs at an Office Supply store which will earn you 5x and then use the Disney GCs to pay for your ABD.

I've done 10 ABD trips and I'd say China has the most bang for your buck. It was an outstanding trip.

I am hoping you will be able to post a review on the hotel thread. I haven't seen this property reviewed by one of our own there. I'd be interested in your thoughts since it is a FL property and on the radar for me as a weekend getaway. Thanks!
I will! We found out today that we got a suite upgrade! I was hoping for an upgrade but I wasn’t optimistic due to spring break. I wish we were getting in earlier on Friday but we’ll get to wake up and see the Gulf for 2 mornings! I’m also curious to find out what the breakfast offering will be for Platinum elite. I’ll fill you in on all the details!

I haven't been to China, but I wanted to add that, while ABD looks amazing, some of their trips could be recreated for less. I wouldn't even know where to begin with China and that's one place where a group trip with someone else doing most of the planning and logistics looks really helpful.

I’m 20 pages behind, caught up a bit today but Epcot calls. The parks are packed. RD at MK yesterday. We always do BTMR first, always walk on. Yesterday, the line was back to the bridge by 9:05 and SM was down. We did Pirates, then Aladdin (saw Jasmine and Aladdin ride before they started meeting guests) then hit the slow stuff like Hall of Presidents and COP. Lines were 60+ for pretty much everything. Hopped to Epcot and had FP for TT and did some “slow”stuff there too. Had a bad day with my knee which involved Disney First Aid and a lot of limping, so taking today slower. Had a great time at AK this morning then came back to Swan at 3:30ish. Scored a FP for IllumiNations tonight so will snack around the World Showcase and end there tonight.

We are coming April 1. How's the weather?

ABD sounds amazing and if I had the funds I’d love to jump in that direction.

But me being the cheapo, a ton can be recreated, including China. I regularly just jump on their itineraries and mirror them, usually down to the hotel (if point applicable). Even the activities can often be booked via UR portal. Well, back before Expedia all but ruined it.

Are you asking if you can use 2 different cards on Plastiq? I personally only used the CIP back in the heyday of the 3% (rip), but I’m pretty sure others have added more than one card with no problem. Your only problem may be getting enough of a CL to put 10,000 on new card. But I guess you may have enough time for 2 billing cycles if you do it quickly.

I have re-created ABD itineraries as well. However, I will say that I was very glad to be traveling with ABD in China when I began to have stroke symptoms. I cannot imagine the logistical nightmare of seeking medical attention in a country where you don't speak the language. ABD did not send me to a Chinese hospital, I was escorted to a clinic after they got a doctor they know to leave her conference and open up said clinic. Everything was top notch and I was so glad I was with ABD. Fortunately the facial paralysis was only Bell's Palsy but that didn't make it any less scary at the time.

We traveled to China with a friend who runs a small tour group every year for big $$ donors and alumni (we are neither lol). I usually recreate/expand commercial tours, but the only way I wanted to go to China was with a tour group or with a native speaker we knew. Dh feels that way about India--and we have a friend lined up :)

I'm planning two DIY trips right now, Rome for the fall (using those fat AA vouchers :woohoo:) and a massive Australia/NZ trip for next fall.

Well, I’m guessing this is a repeat question. What is Plastiq?

Okay, so I’m completely clueless I guess. Sorry! I just googled it. Is it popular among users here? Are there any downsides? I can’t see using it all the time, but might be worth it to meet a MSR.

Oh forgot about CL... hmmm... could maybe refer DH for CIP and I could get a citi biz and we tag team.

I planned our Japan trip on my own and we’ve only paid about $1,500 so far for a 3 week trip. We aren’t doing a lot of the private tours or anything that comes with an ABD trip but we still have a jam packed schedule.

I understand. I just think it makes more sense than ABDs in the US. Personally, China is one I won't do alone but then again I don't think I'll ever get there anyway, so ABDs super high prices don't worry me. I'd love to go, but have breathing issues so it's not a great place for me.

I'd do the same for Japan. It's very different from China.
