Is the Atlantis Excursion well worth the money?

I really want to take the trip, if anyone has done it...PLEASE...... tell me all about it..... from how long you have to stay on the island, and transportation..... and everything along the way!
Thanks!

I did the tour in 2002...myself, ds 9, dd 6. I would not do the tour again. Alot of walking...although the acqurium was very nice...I feel like if you have done one....they are all very much the same. The beach area they took us to was very pretty. It didn't work very well for my 6 year old.....the slope to the water was such she was not able to stand...and with the rough waves coming in....I worried about her safety. I would consider looking into getting a room at the resort so you could use the pools etc. I think we would consider doing that if we went back. I might feel differently about the tour if I had not had the children with me...but, with children around that age.....I think your $ might be better spent looking into getting a room or going over to see the resort on your own.

We did Atlantis on our own in July, as past posts said that the walking from where the water taxi leaves you off was quite far. We took a cab from town for $4 pp each way. It dropped us off right at the door. We got tickets to the dig inside the casino and did the aquarium ourselves. We thought $25 pp was quite steep for the dig (no pool access) but it did allow us to walk through the hotel without being stopped (and they were checking to make sure you were a guest or had a dig bracelet). We spent about about 3 hours there. It was about 20 mins one way with the cab. A cab was outside the hotel when we were ready to leave. We did it once, and were happy we did.
