Jambo! The newest AKL Information thread

For CL, what have been some of the dishes served during "dinner" time? Trying to see if it is enough to make a light meal out of or if I need to make dinner reservations.
Light meal is possible I guess... but after all the walking and all, I find I'm wanting a more substantial meal.

I've been doing some research for our upcoming trip the beginning of December and finding conflicting reports. Can anyone tell me if the standard 2 queen rooms have a daybed? Probably just wishful thinking as I can't seem to get a bunk bed room (our 2 teens of opposite sex are staying with hubby and I). Please forgive me if this is answered elsewhere on this thread - I have looked around quite a bit, but not through all 114 pages. Thanks in advance!

Sooo I apologize if this has been asked before but can someone tell me where exactly the "standard rooms" are at AKL? Are they soley in the locations towards the front of the resort next to dining with parking lot views? Booked our BB offer for next December and want to know what exactly to request room wise. Thanks in advance!!!

I am looking for the same information as we too have a standard room booked. Touring plans shows a lot of standard rooms but not sure if it is correct since many have partial savanna views. If they are I would be very happy with the view.

Yes, agreed. Or if I'm close to the food/transportation I'm also happy with that as well. Anyone have any "standard" experiences to share with us? :)

Search this thread for "people pen". The standard view rooms are classified "standard" for lots of reasons, but at AKL they are often partial savanna rooms just overlooking the fire escape areas on the savannas that are a fence enclosure (hence the term "people pen"). Standard rooms are definitely not all parking lot view and range from parking lot to partial pool view to roof view to a beautiful partial savanna view. I highly recommend the small annual price ($15ish?) for touring plans.com where you can see actual room views, if you aren't willing to slog through all the posts here in this fabulous thread. Hope that helps!

The 2-queen standard rooms at AKL have a small table and 2 chairs; no daybed.

We were in a Jambo standard room 3257, it was a partial savanna room. We were able to see quite a few animals during the afternoon due to 2 giraffe feeding stations. Lots of wildebeests, large birds, Zebra, etc.

Does anyone know if the Sunset Savanna on the Jambo side has Savanna View rooms, or are they all considered Standard because of the people pens?

Last time we stayed we were on the Arusha side but noticed the animals might make it to the Sunset side first in the morning . Morning animal viewing from our balcony is a high priority for us. Nothing better than a pot of coffee, a screwdriver, and giraffes to start the day!

DizDaD7 is still enjoying Kidani and they will be returning home tomorrow.....

Our trip this week we had a pool view reserved. My touring plans request was a room on floor 3 or 4. We ended up with 2nd floor. The view ended up being gorgeous. The texting when your room is ready stuff was not working. I finally went up to the desk and asked for an estimate and he said oh your rooms been ready didn’t you get a text? o_O He had to go in back and came out about 10 minutes later saying there was an issue with their system but that the room was ready. First of many minor annoying experiences this trip.

I have NEVER gotten a text when my room is ready --- I have checked over and over and something just never works. So I obsessively check MDE for room updates instead

look under your plans, click on resort reservation, it will show dashes until your room number is assigned

Thank you! Wasn't there last night, but sure enough it has appeared overnight! So once there is a room listed there, do we even have to check in at the desk if we did online check in? Can we go right to the room?

Where exactly do you see it? I’ve never noticed a room number in my MDE and never saw dashes. This is very helpful if I can figure it out- since we don’t always get the text.

AWESOME! you can go right to the room!

For those of you interested in the food Jambo House Club Level- Currently sitting here enjoying their "twilight offerings". Flaffel, African Stew with broccoli mash, chicken tender bites, a variety of cheese and hummus, fresh crisp veggies, and more..... plenty to make a light meal out of before heading to the parks. Breakfast was also light, but filling. The desserts though...so rich and yummy! This trip was a treat for my mom and I, but I may now be spoiled on how to Disney :)

You can browse through the room views without paying for the subscription. If you want touring plans to request a room for you, then you need to be a member.

Some standard rooms have a bunk bed. Call and ask if you can add this as a request to your reservation.

I checked into a room along the kudu trail over looking sunset savanna. I was pretty disappointed with the view at first because this is exactly the opposite of what I requested (across the hall, different savanna, limited view) but we have been seeing animals ALL DAY! I'm amazed at how much activity is here. We currently have a herd of zebra and 2 giraffes sleeping outside our window! No longer disappointed, this is amazing!
