I'm not sure this site was created for this but I hope my story inspires others and is a tribute to the life changing community the DISboards provide. Saturday at about 2:00 PM my son and his friends were playing in a field behind our house. They had discovered a sharp metal BBQ skewer during their adventure and haphazardly stuck it in the ground as they ascended the neighborhood treehouse. As they climbed they disturbed an incredibly large yellow jacket nest and of course the swarm attacked. My son fell from the latter and landed on the metal BBQ skewer face first. Covered in yellow jackets and with a skewer protruding from his face he ran home for help. It was the most horrendous event of our lives. We rushed him to the ER and were transferred to the best hospital in the Kansas City area. KU Med Center. A team of over 40 Drs, nurses, Surgeons and Specialists worked throughout the night to invent a procedure that had never been attempted before. True medical history. As a man of God I began to lose hope. That night all alone at his bedside I turned to my happy place, my Disney family, the DISboards on Facebook and begged for prayers. Within seconds there were hundreds of responses. I honestly read every single one. Every time my faith started to waver I would simply refresh the page and read the new ones. Your prayers kept me from total and utter despair! As morning came the Drs informed us of the plan and took my baby away to perform a surgery that could end his life or save it. There were no guarantees. Once again I petitioned the site for prayers and once again your support held me stable. By that afternoon the Surgeon returned to tell me that the rod was removed and Xavier would not only live but there was no damage to his brain, arteries or nerves! NO DAMAGE! Your prayers saved my son's life and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I just wanted to thank you all. Thank you DIS team for providing a beautiful place for us to gather and discuss what we love. A place to support and love each other. You are all my heroes and I love you all. God Bless you all. Bless you!!! I'm so glad to hear that your son will be okay. That is the most important thing. :goodvibes

And, I agree with you. Posters may get into heated discussions, but when things get real we all pull together.

So glad to hear he is doing well and that you found some sollice in your DIS friends .... I too often see the negative side of the internet/social media but stories like this remind me of what an amazing gift it is. As Kathy from the DIS team says, the DIS has made her world both larger and smaller at the same time.

This may not be the original intent of this site, but it is a powerful and emotional by product.

This is testament to what we can do together.

Thankful for the support and the outcome of all of this.

That is so true. .

I have see your posts on Facebook and was so happy and moved by the outcome-thank you so much for posting and I am thrilled your boy is OK

Please know that your fellow KC DISers have been sending many good thoughts your way some of whom you have not met yet but were alerted to the terrible news by a fellow KC DISer (AMusicLifeForMe) that saw it on Facebook (I'm not personally on the DIS Facebook group).

I alerted a couple of our KC DISers to the story that ran on the local news and it's astounding what happened. We all feel so happy to hear the good outcome and we hope for continued improvement and healing.

If you ever feel up to another DIS Meet please join us again on our Meet thread-we have one coming up this weekend but your family and their well-being is what you should focus on the most at this time and of course that next Disney trip ::yes::::yes::. We'll be here should you want to join us again :goodvibes:goodvibes

@KC Mouse - Thank goodness this had a good outcome, I am so happy and relieved for you! And this place, and everybody here, has been there, and done more for me, than I can ever express, even when they didn't even know it. Just having others out there who care, and notice when I'm not here, and value what I have to say, means more than anything in the world most days! It truly has been an integral part of my life for the last several years! :grouphug:

when I saw this item on euronews, i had no idea it was someone from the dis family.
i cannot imagine what your son, you and your family went through.
Thank god for the dedication of his medical staff who were able to save his life.
Wishing Xavier a speedy and complete recovery. pixiedust:
