I was looking at Maleficent previews on youtube and came across a teaser trailer for a live action Cinderella movie Has anyone else seen or heard of the project? The trailer says the movie is supposed to come out in March of 2015. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wppM8ycod0

Do you think Disney made a good choice with this?Let me know!

Haven't seen anything for Cinderella since the initial stuff, but I did see a casting announcement and an address to send resumes and headshots for a live action little mermaid film.

Yes! And if you are a GOT fan, Rob Stark is in it!

I have also seen a gatorade commercial with Bibbity Bobbity Boo as back round music Whaaaat????

Cinderella should be great, lots of great talent involved! I saw the first teaser trailer with Maleficent, but - as is typical with first teasers - it didn't show anything except the glass slipper. We should get a second teaser with a little more info late summer early fall.

ALL Disney movies would be good live action, although some would be difficult to do without a lot of CGI. I look forward to Cinderella, but I voted Tangled. Tangled would be awesome.

I am actually very excited for this movie, I bet the dress transformation scene will be utterly breathtaking.

As most PP's have said yes it is true a live action Cinderella is coming! And I am VERY excited! Cinderella is my ALL time favorite princess! I have every movie that is a Cinderella theme and lots of collectors stuff!

I have mixed feelings about this. I feel like it'll be either really great, or really bad. I saw a picture of the girl they cast for the role on Yahoo, and she didn't look like Cinderella at all. But, I suppose with the right hair and makeup team, they should be able to 'transform' her.

I also heard that in this version, they're making the Ugly Stepsisters beautiful? Hmm. We'll see how that works.

I personally would've preferred a live-action Tangled (that would've been so very cool!), or another movie told from the perspective of the villain like with Maleficent, but oh well. This one could still be really good. :goodvibes

I'm excited but a little nervous. I just hope it's true to the animated Disney movie. Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother. I'm afraid that they'll try to make it like Alice. >.>

Cinderella is my mom's favorite Disney movie AND her birthday is in March! So, yes, I'm a little excited about this. Finding birthday presents for mom next year will be easy! :P

I did see the teaser trailer in the Maleficent film at the theater and obviously it gives nothing to go on. The animated classic is not among my favorites but neither is Sleeping Beauty and I was very impressed with Maleficent despite some plot flaws.

According to what I've read director Mark Romanek had to step down about a year ago because Disney didn't approve of his dark approach to the story. Shame as I'm into darkness and the original Grim tale is in fact quite dark, the step sisters even cut up their feet to fit into the slipper (quite dark AND disgusting).

Cate Blanchett is cast as the stepmother and and Lily James as "Ella". No idea who either of these actresses are. Helena Boham Carter will be portraying the fairy godmother. Quite a whimsical choice for that role.
Kenneth Branagh is now directing.
Huffington Post describes the film as "Fantastically Twisted". Hmm, that's got me interested.

Lily Allen is relatively new and is from Downton Abbey.

One interesting challenge for Disney: I love a lot of the modern twists on fairytales and princesses such as Maleficent, Snow White and the Huntsman and Frozen, BUT Cinderella is a classic old fashioned romance. If they turn it into Cinderella action hero tough girl, it will not go over with traditionalists. If they do the classic story, people will complain that Disney is back to it's old view of women. If they handle it well, keep the story true and walk carefully while modernizing things, they might just pull it off. If they do pull it off, I expect another $750 million blockbuster like Maleficent.

I've done some more research and my very scarce findings indicate that this film will largely be faithful to the original 1697 tale by Charles Purrault "Cendrillon" with three significant differences from Disney's 1950 animated classic:

1.) Cinderella will meet the prince before attending the ball but not realize who he is as he fibs that he's a palace employee. Not to impressed here, this concept already exists in at least a few film adaptions, even the Hilary Duff modern adaption Cinderella Story used it. I know there are also other, more traditional uses but I can't think of them. Not too original.

and

2.) Helena Boham Carter's Fairy Godmother in some manner appears in the guise of a kindly beggar woman. Not too original either, we already have beggar woman guises in both Beauty and the Beast and Snow White. According to my findings Purrault's Fairy godmother was actually closer to the whimsical being from the 1950 animated classic. So this is just Disney being unintelligent.

But the most significant twist is that:
3.) It will be told from the perspective of Kit, Prince Charming who will be played by Richard Madden apparently well known from Game of Thrones (I've not seen it).
