Race Recap: Orlando
How big is our Orlando event? On race day, the Muddy Buddy field is the sixth-largest city in all of Florida! (OK, we made that up – it’s actually Hialeah).
All exaggerations aside, a sold-out field is a near certainty every year in Orlando, especially with our rocking venue, the Disney Wide World of Sports complex. This year, 1700 teams duked it out, while another 400 kids charged through the Columbia Mini Muddy Buddy mud pit. That’s nearly 4,000 competitors, which is actually the population of Newberry, Florida.
The event was won by the standout youngsters Alex Bonus and Mike Lambert, both 20, who captured their division as well as the overall title with a scintillating time of 36:50. It’s pretty rare for two athletes who aren’t even allowed into the beer tent to pull off an overall win, so congrats, Mike and Alex!

Nuptials Breaking Out All Over
Usually, we make a big deal out of life-changing events that happen during a Columbia Muddy Buddy – like folks getting engaged or married. Or having a child (no, that hasn’t happened…yet).
But we saw “Team Gettin' Hitched” – well, getting hitched – at the end of the Orlando event. We didn’t know Doug Davis and Jeri Weigandt were going to tie the knot, but once we got a gander, we dragged the newlyweds up on the podium, which resulted in pandemonium across the throngs of spectators.
Congratulations, Doug and Jeri – any marriage forged in the moldering heat of the Mud Pit is one that is sure to last!
