Really not understanding DCL pricing for Cannes port excursions

Am I missing something? I can't figure out why Choice #3 is so much more expensive than Choice #1 or #2, considering what you get. #3 is literally double #1 but it seems like you get less "stuff." Thoughts?

Different tour providers?

The generic excursion description may not describe all that each excursion actually does.

There may be entrance fees necessary for one and not the other (for those places that you seem to be doing the same thing).

If you know how to read these the reason is obvious, the cheaper tours are drive by walk by and drop off tours. The more expensive tour you actually get a tour inside the Cathedral and the Princes Palace, more expensive then pointing at the Cathedral and saying "there is the Cathedral, Built with the stark white stones from La Turbie in 1875, this Roman-Byzantine-style building houses the burial places of past sovereigns, including Prince Rainier and Princess Grace."

drive by - on the left side of the bus is the famous museum contains works of Picasso, Dali, etc.

walk by - over there is a wonderful building

Drop off - there is the castle be back by 3:30 or the bus leaves without you. By the way next to the bus is a tourist trap that gives us a kickback.

Ok, that makes sense for Monaco/Cannes—I do wish DCL put in more detail on their PA pages. But im still confused as to why “bus only” costs more tha “bus plus tour” in Rome.

Because "bus only" just requires the bus to drive down the street, with minimal description of "that famous building is". "Bus plus tour" actually requires the guide to have more indepth knowledge and keeping an eye on everyone (doesn't lose people on the tour).

Yes, but the "bus only" costs MORE. That it what the OP is finding weird (I must admit that I do too).

Oops, sorry, mis-read the question. Yeah, that doesn't make much sense. Unless there's some sort of fee for driving buses into city center areas (I know that's true in some locations).

Looked at the Rome excursions and it look like the one with a tour is a bargain. Possibly a different provider or the one with tours is planning on making more money based on the way people tip and guiding people into stores with kickbacks.

Perhaps it is a supply and demand thing - maybe they have a whole lot of people who just want transportation to the city and nothing else, and don't bother to read the rest of the descriptions of the PAs, so they just see "Rome on your own" and buy it without looking at anything else??

This discussion reminds me of the time I went on a tour that advertised you would see Hitler's famed Eagles Nest. You did see it from a gift shop parking lot where you got to sit for 20 minutes. The Eagles Nest was about a mile off up on the side of a mountain.

So in tour speak there is a big difference between tour a site and see it.

FWIW we did that first one and although a lot was packed in, we had a wonderful trip. Friends did the second one and raves about time in Eze. I don’t know if this is accurate, but our guide implied that due to bad traffic, our tour that would normally drive the main freeway (and be less scenic) went along the coast which was breathtaking. So maybe something about the third one involves better more scenic driving?

Also when clicking on the link the 3rd one involves a tour inside the palace or something.

We were on the Magic this year. Pointing out the trains are very easy to navigate on your own. If thinking of paying $100 per person for an on your own tour, pick up the Rick Steves Med cruise book and DIY instead. We didn’t just see the coloseum from outside we did the underground tour plus the Vatican Scavi. In Naples in addition to Pompeii when we were done we had pizza at L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele.

it dont think so - we did our own wifi hotspot that trip and I really don't remember any bus inviting us to join it's wifi while on board :)
What wifi hotspot did you use? Trying to figure out cell service or wireless in Europe. Did the hotspot work @ sea?

The middle one that you mentioned says lunch in included. The first sounds like you are on your own for lunch. That could be the difference between these two.
