Spinoff - most cash you ever carried in public

I have a few Canadian $1 and $2 bills somewhere. I'm keeping them as souvenirs but I suppose they're still valid as currency. Would probably have to exchange them at a bank for loonies and toonies.
When my mom passed away I found almost $100 in Canadian $1 and $2 bills. My mom was born and raised in Canada, and went home every few years so always had cash on hand. My cousins in Canada suggest I hand onto them.

I generally have waaay less cash on my way back into Canada then when I’m leaving but never anywhere near exceeding $10,000 at any point? :teeth: I wonder how good an explanation you need for “where it came from” and what they would do if they weren’t satisfied? I mean, clearly they’re looking for criminal activity but I wonder how it works out for a regular person.

Honestly, the majority of my knowledge comes from "Border Patrol" (or whatever that TV show is). So, I'm not really sure. I did look at the form that was linked to on my link and it doesn't ask where it came from - just details on the amount and form.

:scratchin Hmmm, I expected it to look more impressive but then again, spacial relationships are not my strong suit. If I ever get $13,000 in one place I guess I'll have to take it in singles - American singles since we don't have a $1 bill, leaving me with only $10,141 after conversion :(.

I was imagining a more impressive bundle too.

It's still legal tender but if the cashier is under 40 they would probably need to call a manager.

My "stash" of Canadian currency is less than $10. If I had $100, I'd keep a few but exchange the rest. I doubt the bills will ever be worth more than their face value.

They feel they will be collectible. Sort of like U.S. Silver Certificates, or our $2 bills. When is the last time you saw a U.S $2 bill? I tried to get some......as suggested on the Cruise section of DIS for tips....and the teller at the bank told me the U.S. doesn't have $2 bills. The manager corrected her, and said they could order them from the Federal Reserve for me, but I would have to order $1,000 worth. So I just used $1 bills

I have some $2 bills that were taken to the Post Office on the day of issue; we put a stamp on them and had them postmarked. They are in a box in my safe, and are probably still worth $2. But several of us thought it was a fun idea and one person was willing to do the legwork.

26,000 .. paid cash for my used Arcadia...
Had to count it three times by hand before I left the house..
Talk about disgusting! The smell of cash. Ew

Sweating bullets the whole way!!

Do bearer bonds count? There was an armoured car strike and DH (who was a guard at a bank) carried several million dollars worth in the trunk of his car. Then once, I had to take cash to another branch where I work - it was around 100k. I was NOT easy until it was safe in the vault!

 In $20's?!? Why? How big a wad was that? Was it easy to get it into Russia? I know US Customs makes you declare if you're carrying more than $10,000 in currency. Not sure what would happen if you said yes. (Congratulations on the addition to your family! :flower3:)
They only wanted 20s, so we complied. New, not wrinkled or written on, and not torn. It was a LOT. We were aware of the $10,000 rule, so we split it between us. Used money belts. My husband may have had two. We were very relieved every time we offloaded some of that cash.

I used to sometimes drop off the bank deposit for the video store I worked at. I have no idea how much was in the deposit bag though, but I'd imagine quite a bit after a Friday or Saturday night.

Of my own money, maybe around $1,500 or so from when my friend would pay me his share of a trip to Disney.

I was the closing agent at CLT when I worked for American Airlines in 1996. I had to take all the closing money and deposit it at the business center, which was in the airport, but at the other end. Usually we didn't have much cash as everyone pays via credit card and pays for their tickets in advance, so the money I did have was misc cash for upgrades, fare differences, etc., usually under $100. Except one day I had 25 migrant workers come in to buy tickets for one way flights to Mexico. They each paid in cash- $575 per one way ticket. So here I am, 23 years old, by myself at 1:30am making my way to the deposit box with over $14k in my pocket. I had to walk from gate E33 to the business center in terminal b. I swear, it felt like it was 20 miles away!!

I used to work in the booth at a hospital parking garage and we were each responsible for our own deposit. I generally worked 1030am to 6pm or thereabouts and would routinely bring between $5000-$6000 to the cashier each shift though it was up over $8000 a couple times. I just took $5000 (plus a bank draft for another $6000) to buy my new car... plus I now work in a casino so rarely does any amount under $10,000 get me very excited. To the poster above who split the cash: here in Canada if you reside at the same legal address and are traveling together it would still count as over $10,000 even if you were both carrying less but the total went over $10,000... might be different in the US though.

When I was a tour guide at Meramec Caverns, it was strictly a cash business. At the end of the day, someone had to bring the money to the office. The ticket salesman would wrap the cash in a white piece of paper with a rubber band, and then you’d head through the crowd with as much as $15,000 in your hands. Was pretty intimidating for a teenager LOL

As for my own money, had a guy who owed me for some work pay me ~$5,200 in cash which I then needed to get home from out of state. And I took $8,500 in cash out of state to buy a boat once.

When I worked at 7Eleven as a manager, one of my jobs was to take the bank deposit to our local bank. The money would get put in the deposit bag, which had a zipper and a lock on it, and I'd take the locked bag to the bank and wait while they processed the deposit. There was usually a few thousand dollars in the daily deposit, but after a busy weekend it could be as much as ten or $15K. Sometimes I'd just drop it in the night deposit instead of waiting for them to process it.

If you mean personally, I don't remember every carrying more than about $1000 at once.
